Is Britain warming up to the idea of Charles as King?

Things he used to be mocked for, his so-called sensitivity, ie caring about the environment, farming methods etc... /compare his interests to Prince Andrew's and it suddenly seems like he mightn't be so bad. If the monarchy is going to exist at all that is.

I think people have warmed to him. He clearly had a fucked up childhood and was denied marrying the woman he loved. Since he's married Camilla he really hasn't put a foot wrong. I think how the Crown portrays the affair and Diana could dredge up a lot of ill feeling for him though.

Never been keen on him really. He’s spoilt and petulant.
I think William will be a much better King. He has more idea of real life.

It doesn't matter really because, unless he dies before the Queen or abdicates when she dies, he IS going to be King.

I suppose I have warmed to the idea though. When Princess Diana died I was appalled by how he'd treated her in going back to Camilla during his marriage. However, Camilla doesn't seem to have put a foot wrong since and I have warned to the idea of her being the wife of the King.

Charles is right in matters to do with the climate and farming methods and, he has backed off expressing his opinions to parliament. He wouldn't do a bad job. Let's face it, no-one will live up to the Queen's shining example.

Camilla lives separately. That is the recipe for a great relationship.

Charles will not be revered as King same as his mother. We have moved on really.

Charles says he cares about the environment but his actions show he doesn’t. The gas guzzling cars, a plane full of journalists follow him on trips and he flies around the world as he sees fit. He should just cut it out if he wants to make a difference. Now he’ll be going to Canada for grand parenting duties!

I'm reserving judgment until it actually happens. The current crisis in the Monarchy and his personal involvement in sorting it out will be a good test actually.

I would have said the reverse, actually. The older he gets, the more ridiculous people find it that here's an adult man who's spent his entire life essentially sitting in an expensively-appointed waiting room waiting for a figurehead role he can only occupy after his mother dies. The queen attracts a certain amount of affection for her air of headscarfed sour fortitude sort of Ena Sharples without the hairnet and milk stout and the younger generation provoke interest for being tabloid fodder/wearing frocks etc..

Charles doesn't fit into either category. He's the kind of upper-crust male bore that sidles up beside you at some golf club/Rotarian do and bangs on about his begonias and the iniquities of modern architecture without ever opening his back teeth when he speaks.

The best you can say for him is that he's not Prince Andrew.

The day that Charlie and his antecendents and descendents ever have to get up early and commute into hell every day, is the day I will have respect for them.

What career did Charles have apart from a stint in the Forces AFAIR?

He is 70 odd now and never really worked like the rest of us.

I have nothing against Charles individually, though - he's no worse than the rest of the Royals - same goes for Camilla.

I still don't get how he can be head of the Church of England. Maybe the queen is trying to outlive Tom Parker Bowles.

Oh dear, Charles is a caricature of himself now. A 70 year old man who never had to work for a living. A young bride, for the succession babies, and now a wife who lives apart from him most of the time.

I suppose they move in different ways to the rest of us because they can. I think they are mostly toxic and entitled and slightly dotty!

The time is coming for them to be challenged on this. And it won't be long now. Charlie's reign will not engender anything like the respect of his mother. Just my view.

I don't see how William has more of an idea about normal life than his dad.

He has had security everywhere he has been since he was born, he went to Eton and has grown up with unbelievable wealth and privilege.

Ok, he flew a helicopter for a wee while but I bet he got a foot in the door because of his royal status.

I am a monarchist so therefore I fully welcome and expect Prince Charles to be king one day.
Hopefully not for a long time, we will miss the present monarch once she’s gone.

His generation of Royals were not expected to get jobs or do anything other than being Royal. At least he developed an interest in organic farming (and makes lovely biscuits!) Most of the younger generation seem to be not much different from other rich, posh youngsters.

Bucking the trend but my admiration for PC has grown.My DH has been involved with the Princes Trust and it's given a lot of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds focus and a serious leg up.Plus he takes his commitments to the many tenant farmers,employees etc from the Duchy very seriously.And he was bang on the money about a lot of environmental issues years ago.Doesn't have to be the big stuff always.Hedgerows etc for wildlife.I can't even get too worked up about his affair with Camilla after all these years. She obviously is who he should have married to start with.So after an incredibly long wait he deserves to be king.

Working for a living is a good thing. Cutting a ribbon and taking tea with an organisation doesn't cut it, dull as it is.

I bet William is spitting feathers that his brother gets to live an independent life while he cannot.

Who the heck would want to live in a goldfish bowl like the RF. No wonder his brother and family have run a mile. I do not blame them.

Prince's Trust and Invictus are great. Do they pay anything towards it? Maybe they do.

But it is not real work either IMV.

The majority of people have never had an involvement in either Trust I think. Although I am sure I will soon be told off!
