Introducing Marvin the Mau

He's a 2 and 1/2 year old Arabian Mau who arrived yesterday. So far he's a typical Mau - athletic, friendly and intelligent but mercifully quite quiet. Taking the excellent advice here he spent last night in the kitchen ( eventually - he escaped once) but as of now is snoozing on our bed.

He’s lovely.

TheJustJoker · 02/10/2025 16:42

So beautiful 😻

Puppylucky · 02/10/2025 21:35

Quick update - the lad is athletic, playful and still prone to over excitement. He accidentally slashed my nose open the other night by using my face as a spring board! He is incredibly affectionate though and in his own way very obedient - if he's kicked out of the bedroom at 3am for fooling around he doesn't protest the decision but takes himself off on patrol. And his leapy zoomies are a thing to behold. Now I know what Beechers Brook must feel like l!

Ooh those murder mittens! What a gorgeous boy, with a personality to match!
Edited to add: thanks for the update, please carry on so we can all enjoy this little snapshot of your life together 😻

Pianoaholic · 04/10/2025 08:45

What a beautiful cat! Love his paws (and claws!) 😻

Puppylucky · 04/10/2025 08:53

One last photo so you can see what I mean by athletic! He's about 6ft off the ground at this point 🫣

🎼🎶'I'm the king of the castle and you're the dirty rascal...'🎶

(To be fair all cats think this!)

Puppylucky · 04/10/2025 11:05

He always looks faintly worried as he's a lot better at vaulting up than he is at getting down! We spend quite a lot of time fishing him off things.

My girl used to get up on top of open doors when she was young! She's a fairly small cat.

I have two Arabian Maus, my boy was a street cat until 6 months in Dubai. He's incredibly chatty, has taken over entire neighborhood and has grown into a very affectionate boy.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/10/2025 14:47

Hello Marvin! What a gorgeous boy, I'm really happy for you @Puppylucky. Seeing your pictures makes me realise how lucky I am Charlie likes his paws on the ground!

Puppylucky · 04/10/2025 17:40

Thank you so much @PinkSparklyPussyCat - I have never forgotten your kindness. I have to admit having a healthy little boy is a revelation. No hand feeding and medication regimes and the only watching him like a hawk we do is to avoid him landing on our heads from a great height! We will never forget Elton but Marvin has been a balm to the soul - if not to my poor hands! He's looking slightly cross eyed here but it's excitement.

Brief Marvin update. He's still an absolute terror for boinging around at a great height, but is slowly learning to keep his murder mitts to himself . He has his first visit to the vet later this week. They are a lovely independent practice who tried so hard to help Elton (and his neurotic owners), so I'm really looking forward to showing off an active healthy boy - hope he behaves himself!

Hello Marvin - I am the proud servant of Byron the Mau. Byron as he is mad, bad and dangerous to know.

Byron behaves excellently at the vets for about 5 minutes. And then it is over. Also by excellently I mean pings all round the place like he owns it. He will tolerate a brief examination if he can have his face in a bowl of Dreamies but nobody yet has been brave enough to stick a thermometer up his bum.

They tried wrapping him in a very small towel once and he basically laughed in their faces.

Once the five minutes is up he's untouchable and it's best we go home before anyone is hurt.

Puppylucky · 13/10/2025 20:06

Hello @AnnaMagnani I recognise your name as a fellow Mau servant! Yes I suspect that Marv will be confident to the point of arrogance and it's likely to end quite rapidly in tears! He is quite happy to flash his bum hole (see earlier photographic evidence) but having anything near it will almost certainly be another story. We are hoping they can clip his claws but that might be wishful thinking 🤔

We are now 4 years with Byron and he is a soppy idiot now. However we still can't pick him up or touch most of his body. We can brush him thanks to tips on a Jackson Galaxy video which is a blessing as the boy really really loves to vomit up a fur ball.

shellyleppard · 13/10/2025 20:11

He's absolutely gorgeous 🥰. Very long cat 😺

Puppylucky · 13/10/2025 20:42

Thank you @shellyleppard yes he is unfeasibly long and surprisingly solid. He looks slender but when he smashes into my shins at the end of a zoomy it bloody hurts!

OP posts:
shellyleppard · 13/10/2025 21:15

@Puppylucky you might need some shin pads.....😺🥰❤️

AnnaMagnani · 13/10/2025 21:24

Oh yes Byron is a solid boy. He's a bit chubby now after a couple of years of house arrest but he's still ripped underneath.

Pudmyboy · 13/10/2025 22:05

He looks very absorbed by your (his?) laptop! What was happening?

Deargodletitgo · 13/10/2025 22:12

My vet called my boy Mau a "well muscled cat". He's long, lean, tail like a whip. He used to bolt food when I first got him, survival instinct from growing up on the streets. Steals food from cupboards, including the neighbors who dote on him.
