First anniversary of late Queen’s death

It’s actually hard to believe that in only a matter of weeks it will be one year since Queen Elizabeth II passed away.

I wonder if the King/Royal Family will publicly acknowledge/mark or do something to pay tribute to the late QEII on September 8th?

Given the fact that King Charles will be marking his first anniversary as monarch on the same day.

The Queen herself always marked her ascension privately given that it was the anniversary of her father's death.

I expect the King will do the same.

I have just seen the platinum jubilee Paddington film online and it actually made me a bit teary. I think because anything queen related just makes me think of my Nan (who passed away In her nineties)

Awh I know what you mean! I was a bit tearful when the Queen died - I really admired her. I never knew her personally but I actually do miss her!

The BBC is going to be fucked when it’s time for all the anniversary programming…

I miss her. I like Charles and I think he wants to do good, but I never knew a time when the Queen wasn't there. She was part of all my Christmasses, she always said the right thing in a crisis and she seemed so calm. She just inspired confidence.
So I'll definitely be sad on the day. 😢

Two words. Huw. Edwards.

I don't think there will be any anniversary programming. The late queen always marked the date of her accession privately. Fortunately for the BBC there aren't any big royal events coming up (that I can think of).

Maireas · 19/07/2023 19:17

I don't understand. Surely there could be a replacement for Huw Edwards? It couldn't be beyond Clive Myrie or Naga Munchetty or someone?

ChessieFL · 19/07/2023 19:29

I think the problem is if they want to show any ‘archive’ footage from last year that might feature Huw. Obviously they can use someone different for anything new.

Maireas · 19/07/2023 19:32

I still don't see why it's a problem.

Have you lived on another planet for weeks? He is the BBC presenter that has been in the news everywhere for messaging and meeting people from dating apps and receiving explicit photos for cash allegedly.

Why so rude?
Of course I know who Huw Edwards is. I don't see the problem if historical footage about the late Queen's death includes him, that is all.

Because he is currently suspended from work at the BBC. They won't want to use footage with him on it.

Maireas · 19/07/2023 20:04

Ok, fine. I take that point. I can see that.
Just really no need to be unpleasant.

Clive Myrie all day on the BBC just talking. Yup - I'm ill that day from work!

Why would Clive Myrie be talking all day?
Do you mean if there was another state funeral?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/07/2023 20:25

Pretty unlikely anyone's going to be talking all day. What are they going to say, 'Queen's been dead a year' on repeat?

That's what the BBC does all day at the slightest hint of anything major. You know this. And that is likely to be the highlight of my year - Clive chatting all day. Yes please - thank you. (Don't be mean Mumsnetters - perhaps your life is more interesting than mine but probably not).

Maireas · 19/07/2023 20:54

Well, let's hope there isn't another state funeral soon 😊 !

Gracewithoutend · 19/07/2023 20:55

I'm going to have to look Clive Myrie up.

JADS · 19/07/2023 21:29

@thelionthewitchtheaudacityofTHISbitch I get you with regards Clive Myrie.

It's still a while away. I imagine it won't be a big thing though. Sad though.

You really think that, if he’s still suspended (or has been sacked by that point), the BBC will want to draw attention to it?

wordler · 19/07/2023 22:53

There’s absolutely loads of raw footage from across the day that doesn’t include any presenters - they’ll be fine for anniversary montages.

What is sad is that the overall archive of the day and the funeral is currently marred by this recent incident. But only for so long.

Probably won’t be more than a trivia question in a hundred years from now though when they do the 100 years since the longest reigning monarch died anniversary.
