Help me name these little squishes

All being well, these little cuties will be coming to live with us in 3 weeks. The tabby is a girl, who my eldest wants to call Mildred (she’s a big fan of the Worst Witch). The black and white is a boy, and we must rescue him from the fate of being named Loveheart Glitter by the youngest. Any suggestions that I can put to her as alternatives?

Also open to names other than Mildred, although I’m quite taken with it!

You have to stick with Loveheart Glitter! We foolishly allowed DS to name our two cats when he was obsessed with Dr Who. Try calling out Sycorax and Cyberman in the garden 😆

😂😂😂

Chemenger · 11/08/2025 17:33

What about Gilderoy (Lockhart)?

BondAway25 · 11/08/2025 17:34

Chemenger · 11/08/2025 16:47

George. But probably everyone is too young to recognise why.

Not all of us 😂😂

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 11/08/2025 17:35

Mildred and Mitchell?

I'm afraid I am too young to have any first hand knowledge of Mildred and George. It's not one of the racist or sexist 70s sitcoms, is it? In my experience you can never be too careful with 70s TV.

Well, it is 'of its time' but having grown up with
it I love it & just take it for what it is 🙅🏻‍♀️

it was the first stage show I ever saw too! (Well proper one anyway, my very first was Sooty, your two new babies aren't the right colour for sooty & sweep though)

would your DC be ok with the cats name being Mildred but being called Milly day to day?

Mildred & Michael - Milly & Mike day to day...

birdglasspen · 11/08/2025 17:41

Let the kids name them. I’ve got a don don, panther and tiger. 🤭

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 11/08/2025 17:44

Well you could have given them both first middle and last names.🤔
Mildred Yootha Glitter and George Loveheart Glitter. 😺

BusyFrizzyLizzie · 11/08/2025 17:44

I just checked back with the little one and - after insisting on Loveheart Glitter long before the kitties were even a twinkle in their mother’s eye - she now want to call him Ginger. I think I’m being trolled by a 3 year old…

Loveheart Glitter is perfect! In 10 years time you'd be glad if you went with your children’s choices, the naming will be part of the story of their childhoods.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 11/08/2025 17:47

George and Mildred was quite funny back in the day. Married couple, she quite bossy, he a little mousey. But nice chemistry, and they always made up and cutely kissed.

spiderlight · 11/08/2025 17:49

Please please PLEASE call him Loveheart Glitter, just to make the day of every vet who has to call him in from the waiting room. He could just be Glitter for short.

Sleepthief · 11/08/2025 17:50

My vote goes to Loveheart Glitter too! A fabulous and hilarious name that is the perfect foil (pun intended) for Mildred 🤩 Why be dull?

Walker1178 · 11/08/2025 17:55

Sometimes you just have to own it - My DB let his DC name their cat and had to call Captain Fluffystuff in from the front doorstep for many long years! Milly and Lovey sound like a nice little pair

CrispieCake · 11/08/2025 17:57

Lovejoy for the boy? Channels the spirit of Loveheart Glitter.

I’m dying. I’m having visions of him driving round the country looking for antiques… 🤣🤣

Betheadore · 11/08/2025 21:00

Loveheart Ginger then 😂

sesquipedalian · 11/08/2025 21:10

Loveheart Glitter - Love for short.

I'm another one come on to say Mike & Milly.

whatisforteamum · 11/08/2025 21:57

Flapjack and Oreo

Radiowaawaa · 11/08/2025 22:00

It’s only fair that they get to choose a name each.

My dc named our cats Dorothy and captain underpants when were little.

arlequin · 11/08/2025 22:02

Awww def Loveheart Glitter.

AltitudeCheck · 11/08/2025 22:14

Loveheart Glitter could become 'LG' for short which could also stand for Little Guy or become 'Elgie'

I like anything beginning with M for a tabby because of the marking so Mildred is good... although if LG ended up being Arthur I'd be tempted to go for Arthur & Martha!

Breadcat24 · 11/08/2025 22:44

My gran was a Mildred and her husband Edgar if that helps. but I would feel a fool calling for an Edgar at night!
At least Mildred you can shorten to be more kitteny
How about Manfred for the chap?
