Our feline overlords have so many current strings to their joint and several bows.

Auditioning for Series One of The Prison Cat, forming a band, and continuing to plot against their enemies by means of their Ouija Boards - will they even have time to sleep now?

I have already got sick of Boys from the Black Stuff.

I've just finished Wimsey (Strong Poison) and will carry on to the Wilvercombe one. What's it called again?

Have His Carcase. That’s really bad about your ceiling, I hope they get it fixed soon.

Pudmyboy · 09/12/2025 22:09

Hope you get your roof sorted quickly Broon, a stitch in time and all that. Is the ceiling bulging? Or, can you tell the HA that the ceiling is bulging?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/12/2025 00:20

I'll ring them first thing in the morning.
It's looking a bit worrying.

Meant to quote this.
It isn't bulging but it's looking a lot worse.
I'll ring them overnight if it bulges.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne if it starts to bulge for goodness sake poke a small hole in it then at least you can control how the water gets out. Otherwise the whole lot might come down. Is it papered?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/12/2025 08:32

Hope your ceiling has survived the night @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne. 🤞

We were out seeing friends last night. Apparently their cat Molly NEVER sits on anybody's lap other than theirs...

Yes, they should have taken her to A and E, after having completed an accident form.

Or maybe started a thread on here

("Should we go to A and E - head wound advice needed")

That Mr Rochester couldn’t understand why Jane was depressed, after he’d made her listen to his guests talking very disparagingly about governesses & watch him flirting with Blanche Ingram, shows exactly how stupid and self-obsessed he is.

Impressive claws - she looks very pleased with herself

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne agree with @Breadcat24 Breadcat24 poke a small hole if it bulges, Did this when we had the same problem saved a hell of a mess.

Yes, it's papered.
It doesn't look any worse this morning and it certainly isn't bulging - just dripping a very little, but not much now.

I've let the HA know and they're coming.

Yes, he was not a nice man.

I'd have laughed at his many post-fire disabilities, not have agreed to marry him FFS.

He recognised his obligations to Adele (poor kid) but was incredibly cold to her.

Well he wasn't really sure she was his, plus, he does seem to have been a cold fish in general. But yes he got away with a lot because a )he was a man b) he was rich and had a life of privilege.

YelramBob · 10/12/2025 20:41

Kalispera (evening all!)

Recovering from 'Storm Byron' here in Cyprus, it's been a rough few days. Kitties traumatised by RAIN outside and temperatures plummeting to below 20c, thankfully none drowned or froze to death 😹

Re-re-reading Jane Eyre now thanks to this thread!
Just got to the sad part about Helen Burns.😪

RumNotRun · 10/12/2025 21:55

Apparently I no longer have a bed. He's not even pretending that he sleeps on my bed cause of the heated blanket.

Except now I’ve just read the bit where St John Rivers was trying to mould Jane into his helpmeet & I was thinking ‘You bastard. At least Rochester sees & loves her as she is.’

Helen deserved an alternate universe where she lived & became a great philosopher or reformer.

Pianoaholic · 10/12/2025 23:03

Yes, she was too good for the real world.
She accepted the injustices towards her but couldn't see wrong in anyone even while they found fault with her.
Jane wouldn't accept injustices given to herself, but that allowed her to move on and make her own way in life.

JoanOgden · 11/12/2025 08:11

Helen is a (no doubt slightly idealised) portrait of Charlotte's older sister Maria, who was apparently exceptionally talented but died at their horrible boarding school. I always wonder how the Brontes would have turned out if Maria and the second sister, Elizabeth, had lived.
