First anniversary of late Queen’s death

It’s actually hard to believe that in only a matter of weeks it will be one year since Queen Elizabeth II passed away.

I wonder if the King/Royal Family will publicly acknowledge/mark or do something to pay tribute to the late QEII on September 8th?

I’d watch Clive Myrie all day!

“the Queen is still dead”
”been dead a year and ooh, 5 minutes now”

beeonmybonnett · 19/07/2023 23:19

Oh yes I should have guessed that this was about Huw Edwards.

I can’t see why there would be any need for rolling coverage - we already know she’s deceased. They might cover it on their regular news bulletins, but surely they could just give it to another presenter ? Why would Huw Edwards have anything to do with it?

The family will probably mark it quietly. I remember in the aftermath of Diana's death, people were shouting about having a public remembrance day on the date of her death.
It was pointed out that they don't even have that for deceased monarchs, never mind deceased ex DILs of monarchs!!

Yes I agree. I liked Diana a lot but I think a public day of remembrance would have been OTT

I didn’t mean have him hosting a tribute programme - I meant it would be a problem if they wanted to use archive footage.

Archive footage of what? Him announcing her death?

I don’t understand why we’d even need or want another RF TV programme simply because it is a year since the Queen died, never mind any part which has to show HE

PerfectYear321 · 20/07/2023 00:29

What am I missing? I thought it was accepted that Huw hadn't done anything wrong? Certainly nothing illegal

NewspaperTaxis · 20/07/2023 00:44

That's what an inquiry is about to find out.

It may not be illegal but the allegations seem a somewhat unsavoury to say the least. Perhaps Huw - who had been practising his sombre announcement for many years in anticipation - felt he could cut loose once the monarch had actually popped her clogs.
Maybe the BBC wished they'd gone with the option of David Dimbleby, whose father did the last Coronation in the early 50s. However, Dimbleby was offered a slimmed-down supplementary role with Huw as the main guy, and declined it, not wanting to be notably second best.

Not really wanting to start a fight but I'm almost surprised how much I don't miss the Queen after her passing. It was a shock in a way though - here today, meeting Liz Truss as PM, gone tomorrow.

Exactly…I would not have any problem seeing his coverage of the Queen funeral again 🤷‍♀️

beeonmybonnett · 20/07/2023 01:49

I like Charles but nobody will be as good a monarch as Elizabeth II. I think the person that comes closest to her sort is Princess Anne but not even she could replace the Queen, she was one in a million and a one off.

I don't think it will be a big thing publicly. The royals will mark it quietly.

It will be mentioned on news channels, but not exclusive wall to wall coverage.

Maireas · 20/07/2023 06:48

I agree with you, @Topseyt123 .

I'm going to have to look Clive Myrie up.

How's your research going?

😂😂 Yes, I looked him up and knew who he was when I saw him. But he doesn't really do anything for me, sorry to say.
I like a nice voice but more along the line of Don Warrington. The way he speaks sends shivers through me.

But they'll have a shit ton of footage that won't include Edwards. He wasn't on screen 24/7.

I really don't think this will stress the BBC at all.

Ohpleeeease · 21/07/2023 20:39

Have we all forgotten Kirsty Young?

I also wonder. I can't see any reason why they should or would do anything public, but I doubt if I would find it in bad taste if they did. We'll see. Charles and Camilla will presumably be in Scotland by then. The vicar at Crathie church might say a special prayer or two on the nearest Sunday morning. C. of E. churches generally remember those who have died, in the intercession prayers, so she may well be mentioned around the country that way. 'Our late sovereign lady, Elizabeth'.

This thread has pottered on to considering if the TV will do something. Very probably they will. We didn't have a telly in 1953, when it was the first anniversary of George VI's death, so I've no idea what happened then.

Kirsty Young could definitely do the voice-over to a gentle one-hour programme, but it wouldn't need to be on all the BBC channels at the same time.

All those people filing through Westminster Hall - is that what it's called? And Princess Anne curtseying to her mother's coffin. Memories. The last three things I wrote were not proper sentences. Let's be clear about that.

"My body is weary. I've accepted Boris's resignation. Now I can go."

Rik Mayall showed his willy to Princess Anne.

Why?

tennissquare · 09/08/2023 20:24

I read in the Daily Mail a while ago that the royal family will be in Scotland on 8th Sept and H & M haven't been invited (but they will be in Europe at the Invictus games that start the next day).

BasiliskStare · 10/08/2023 00:51

Just as an aside Matthew Amroliwala Is just fantastic at making bricks without straw . I reckon he could do a decent segment re The Queen. I think he is brilliant

SidekickSylvia · 16/08/2023 08:35

DinosaurQuilt · 09/08/2023 20:09

Because he’s evil. His middle name is Jeremy.

😂, I hadn't seen this before, thank you. (And I was trying to figure what kind of circumstances would result in Rik M flashing Pr. Anne.)
