So Harry (our gift horse😁), has described the literary classic, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck as ‘short, one hundred and fifty pages of nothing’…

Just musing on how we might we describe his ‘historically important’ publication?

OP posts:

Just read this ~
The Duke of Sussex’s autobiography is the fastest-selling non-fiction book ever, recording figures of 400,000 copies so far across hardback, ebook and audio formats on its first day of publication, its publishers have said.

I mean it's no surprise, people love gossip. Tabloids wouldn't sell if people didn't like gossip, and this a 400 page tabloid piece with a nice price tag.

It will line their coffers for many a year, and so be it. They have to make money at the end of the day 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not something I'd wipe my arse with.

jtaeapa · 10/01/2023 17:19

Will sell family for $20,000,000

I saw it described as the longest drunk text ever sent 🤣

*Just musing on how we might we describe his ‘historically important’ publication?

The Domesday Book is historically important. Magna Carta is historically important. Four hundred pages (four hundred pages??) of ego and anger and rancour filled fiction isn't.

I can't WAIT for the reviews in the eeeeeeeeevil press.

HamHand · 10/01/2023 17:22

I’ve literally just read this bit. He doesn’t say it’s nothing

HamHand · 10/01/2023 17:23

See. Why make this up?

One hundred and fifty pages of nothing
jays · 10/01/2023 17:24

Half way through listening to it on Audible, I think it’s been fantastic so far!

Next page pls?😅I want o read the bit about willy

HamHand · 10/01/2023 17:30

Alas, it’s a moan about how instead of being nomads facing the world together, Willy won’t talk to him at school. Like most big brothers I imagine.

bakalava · 10/01/2023 17:30

At least he recognizes his similarities to Lennie.
I think we all know who Curley's wife would be 😂

I agree - I am not quite half way but so far pleasantly surprised - very different to the tabloid snippets - context is everything!

SequinsandStilettos · 10/01/2023 18:33

OP are you just quoting the Mail?
They may still be quoting from a translation from the Spanish?
A bad translation from the sounds of it.

HamHand · 10/01/2023 17:23

Describing the plot of a novel within your novel feels very “fillery” to me. He had a word count to reach, clearly!

Legrandetraitor · 10/01/2023 18:40

Actually it puts me in mind of writing out full dates where ever remotely possible or relevant in my GSCE coursework
