With due apologies for the Mail link - go on, you know you want to Grin - it seems Sarah Duchess of York's done a Mills and Boon novel: www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9852775/Sarah-Ferguson-Duchess-York-releases-debut-Mills-Boon-novel.html

Knowing how much MN posters enjoy a good cerebral read I couldn't resist posting it ...

and oh dear she calls herself the duchess of york~~~!!!!!!!

ohthestruggles · 03/08/2021 09:56

Did anyone see her interview on Lorraine just there? An absolute car crash, talking about how great Prince Andrew is with his grandchild 🤦🏼‍♀️

EdithWeston · 03/08/2021 10:05

She's written scores of books - the only ones which ever really attracted attention was the autobiog, and the very first children's book.

SueSaid · 03/08/2021 11:10

I know it's awful isn't it. I loathe people trading on their Royal connections unless they are doing royal duties obviously. Have they no pride or dignity?!
Samcro · 03/08/2021 11:15

she was on the one show yesterday, was really polite and interested in the other guests, thought she came across as nice.

FullMoonInsomnia · 03/08/2021 11:17

Apparently she’s written 70 books according to something I read! What were they? I’ve heard about Budge the helicopter but not aware of any others.
She talks grandly about her ‘work’. I’m not sure what that is. Using her title is just ridiculous. She is t married to Andrew and she isn’t a working member of the RF.

SueSaid · 03/08/2021 11:28

'Using her title is just ridiculous. She is t married to Andrew and she isn’t a working member of the RF.'

Duchess. It is so utterly cringeworthy. What is it with these people that they hang on to pompous sounding titles. We all know who she is. I'd have some respect for these people who don't do any royal duties if they ditched the titles. It's 2021 come on be modern, be feminists! Be defined by what you can do not by silly, show offy titles.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/08/2021 11:38

It seems some, at least, do it because the titles are bankable
Never ask me why, but there are those who enjoy having titled names on their bookshelves regardless of the merit of the books - perhaps they feel it suggests these are the sort of folk they associate with?

At least it's not 'Dining with the Duchess' or 'Dieting with the Duchess'... two of her other delights!

And people complain about M&H? Maybe in 25 years time complain about them putting it on a book....which is how long SF has been using the Duchess title....

SquirryTheSquirrel · 03/08/2021 12:08

Good for her. I wish her well with it. At least she isn't sponging off the taxpayer.

Iamthewombat · 03/08/2021 12:11

Even before Inclicked the link, I thought, I bet the heroine has red hair and is misunderstood.

Yes to both.

In case we missed the connection between the passionate, wonderful heroine and, er, Fergie there is also this:

Speaking on The One Show last night, the Duchess explained: 'My middle name is Margaret and there are certain parallels between my life and this extraordinary, resilient, courageous, strong, red-headed Lady Margaret.

Iamthewombat · 03/08/2021 12:12

At least it's not 'Dining with the Duchess' or 'Dieting with the Duchess'... two of her other delights

NO! I refuse to believe that she has written books with those titles. I refuse! Surely nobody could be so crass?

cheezy · 03/08/2021 12:15

I want to read it Grin

AtlasPine · 03/08/2021 12:18

I don’t agree with her misusing her title but every women has a right to feel proud of their work.

moonbedazzled · 03/08/2021 12:22

I'd love to be a duchess or a countess. And I'd hang onto my title too. However, I wouldn't slag off the family that I got my title from. If I felt I needed to do that, I guess I'd let my title go. But Fergie doesn't slag off the family, so I don't blame her for keeping it.

Iamthewombat · 03/08/2021 12:52

@AtlasPine

Even if it is a bit rubbish?

I have no objections to Fergie being proud of her writing ‘work’ (or the ghost writer’s efforts!), provided that she doesn’t expect me to agree!

Roussette · 03/08/2021 12:58

@Iamthewombat

'Fraid so!

I quite agree! It just sounds a bit desperate to hang on to a title after you've left the institution it came from. I agree that the reason is to try and squeeze more money from it. She doesn't seem to have moved on from her brief time of glory in the 80's and she's a bit embarrassing now with a delusion of grandeur and romanticism. What I do admire her for is raising her daughters well and maintaining a close family unit after divorce, which I imagine is very difficult. I also admire that she has the hide of a rhino and clearly can't give a stuff what people think of her. That or the delusion of amazingness gives her an invisibility cloak of confidence!Grin
Maireas · 03/08/2021 14:31

@Eaumyword - I was going to make those points exactly. I do think she's clinging on to the past and there are delusions of grandeur. Imagine still hanging on to your title nearly 30 years after the divorce. Imagine still claiming Andrew is an honourable man.
Anyway, it's "co-written" so we don't know how much is hers.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/08/2021 15:46

At least she isn't sponging off the taxpayer

Are we quite sure about that? After all it seems that Andrew does quite well out of what remains of his position, and she does still live with him ...

OP posts:
Maireas · 03/08/2021 15:59

Indeed. She's living at Royal Lodge. We're subbing her somehow.

moonbedazzled · 03/08/2021 16:17

I don't care. I wanna be a duchess. Or a countess.

Maggiesfarm · 03/08/2021 16:32

@ohthestruggles

I don't see what's wrong with her saying that if it's true.
ohthestruggles · 03/08/2021 16:56

@Maggiesfarm there are a few issues with them both.

  1. She uses her title to flog her book
  2. She speaks an absolute load of irrelevant rubbish (the interview was particularly bad)
  3. She isn't married to him anymore, she was there to talk about her book I don't know why they even asked her about him! Confused He is an absolute disgrace (doesn't interview particularly well either, if anyone can remember the tragic BBC fiasco) and I'm sure the truth will out when Ghislaine Maxwell comes to trial..

I feel like they love to quiz Fergie because she can't control what comes out of her mouth.

Maggiesfarm · 03/08/2021 17:01

Oh fair enough, I didn't see the interview but saying her ex husband is a good grandfather doesn't seem terribly controversial.
