Taking on three rescue cats!

FoxBaseBeta · 21/02/2025 19:10

Other than being around friends and family's cats, we've never actually owned our own and are taking on three rescues, are we mad?

We were originally looking for a pair but wanted older than kittens and cats that are ok with kids/like affection and cuddles which can be tricky with rescues. Anyway we spotted some that sounded perfect in every way but are a trio! There was suggestion on the website they could possibly be split into a pair and a single if they struggled to re-home them but there was no way we were going to do that to them, so here we are!

All advice gratefully received 😄😺😺😺

I'm disappointed that there is no cat tax paid as yet! We need a pic.

And a trio of older cats sounds utterly perfect. You know they're bonded. They will have their personalities sorted so you know what you're getting. And well, it's three cats. Sounds perfect to me.

Just take all three, you can’t split them up! Cats are so easy especially when you have more than 1, they will play with each other and it’s company when you go out. They will settle much more quickly too!

please don’t split them up, if they are all bonded it’ll break the one who is left alones heart 😭

EmpressaurusKitty · 21/02/2025 19:14

Fantastic!!!

tillytoodles1 · 21/02/2025 19:16

I took two from a rescue and they were fine.

Definitely taking all 3! Also I think DC would kick me out and take the cats if I suggested splitting them 🤣

Go for it. But I do have six. The only problem I have is that my lap isn’t big enough for more than two at anyone time.

Cat tax will be paid once we get them 😀 One is having dental treatment next week so it will be another week or so before we can bring them home. At least we have time to prepare I guess!

Oo have they got names or are you choosing new?

Pigeonqueen · 21/02/2025 19:21

I am excited for you ❤️ I recently adopted a cat from a rescue and I can totally see how people could love mutiple cats all over the place! Lucky you. If they’re already bonded it should be fine. Just make sure you have a minimum of one little tray per cat and lots of hiding spaces for them so they can have their own space.

How old are they?

You can never have too many cardboard boxes.

The rescue think they're around 2 to 3, they're officially strays as they were found underweight on an allotment and not chipped. They're so friendly and happy to be stroked and groomed, so presumably were socialised as kittens. We don't know how they ended up stray though 😟

I have 3 brothers who were dropped off on the terrace by their mum who have loved here ever since. Here they are on my carrot bed, needless to say last year I didn't get any carrots.

Do share photos of their adventures!

Omg there the cutest 😍

user1471548941 · 21/02/2025 19:38

OMG!

They are GORGEOUS!!!

They look very cheeky and curious, I bet you're going to have tonnes of fun with them!!!!

I had a snoozy ginger and then added a part Bengal to the family because I thought he needed a friend....

I will warn you that two cats chasing each other round the house sounds like a herd of elephants, particularly at 4am!

They also make a very good chorus when hungry!

Enjoy!

PandoraSox · 21/02/2025 19:38

Oh, they are so gorgeous! You are lovely @FoxBaseBeta for taking them all, especially as black/black and white cats are so often overlooked.

FoxBaseBeta · 21/02/2025 19:43

They are gorgeous aren't they 😍 I honestly don't understand why black and black and white are the most overlooked

Do it! We went looking for 1 and ended up with a bonded pair. Best thing we ever did. Would I have taken 3 looking back. Yes I think we would.

EmpressaurusKitty · 21/02/2025 19:53

Oh, they’re fabulous.

I fostered a bonded pair of girls & it was wonderful to watch them together. You’re going to have an amazing time with three of them.
