The royal family

Was there really no one sensible around to advise Harry about the content of this book?

The impudence of his boast about killing 25 Taliban and putting a giant target on his back beggars belief. And that's aside from virginity/circumcision/Charles' teddy revelations. Was there really no one to tell him truthfully he was making a giant mistake. Prince Andrew must be feeling relieved now someone's outdone him in the stupidity stakes. And would Meghan really think it would serve them both to reveal this stuff? Harry's shown himself to be a horrendous mess, way worse than we all thought. If anything comes of this, I hope he gets the help he needs.

His poor dc. I hope, hope, hope he keeps them safe.

I certainly didn’t foresee that I’d start to feel a bit sorry for Meghan for being stuck with him! I really hope someone sensible is looking after him now, he was held fondly in peoples’ minds so recently really.

ThePoshUns · 06/01/2023 23:01

I've been thinking the same as the leaked stories get more bizarre. He's not painting himself in a good light at all. I'm assuming he didn't have any guidance or if he did he wasn't listening.

JustDrama · 06/01/2023 23:03

I think he fucked them all off when he left the RF.

Marcipex · 06/01/2023 23:05

I was amazed that he/she/editors imagined that any good will come out of this.
I am not sure H is very bright but some one should have stopped him.
The army stuff, using a medium; what a sad mess.

Frankly I don’t think the sun shines out of W either.
And Charles is kind of how you’d expect from someone who has been kowtowed to for seventy-something years.
And Kate seems to be wasting away.

CPL593H · 06/01/2023 23:05

I've made some jokes about what we've heard so far but it is gutting really. Those older among us will always remember 12 year old Harry following his mother's coffin and honestly only wanting good things for him. I don't blame Meghan, I feel rather sorry for her because although she is always portrayed so badly, this clearly goes way deeper than any influence she could have had. He is a grown man in need of serious help, IMO.

GyozaGuiting · 06/01/2023 23:06

It’s obvious from this that he doesn’t have many mates anymore. His Military friends would tell him straight it’s a bad idea!

I’m not a fan of Harry but I hope he gets help and I would be very sad if anything happened to him or his kids.

Boulshired · 06/01/2023 23:06

He had a ghost writer, publisher and there had to be lawyers. I don’t think he takes criticism well and even in the interview clips he avoids looking at the opposite views.

Marcipex · 06/01/2023 23:06

@CPL593H yes exactly.

GyozaGuiting · 06/01/2023 23:07

@Marcipex how do you mean re: Kate?

Redblanky · 06/01/2023 23:08

I think the people.adbising him currently are there to show him how to make the most possible money and they're doing well at that.

I am surprised Meghan allowed some of these stories to be included, I didn't think she was as stupid as him, but I she doesn't come out of it well. Maybe it's all about the income for her too.

Marcipex · 06/01/2023 23:10

@GyozaGuiting she has become so thin and often looks very strained. I wonder what really goes on in her household. I bet it isn’t a bed of roses.

F4chrissakes · 06/01/2023 23:11

Slightly off subject, but both H & M have done no end of whinging about false stories invented by the press/planted by the Palace to take attention off other members of the family. What stories were these then?
And on subject......if they have/had advisors, I think they must have ignored them. Whoever would have advised him to so comprehensively trash his family - the family that he wants to reconcile with? And don't get me started on the Taliban stuff.
What a moron.

There was a moment after the end of the procession when 12yo Harry reached for his father's hand. Not unusual for a 12yo in such circumstances, but probably unexpected if everyone was as emotionally repressed and distant as we're supposed to believe.

The ghost writer and publishers are only interested in sales, the juicer the gossip the more sales.

Lawyers are only interested in making sure he doesn't get sued. Becoming a Taliban target isn't really a legal issue, it will never end up in court.

Harry needed someone who was 100% in his court, and able to protect him from himself and only seeing £££ signs.
I do worry that he's going to feel very depressed after this as I don't think it has gone the way he thought it would.

wonderstuff · 06/01/2023 23:18

I think the problem with being super rich and important is you surround yourself with yes people, what possible advantage is there for anyone to point out Harry’s flaws? He’s been told how wonderful he is his whole life, everyone has bent over backwards for him, the exceptions being when the ‘firms’ needs trump his comfort (Diana’s funeral, William being more important etc). It doesn’t take huge imagination to understand why he feels so entitled and hard done by.

Honestly don’t understand why we still have a monarch, it’s a ridiculous state of affairs, to tie our national identity to essentially a random family of rich people. It seems to take a particularly hard toll on siblings, Andrew clearly has issues, Margret was troubled, Edward and George certainly fell out..

Yes, I remember that moment. At the end of the day, they are human beings like the rest of us, even if they live in palaces and publish daft books. They are also a family and for all their strange ways, there is love there and I hope they can find peace again.

shreddies · 06/01/2023 23:27

I remember being horrified watching both boys walking behind the coffin and this was way before I had children of my own. It's terribly sad to see what's become of Harry.

Mistressofnone · 06/01/2023 23:28

Agree he is obsessing over the strangest things and the Taliban claim was very ill thought out. And they are supposedly doing all this complaining to raise money for security for their family! The Taliban have even released a statement today in response.

The upset over having a smaller bedroom in one of the family castles was ridiculous. Most younger siblings get the box room - that's life!

Also he says he was expected by the public to follow his mothers coffin. From what I recall no one expected that! In fact I remember everyone being shocked to see the boys in the procession at all.

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 06/01/2023 23:33

What shocks me is this book seems primarily targeted on William and also Kate. Previously it was his father he seemed to be really bitter about. I guess as his father is now King, William is the fall guy. It’s really tragic to see how he’s fallen apart, become twisted and bitter. He’s so unrecognisable from the person he was before Meghan

Georgeskitchen · 06/01/2023 23:33

Yes there are people who could have advised him against this. The very people who he is trashing now, his family

PrinceofWails · 06/01/2023 23:34

This is what strikes me as the saddest thing of all the sad revelations so far - was there no trusted friend to read through the proofs, and say, Mate, this just isn't going to come across the way you think it will? It doesn't look like it. Eugenie could surely have steered him away from some of the worst family pettiness.

And that's without the Taliban sections.

Marcipex · 06/01/2023 23:36

I was so sorry for both boys walking behind Diana’s coffin. I think it was wicked to make them do that.
Both of them have suffered childhood trauma and I think it drives a lot of their misjudgements.
We used to say that at least they had each other. Sad.

Bratnews · 06/01/2023 23:39

There is complete silence from the ghost writer, the writer has actually liked a tweet referencing the book as ‘it’s all me me me’. Suggestion is that he was fired early on and can’t say anything because of an NDA. Writing was then over to Harry & Meghan. Can’t think of anything else that makes sense.

FictionalCharacter · 06/01/2023 23:40

If someone had advised him not to say these things, would he have listened? He and his wife are obsessed with “telling the world their truth”. He has no idea how awful it sounds to the public, he’s just convinced we’ll all be on his side because he’s suffered all these terrible injustices.
