if he were to travel to us to give evidence, would he be arrested if he were found guilty?

prh47bridge · 12/01/2022 21:43

@PlanktonsComputerWife

Also interesting about GM, *@prh47bridge*. The newspaper reports made a retrial sound like a dead cert, but it sounds less slamdunk than that.

Did your American colleague have any opinion as to the likelihood of a mistrial's being declared?

None that he was willing to share, I'm afraid.
Redshoeblueshoe · 12/01/2022 21:46

Thank you phr47bridge. That's very interesting

ChristmasPlanning · 12/01/2022 22:00

So glad the judge made that decision. Hopefully the beginning of truth and justice

@toddybell

I reckon Andrew will more likely end his own life than face any of the three options available to him. He is a dead man walking.
Someone's life is ending PA or VG. Hopefully and I pray not the latter. She deserves to be heard.

“The duke has strenuously and repeatedly asserted his innocence and he may relish the opportunity to set out his recollections and views.

From the Sky article Grin

Though I hope she doesn’t, I don’t blame VG if she goes for a big payoff.

toddybell · 12/01/2022 22:40

His head is so far up his own arse (evidenced by many incidents where he's felt he's FAR above anyone else in the world)- there is no way, he's going to taint that inflated ego by going for any of the three options.

If he doesn't do it himself, I'm sure there'll be someone in the RF willing to bump him off to save face and the 'reputation of the family'. And, IF it does happen, then everyone will be blamed for putting him under so much stress that he had no option but to take such a drastic step. VG will be victim blamed and gaslit like hell to feed this narrative (mind gone into overdrive but it's all so predictable).

toddybell · 12/01/2022 22:42

@derxa- I'm not being facetious. I'm just thinking what Andrew would do knowing what we know of him. Apologies if it offends.

DreamTheMoors · 12/01/2022 22:44

@Buddywoo

I imagine some pressure will be put on the judge through 'channels' such as HM is very elderly and it is her platinum jubilee this year, do you want that to be spoiled with all the stress. We will see.
The judge is American and impartial, @Buddywoo. This is far away from home for PA. No influence for him in American courts, which is why the case is proceeding.
DreamTheMoors · 12/01/2022 22:49

@BoarOnTheFloor

I read somewhere - my apologies, can’t remember where - that VG is past any settlement.
She wants her day in court.

AllThePogs · 12/01/2022 22:53

If Andrew testifies, although he will be coached heavily, I can't see him coming across well.
Virginia's lawyers have asked for access to his medical records to examine his claim he couldn't sweat.

Odious as Andrew is I don't want him to take his life. He has two daughters who love him,

Hmm
Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/01/2022 23:07

I agree that the trial will probably lead to damaging revelations

That's why I can't begin to imagine him being tried, or even being questioned under oath beforehand - but presumably, even if a trial goes ahead without him, revelations may still happen if VG hassn't accepted a payoff by then

As PPs have said, let's just hope she has good security ...

BIWI · 12/01/2022 23:07

Who is paying VG's legal bills, by the way? Do we know?

TheHairyDinosaur · 12/01/2022 23:11

You mean the USA, Britain's largest global political allied country and vice versa. Deals may well be struck here that will never come to light. Who knows, they may have already?

They could proceed to trial and find him not guilty and shut it down once and for all.

I'd like to have faith that justice would prevail, but corruption, dirty deals and secret hand shakes have been in place since the dawn of time in politics.

@Vapeyvapevape

Rude and unnecessary.

This isn’t about Prince Charles or Princess Anne.

Default judgement isn't palatable, but isn't that hard to face.

Because he won't have been tried and ordered to pay. He won't have admitted anything, or offered a settlement.

He may or may not pay up (I think it would be better if he did, rather than exploring the third condition as set out by prh47)

And then goes of to live in a kind or retirement, out of public view as far as possible (except for the occasional family event)

NiceShrubbery · 13/01/2022 07:16

All PA has to do is publicly apologise for what he did, and admit he was wrong. That's what VG is really doing this for.

He could've settled this years ago but his ego won't let him. Even now his reputation is ruined, it still won't let him. He is just an unbelievably stupid man.

8 months to trial is a long time. Very concerning for VG's safety. I hope she has security she can trust.

TheWomandestroyed · 13/01/2022 07:19

Yes I have wondered that, it must be costing a lot of money.
LakieLady · 13/01/2022 07:20

@Malariahilaria

If they cancel the main channels for 2 weeks, who cares? It's not like the 70s when that's all we had. Everyone will simply pop over to netflix, amazon prime etc. The only losers are the main channels and the ad revenue which has sunk over the past 10 years or so. Media consumption isn't the homogenous mass timed thing it was.

My MIL (75- worships the queen, hates Andrew) with all her queen plates and tea towels will wallow in it no doubt but most people have more pressing concerns like the 50% increase in fuel bills

My MIL(83, but very intelligent and still with all her marbles in place) loves them all, to the point where she refuses to believe that Andrew has, or even may have, done anything wrong.

I had to explain to her that trafficked women and girls can't freely give consent, but are under duress. She then decided that, if anything happened, PA can't have known VG was trafficked, and is therefore blameless.

And PC is a saintly figure who will be a wonderful king, and it doesn't matter that he has tried to influence governments, because he is wise and probably has more of an idea about how things should be done than all the politicians put together.

She's a Labour voter, too. I'm properly baffled by it.
