In Royal marriages the bride seems to pay for the dress, or her family. So Meghan paid for her own wedding dress. Kate's parents paid for her wedding dress. Diana's father paid for her wedding dress. Maybe that explains why Diana's dress was only £9,000, although now she has worn it its valuation has soared. I can't find who paid for Camilla's wedding dress. Is this a common custom in the aristocracy?

It was normal in all families for the brides family to pay for the wedding. Now it's far more common for the bride to pay for her own dress, but plenty of families pay for the dress. You only have to watch 'say us to the dress' to see this.

As she had no family to speak of and they weren't wealthy enough to pay £110K then it's reasonable she paid her own.

Eugenie? Her wedding bill was £2.7 million. Lavish but under 10 per cent of that of H&M which according to a quick google was £32m. W&K wedding, £30m. Ergo the king and the Met police treated both his children equally.

Just thought you would have the info as you allege most of the costs of both weddings was spent on security and I am assuming you didn’t just pluck that info out of thin air. Why would I have the details when I haven’t mentioned anything about the wedding costs 😵‍💫

I googled the cost of the weddings and various articles said the majority of the cost was security. There was no detailed budget though.

The Brides family paying has not been British tradition for years. It died away when brides stopped getting married very young and leaving home to get married.

I'm no, it's still very much a tradition (in some families anyway).

When we got married my in laws kept asking about who was paying for our wedding and when sil gets married, they expect to pay for it. She married many years after us and I know they didn't pay for all of it but they certainly pains about 8 times more than what they gave us and one of the things they did pay for was her dress. It was import to them and 'tradition!'

@babsanderson I read through the articles in your earlier post and they make an assumption from the Palace's carefully worded statement that Meghan paid for her own dress based on the fact that Kate's parents. It does not explicitly say she did. I'm not saying she didn't pay for it, but why did the Palace not state that categorically?

Now they suddenly have always known that the royals pay for their own dresses when they spent years denigrating MM for how expensive she was and costing the taxpayer. @milveycrohn I have linked several times on this thread multiple links showing that Meghan paid for her dress. This is usual, all the Royal brides either pay for their own dress or their family do.

Not sure what you mean as you seem to be conflating a couple of issues. Meghan cost more to dress for her royal duties than any one else. She paid for her own wedding dress. They are completely different things? The wedding coat 32 million. Her dress no matter what it cost was a drop in the ocean of the overall cost

This article estimates the £32 million cost of Harry and Meghan's wedding. £30 million of it is security paid by the taxpayers. £300,000 is the dress paid by Meghan. So an estimated £1.7 million that may or may not be accurate.

literally anyone could have plucked those numbers out of the air. I don’t think you go to a royal wedding and get one glass of champers each for example. Not a very reliable source there.

I thought it was customary? My dad paid for my dress in his insistence. I didn't want him to but he really wanted to, he didn't have any money. It's just a thing that some people want?!

We paid DD’s dress plus the wedding last year. Her fiancé paid for rings and his parents paid for groom and best man’s outfit. Definitely still a tradition where we live.

Not in my family! My parents paid for everything. Although I married an American so his family paid for a big rehearsal dinner the night before.
