Just looking for a hand hold really. I can't stop crying, I'm so worried I'm going to lose her.

Thats awful but cats are usually pretty resiliant. Hope she gets well soon.

DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 10:09

Thank you x She's not eating and only drinking a tiny bit. Been to the vets and might have to go back tomorrow unless she improves.

Ooh I hope that your cat gets better. As pp said they are pretty resilient.

We had a cat who stopped eating after a bowel blockage (which was cleared). He needed diazepam to calm down and then got depressed and stopped eating. We spent a couple of days hand feeding him little tasty morsels. He refused all food for 2 days. But then he suddenly started eating again and went on to make a full recovery. He was only 2.

So there is hope. Whatever happens, lots of cuddles are needed

Keep us posted and I'm sending healing cat squashes over the internet x

DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 10:42

Thank you, that's really good to hear. She's got a temperature and been checked out so hoping she can rest and fight the bug and then get her appetite back. So sad seeing her so poorly. She's hiding away and refusing food. Keeping the house calm and regularly offering food. She is an older cat, but was perfectly healthy otherwise so that's in her favour. Watching and waiting hopefully for things to improve.

She has moved to sleep in four different places today, whereas the last two days she's just hidden and slept in one spot. I don't know if this is good or not, but I'd like to think so. She's still not eating and has only had a tiny bit to drink.

OP posts:
DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 20:54

She's lost so much weight. I don't think she can turn it around. Anyone around for a handhold please?

What has the vet said, OP, and do you have a follow up appointment scheduled? It’s such a worry when animals are poorly. 🤍

DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 21:23

Thank you for replying. I'm going to call them first thing. They said to keep offering food little and often, and hopefully she would feel better. They gave her an injection Friday, and checked her over but all they could tell was she had a high temperature. I don't know if they will will suggest keeping her in and a drip maybe? I don't know. The vet didn't seem that worried on Friday and said if she hadn't eaten anything by Monday to come back, or sooner if any other symptoms appeared or she seemed worse. I'm on my own looking after her and I feel so stressed and upset. I just want her to have a big drink. She doesn't want any cuddles. She just wants to be left alone. I've tried all sorts of food, nothing has tempted her at all.

Hand hold here, @DogBagKite. It's so difficult isn't it? Partly because you can't just ask them what's wrong.

Cat soups can be tempting, to help get some fluids in.

It’s good the vet didn’t seem worried. Do you have any stinky fish (mackerel in a tin, for example) you could try if you haven’t already? Or some poached chicken?

Our boy’s a bit off his food today (but otherwise totally fine) after having his worming tablet yesterday, and he was going nuts for yesterday’s leftover roast chicken which DP was making risotto with and happily wolfed down some of that. (yesterday I caught him with his head in the roasting tray but we’re all friends here.)

DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 21:43

Thank you xx I've tried wet food, dry food, special gastro wet food, lickelicks, cat soup, treats, egg, and even a spot of cheese and cream and butter. She doesn't normally have dairy obviously but tries to steal it when I have it, so thought it might tempt her. I'm desperate to get her to have something. She's not drinking anything at all. Just stubbornly refusing absolutely everything. She wouldn't normally let me near her mouth in a million years to try this normally, but I think I could use a syringe to give her water if the vet recommends that. I don't know if that's a thing. I'll do anything they suggest at this point.

Thank you Judy xx Hope your boy's back to himself soon. He sounds lovely x

We need a photo of her so we can channel her get well vibes!

cars are really resultant! They're better at 'lying low' than us humans!!

have you tried actual fish (not cat food) ?

hopefulky you'll both get some sleep, (she might eat some food through the night if you leave it down for her) & hopefully she'll be a little better in the morning.

id be phoning the vets as soon as they open & taking her in, they can give her some hydrating fluid & run some tests xx

Sky1977 · 18/01/2026 22:00

Sending her lots of healing love 💕🙏💫✨, it’s so difficult when your pet is poorly and you feel helpless , i hope she picks up soon 🙏💫xxxx

DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 22:01

Thank you. I'm going to call them first thing in the morning. I haven't tried real fish, she hasn't really gone for it before, she loves cheap cat food the best! But anything is worth a try x

OP posts:
smooththecat · 18/01/2026 22:15

Sending a big hug. This happened to me with my boy. Can you afford further treatment and investigations? You will want full bloods and possibly ultrasound. You can ask for referral to a hospital. She may need tube feeding and will likely need rehydration. It’s so, so hard. I’ve been there.

DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 22:19

I don't have much money at all unfortunately. I'll just have to see what they say. I'm dreading it xx

OP posts:
DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 22:20

I've tried to post a photo but I don't think it's worked. She's beautiful.

OP posts:
smooththecat · 18/01/2026 22:33

We love them so much. If you have a needleless syringe it is safe to syringe small amounts of water into her mouth. Let it in from the side of the mouth rather than squirting it down the throat. Plain boiled chicken or white fish do work for lots of cats. Sending a big hug. x

CarrieMoonbeams · 18/01/2026 22:42

I'm so sorry @DogBagKite , they are such a worry when they're out of sorts aren't they?

We don't have cats any more but I remember that helpless feeling only too well 😔. I really hope she's feeling better soon xx

DogBagKite · 18/01/2026 22:47

Thank you all xx I'm a complete mess 😔 I'll let you know what the vet says tomorrow.

Awww hope she’s ok. Sending good vibes 🤞

ThelmaDinkley · 18/01/2026 23:58

Hope she picks up really soon. Sending you both a hug

Catcuddles2 · 19/01/2026 00:10

Sending hugs. Mine too is refusing food and water. We go back tomorrow if no change, possibly bloods and a drip. It’s so so stressful. i know why he’s got to this point but we won’t even let me syringe food or meds,

have you tried a syringe, with soups ? Don’t force feed though
