A SOCPA (“Serious Organised Crime and Police Act) security boundary is being introduced by the Home Office and Thames Valley Police in a small area of Windsor Great Park close to our Environmental Centre.”

It’s just not a good look at all is it? A place where inner city children get to go and explore nature, being closed by the royals

I still think announcing its “great new location” at the same time as announcing the closure of the current one would have looked much better. It’s not very long til spring, after all.

It would but that is a decision that was made by the organisation. Not a lot anyone else can do. Maybe they book well in advance so felt they had to give people information now?

It’s closed because of the security “alert”, which is disgusting.

What are you on about?

I meant the new location should be confirmed already. These things are usually planned well in advance-surely the security around the Wales’ move would have been in hand for ages?

I think i read that they probably planned to move in just before Christmas but the timetable got moved up. Maybe the security arrangements had to be put in place sooner than expected? I agree that it would have been better to announce the closure and new venue at the same time. I still think it's a nothing burger though.

PS Since this audience appears to be rightly worried about loss of green spaces, please can I tout the rescue of the ancient woodland of Hamgreen Wood, between Aylesbury and Bicester, coordinated by the BBOWT? Google "Hamgreen Wood Appeal" - it's 70% the way there. Ancient oaks, rare bats and butterflies, it's an SSSI... and the trust has the opportunity to buy it and protect it forever from redevelopment.

@ThatLadyLadyShesTheMan you seem very eco-minded and public spiritedly worried about green spaces and biodiversity in Berks, Bucks and Oxon - I hope we can count on your support!!

So they are temporarily not taking bookings until they sort out a suitable new area, with the right habitats, traffic details and access arrangements for visiting groups?

Not the most accurate title for a thread OP 😂

SloughResident · 29/10/2025 14:55

Deliberately misleading IMO, as is the OP.
