Wow

I mean she’s been through a lot this year. I can see why she’s on the shortlist

Sunblessed · 09/12/2024 18:31

Has a Royal ever won before?

I think it will be Trump or Elon though

WhitstablePearl · 09/12/2024 18:33

Who is the first guy in the picture series?

Sunblessed · 09/12/2024 18:34

The Queen won in 1952. One of only a very few women interestingly….or sadly should I say

WhitstablePearl · 09/12/2024 18:33

Who is the first guy in the picture series?

The podcast guy Josh Rogan. I think it will be Rogan or Musk.

I don't know how they vote or what the criteria is though..

Yeh Joe might get it

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 09/12/2024 18:51

Oh wow, that’s crazy. But I guess it makes sense after everything happened in the first half of the year and how genuinely happy crowds were to see her in Wimbledon etc. It would be nice if she did win, I see she was a runner up in 2011 as well.

Gorgonemilezola · 09/12/2024 19:29

Rather Catherine than Trump or Musk.

Carouselfish · 09/12/2024 19:35

Well, she was ill. And in the news a lot. Are those the criteria?

ssd · 09/12/2024 19:44

Sounds like a load of shite actually

Sunblessed · 09/12/2024 19:53

I’m guessing it’s for showing dignity and stoicism throughout her illness while the internet/media were on fire with horrific conspiracy theories

Princessfluffy · 09/12/2024 20:05

I think Time favours Meghan over Catherine.

I can't imagine Catherine gives a hoot about Time magazine tbh.

Totally.

Why is she on the shortlist because she had cancer?

Why is she on the shortlist because she had cancer?

“Since 1927, TIME has named a person, group, or concept that had the biggest impact—for good or for ill—on the world over the previous 12 months”

I don't think she is in the same league as any of the previous winners.

AsGoodasIOnceWas · 09/12/2024 22:14

How about these previous winners.
Joseph Stalin (1939
Adolf Hitler (1938)
Vladimir Putin (2007)

namechange1975 · 10/12/2024 02:24

If those are the previous winners then that says it all.

Gorgonemilezola · 10/12/2024 07:07

The list also includes Ghandi, Churchill, QEII, Martin Luther King Jnr, the Apollo 8 astronauts, Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev and Barack Obama. It's about individuals /groups /ideas that have had an impact during the year.

Whatever your thoughts about the Princess of Wales, remembering the feverish speculation, column inches about her illness early in the year, the headlines in newspapers across the world when she confirmed her diagnosis, the media reports when she was back in the public eye and the absolute torrent of hideousness directed at her on social media I'd say the impact was enormous, and enough to suggest some people take a good hard look at themselves.

But what has she done? She may have had cancer or precancel, she took a whole year off, she hasn't helped anybody with cancer because she never told us what kind. I mean, it is nonsense.

Agree completely.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 10/12/2024 07:14

She doesn’t need to let us know what kind of cancer she has. It’s her medical history to tell us or not as she sees fit.

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 10/12/2024 07:18

No she doesn't need to tell us, but equally she should not be nominated for Time person of the year.

HermioneWeasley · 10/12/2024 07:22

The winner should be Gisele Pelicot. Anything else is a travesty

And that’s fine. The question is what impact has she made that would make her Person of the Year.
