With due apologies for the Mail link - go on, you know you want to Grin - it seems Sarah Duchess of York's done a Mills and Boon novel: www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9852775/Sarah-Ferguson-Duchess-York-releases-debut-Mills-Boon-novel.html

Knowing how much MN posters enjoy a good cerebral read I couldn't resist posting it ...

Virginia Giuffre said she first met him at Ghislane Maxwell's house in London, which is where that photo is set. The age of consent here is 16 and she was seventeen. Then she met him somewhere else in the USA at a party later on, where the age of consent was 18. Who knows what actually happened?

There is NO age of consent for a trafficked woman, it is rape.

FullMoonInsomnia · 05/08/2021 07:30

Yes I agree.

Roussette · 05/08/2021 07:35

I agree Spindle.

Of all the royal marriages, Sarah and Andrew seemed far more suited than most. They were/are two of a kind. God knows why they couldn't make it work.

She has always said it was the demands of palace life, the hostility of the royal household, the courtiers beat her down.

Roussette · 05/08/2021 07:37

shhh
I agree.
Some of those girls were as young as 14 when they were procured and groomed.

SueSaid · 05/08/2021 08:07

'There is NO age of consent for a trafficked woman, it is rape.'

Whether anyone was trafficked in this case is alleged. Can we at least wait for evidence, proof and a court case instead of the constant trial by social media crap.

As PA is not going to cooperate there never will be a trial.

Roussette · 05/08/2021 08:20

I think Jeffrey Epstein's being sentenced with sex trafficking minors for sex points to something?

I doubt he would have committed suicide (or been murdered) if there was nothing in it.

I feel for those denied justice. And the sentene that there is NO age of consent for a trafficked woman, it is rape, is quite correct.

SpindleWhorl · 05/08/2021 08:43

She has always said it was the demands of palace life, the hostility of the royal household, the courtiers beat her down.

It seems like every royal wife of senior rank has had the same treatment.

I get that there has to be a quite stultifying protocol at the palace and regarding royal duties - but there's been talk for a long time of this horrible, visceral hostility and back-stabbing. It sounds like the palace institution is poisonous, and it sounds like a culture consciously created and maintained by some incredibly snobbish individuals who know precisely what they're doing.

And what a misogynistic record the palace institution has. Diana, divorced, dead. Sarah, divorced, exiled. Meghan, married, fucked off back to the US.

Sophie Wessex has lived with relative freedom as a junior royal (a mere countess), and I reckon she'd be best staying that way, focusing on her charities, till all the grotesquely snobbish and machiavellian courtiers have popped their clogs. Or has Charles been training up a new batch?

I know it's crackers to speculate, but I find it intriguing!

EdithWeston · 05/08/2021 08:49

Sophie Wessex had a really hard time if it, as her half-in-half-out failed spectacularly when she was set up and exposed by the tabloids. It's taken two decades of diligently carrying out the duller duties for her rehabilitation.

He told them he consented to the interview they just had to come to England

I know that this isn’t what you are saying, but I find it funny that whenever the culture at the palace is discussed and criticised, someone always finds a way to blame it on some faceless posh bloke or blokes, pulling the strings in the background, whilst maintaining that QE2 is a wonderful woman who isn’t involved in any of it. No, it’s that mysterious palace establishment who are to blame!

As if! Who has the most to gain from clinging to traditions in a changing world? Surely not, er, the current monarch and her heirs?

Roussette · 05/08/2021 09:01

Spindle

Absolutely true. Something, somewhere is not right. I hope there's an overhaul before say George gets married.

SpindleWhorl · 05/08/2021 09:10

@Iamthewombat, I'm open to the idea that QE2 is in on the hostility and condones it either explicitly or indirectly through inaction. And I was pretty pissed off about the Scottish lobbying stuff. She must have approved a lot of political meddling in her time. These revelations have caused a lot of damage to the monarchy, especially among the young I would imagine?

I really think Charles is going to inherit a turkey.

Viviennemary · 05/08/2021 09:29

Where were these girl's parents when all this was going on. They came from good homes. What did the parents think they were up to. Maybe the legislation around prostitution needs to be tightened up. Is it the same as age for consent. Some folk think all prostitution is rape.

Roussette · 05/08/2021 09:41

Gosh.

No. That's the first time I've heard that these girls 'come from good homes'????

There was a network of recruiters, like Maxwell, who would hang around high schools and drive around trailer parks targeting vulnerable financially desperate girls, with promises of furthering their careers. They were coerced. These girls, some as young as 14, meant nothing to them.

Samcro · 05/08/2021 09:45

wow talk about victim blaming.

Ghislaine is that you? Unbelievable.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/08/2021 10:24

Why did (Srah) agree to such a shit divorce settlement?

Given that it all finally blew up after the "toe sucking" pictures - and I'd just love to have been a fly on the wall at Balmoral then - I'm not sure she'd have had much choice. After all the Windsors, while profligate with others' money, are notoriously tight with their own, and she was hardly in a strong position to argue

I don't see what 'underage sex' has to do with the Duchess of York writing a book.

The title of this thread was about Royals writing books, so I thought I would add that I have recently bought the book, ‘The White Ship’, by Charles Spencer. OK, not fiction, but historical, about the ship that sank, eventually heralding the anarchy between Stephen and Matilda.
I saw this published last year, but did not buy it then as I consider Charles Spencer to be a pompous oaf, after apparently describing his first wife Victoria Lockwood, as ‘Thick and Thin’. She suffered from anorexia, etc
Anyway, to my surprise, it is written very well, and I am really enjoying reading this!.
So much, so, that I googled the author and book, in case it was actually another Charles Spencer!.
So, not exactly royalty, though closely connected, and did not use his title ‘Earl Spencer’, just his name.
Other royals, I believe Princess Michael of Kent has also written some books on European Royalty. In her case she used her title, but I have not read any of them.

sashh · 06/08/2021 10:19

There have been many allegations of plagiarism in her books and at least one payment out of court.
