A SOCPA (“Serious Organised Crime and Police Act) security boundary is being introduced by the Home Office and Thames Valley Police in a small area of Windsor Great Park close to our Environmental Centre.”

It’s just not a good look at all is it? A place where inner city children get to go and explore nature, being closed by the royals

Good. They are our God given rulers and I'm pleased to see them behaving as such. Maybe they're building somewhere new for Prince Andrew to live?

Magicmushroomsauce · 28/10/2025 12:41

Oh that’s a shame. Particularly with the all the focus on the early years / nature from Kate. It’s not a great look.

Would Anyone pay to go and watch him?

CurlewKate · 28/10/2025 12:44

Do we know why?

The whole insituation is not a great look, but never mind.

CoucouCat · 28/10/2025 12:47

Well the Common People are becoming uppity, who’s know what kind of security threat these children might pose with their butterfly nets and wellies? Sounds dreadfully dangerous to me.

Frankly anything could happen, in a world where someone has the temerity to try to ask King Charles a difficult question in broad daylight!

Talltreesbythelake · 28/10/2025 12:48

They book Jan to October, according to that page, so it is likely that they will have worked something out in time for next spring. Schools really don't take kids on nature trips over the winter months so I am sure plans are being drawn up.

CoucouCat · 28/10/2025 12:48

CurlewKate · 28/10/2025 12:44

Do we know why?

Security risk, innit.

Someone could creep up on them and shout BOO!

3hairspastfreckle · 28/10/2025 12:49

Is this permanent or temporary? The wording makes me think it is a temporary measure while the security boundary is put in place, but I don't know enough about SOCPA to be sure

PersilPower · 28/10/2025 12:50

As things stand, Berks and Bucks wildlife trust only run this until October so activities are on a pause now anyway. Are you local OP? They’ve also closed a car park used by the community. What I would say is give them time to find resolutions as they’ve implied they will.

I can assure you that WGP and the wider crown estate is huge so there’s no shortage of alternative sites. If in 6 months or a year theres no alternative arrangement, then I’d agree with you. Think you’re just jumping the gun at the moment.

And I say that as someone who is drastically losing faith and trust in my fellow Windsor neighbours.

Not sure why.

Off-peak trips in winter are usually much cheaper for schools so are often popular.

Mine did their Y6 residential at PGL in November because it’s cheaper.
And did Birdworld in Feb for same reason (big group discount given).

Seems like BBOWT are missing a trick.

MrsLeonFarrell · 28/10/2025 12:56

So they are pausing activities whilst they work out the implications of the repositoined security cordon and find new areas to work in. I'm not sure what the problem is.

It’s closed because of the security “alert”, which is disgusting.

OP posts:
MrsLeonFarrell · 28/10/2025 13:00

It isn't a security alert. It is the police redrawing the security cordon to take into account the Wales' move to Forest Lodge. The charity are responding appropriately to find a new area to work in. I don't see what the problem is.

You don't see any problem with public facilities being closed for their Royal convenience? Really?
I suppose us peasants should be grateful to them for allowing us to breathe the same air.

You don’t see the issue with little miss “early years” and mr “earth shot” closing green spaces in the city, which are mainly used by schools and young people??

It would be closed temporarily from October regardless. They say they’re looking for a solution. What’s so ‘disgusting’ about that?

No i don't see any problem with a charity needing to move to a different area of a Royal Park at the request of those responsible for security.

Windsor isn't a city

Moving not closing green spaces

No i don't see a problem

I have, I quoted you! What exactly are you finding ‘disgusting’? The fact that BBOWT are closed (as they usually would at this time of year on this site) or the fact that they’ve been asked to move from that specific location? As I said, the park is huge, let’s hope they find them a new location for next season and you’ll be less disgusted OP. Shit happens in life, but most of us just deal with it sensibly.

ThatsNotAKnife · 28/10/2025 13:27

It's being paused. I assume it will re-open in spring once the house move had been completed.
