@BoarOnTheFloor I'll have a tenner on A . I doubt it'll be the Von Trapps

@Vapeyvapevape

He must have sold it to someone he knows, there hasn't been time for the estate agent to go round and take the photos. Grin
I thought it had been on the market for some time.
Vapeyvapevape · 11/01/2022 00:33

I think PA paid the £6 million he owed in November and so was then able to put it on the market.

Roussette · 11/01/2022 07:12

A very scathing report from the DT on PA's finances. And it's written by Camilla Tominey Shock Shock

It is behind a paywall but I can c&p.

One interest fact... he pays no rent at all on Royal Lodge Shock

I’m wondering just how you remove a monarchy from a country? The more I read the more distasteful they become.
Clearly they think they’re beyond the law so just what has to happen to demolish the lot, short of a military coup?

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 11/01/2022 07:14

As for Sarah Ferguson, she’d be a bankrupt nobody in 5 minutes without Andrew, it’s obvious why she’s clinging onto him.

Roussette · 11/01/2022 07:22

YanTan

Oh yes. She made some sort of living in the US for years, then that dwindled. So suddenly she's back in the UK living with him and calling him an honourable man, a giant of a man and all that guff.

Nothing to do with £££££, no siree....

I honestly think, without him, and without being able to live in splendor at Royal Lodge (financed by us), she would probably be bankrupt. She's been close to it more than once.

You'll notnget a military coup - who would lead it, and his on earth would you get the Army Navy and Airforce to cooperate enough for a leader to emerge?

Not to mention that's they'd never hang on to power for long enough to prevent Restoration II as soon as the military dictatorship is in turn overthrown

The only real way is by referendum. And that would only happen if there were a clear level of support. Just like the republicans thought they had in Australia - but still lost the vote. It's inconceivable in UK At present - and of course as they'd still be monarchs of all the realms and dominions, then the Crown itself would continue and continue to own stuff

About a third of countries are monarchies, including all of Scandinavia. I think reform and slimming down is considerably more achievable. And of course Prince Charles already stands for that, and might put it in tomactiin.

Referendum. But we are not there yet, as too many people believe the fairy tale. Queen's death, having to deal with the reality of Charles as king or another military crisis may provide a window.
WinnieTheW0rm · 11/01/2022 07:38

Camilla Tominey is riddled with inaccuracies - she even got basic balcony protocol wrong in November (I posted about that at the time) and other comments on that thread include "CamillaT is awful she really is... she crows about any bad news on Meghan especially if she breaks a story or non story"

Are there any reliable commentators who have written on PA finances of late?

Roussette · 11/01/2022 07:42

Oh yes Winnie. It doesn't escape me that I malign CT continually for her disgusting approach to MM. And here I am quoting her in a DT piece.
I just find it ironic to think that the worm has turned here (sorry about the pun on your name!) and maybe even CT has criticism of the RF, unheard of before.

I take it the royal family don't sit down at the kitchen table with their bank statements and work out what bills they have to pay this month, they must have accountants who do this . So how was the payment on the Swiss chalet missed ? The backhanders he gets surely must have to be accounted for . Why are his accountants not doing their job?

We could ask our nearest neighbours in France for some tips ?

In reality the best way would be for the Royals themselves to do it. Her Madge shuffles off this mortal coil. The newly crowned King Charles issues a statement saying as far as he's concerned that's it for the monarchy and the Windsors, and abdicates with King William making it clear he would do the same if they tried to crown him. That would leave the UK with the choice of waiting for George, Harry as regent, or working out what sort of republic we're going to be.

We don't yet know how many commonwealth countries may decide to pass on King Charles anway.

sashh · 11/01/2022 10:07

If PA does lose his titles do the 'girls' who are actually grown up adult women lose theirs?

I think they were supposed to when they got married, but then didn't.

I don't have much sympathy for them, they can't help who their father is but they don't have to publicly support him or give statements.

AllThePogs · 11/01/2022 10:09

I don't care if they keep titles or not, except for Andrew. But I do not want them to get money or to be excluded from laws.

No.

They don't have actual titles, just the royal style of HRH, which they hold because they are grandchildren in the male line of a reigning monarch. Not dependent on what their father did or failed to do and what titles and styles he holds and uses.

They won't inherit the dukedom of York anyhow, as its male line only.

I think Sweden and Netherlands have the right idea. A fairly down to earth (in comparison), nuclear ish family to cut ribbons and jolly people up. What we have is ridiculous, aside from PA and his vile behaviour there's that huge pile (will look it up forget the name), with about 40 grace and favour apartments filled with dames, ladies and distance cousins who pay no rent and rely on handouts from the queen. She could have slimmed it down years ago but turned a blind eye, just as she is with PA now.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 11/01/2022 10:31

Charles doesn't strike me as the abdicating type, somehow.

That's an interesting article.

The cars are 'leased on favourable terms' but it's still going to be a monstrous monthly bill. And respraying to your taste (can you even do that to a leased motor given the fuss they make over a scratch or dent on return?) isn't cheap either.

AFAIK he doesn't pay rent on Royal Lodge because the £7m upgrades he apparently paid for then entitled him to buy the 75 year lease for £1m - the equivalent of £250 a week rent.

SerendipityJane · 11/01/2022 10:34

I think the US and France have the best idea.

Or the Pre-Caesar Romans or Athenians (apart from the "male only" bit, of course).

A Monarchy is like a solar powered whoopee cushion. Fun for visitors, but you don't need one.

Roussette · 11/01/2022 10:41

Yes Malariahilaria and then there's the lady of the bedchamber, and the under lady of the bedchamber, groom of the chamber, groom of the robes, Master of the jewels, and all that nonsense. Apparently there's a vacancy for vase polisher at the moment Shock and there's 44 Butlers in the royal household. Plus 27 royal residences in the UK too.

Honestly, if Charles doesn't do a major slimming down exercise, I think there'll be anarchy!
