'Done' cat is a humper...

We got him when he was 8 weeks old and got him 'done' at 6 months as recommended.
He's a house cat (for now) so hasn't been around many other cats as he came from a very small litter.
I'm surprised by how much he humps my arm! It seems to be every day for around 2 weeks a month. His little penis pops out too.

He's the only cat I've ever had who has been humpy. Will he settle down do you think?
He's not aggressive with it and it's not obsessive. We do plan on letting him out when it gets a bit warmer and brighter (he's all black) so he can burn off some of his energy (and hopefully urges?) I just feel really guilty at the moment that he's seeking satisfaction is my arm.

Ps I did buy him a toy the same sort of size in the hopes he would prefer that, but alas, it's my arm he wants!

One of mine is the same, thankfully not me but he starts with the biscuits then gets so happy and carried away 🫣🙈

CatamaranViper · 15/02/2025 21:31

Ah see he doesn't even do biscuits! He's definitely not a lap cat, doesn't especially like being cuddled either which is why I can always tell what he wants when he starts coming over and nuzzling

I don't have an answer, but came to say, our now departed 10 year old beloved rescue became an arm humper, despite being 'done', after several months of being on chemo. At the time I thought it was a side effect of the treatment, but interested to see the experience of others on this thread, as maybe that wasn't it if the same is happening with your boy, maybe he was just randy all along haha

NotMyFinestMoment · 15/02/2025 21:44

No advice here other than I experienced the same thing with my tuxedo cat but he did eventually grow out of it. Your cat is gorgeous by the way. ❤

TomatoSandwiches · 15/02/2025 21:48

He is a handsome arm humper though 😂
Just stop him grabbing your arm and give him pets to distract and he'll likely grow out of it eventually.
We have a brother and sister pair, both done at 5 months and still occasionally catch him assuming the position but not much else, nearly 2yrs old and the frequency has reduced over the last 6 months.

welshwanderwoman · 15/02/2025 22:11

Firstly - what a gorgeous boy!

Secondly - having owned other male cats who never did such a thing, I was pretty horrified when we adopted our ginger boy (then five years old) and discovered he was a humper. He’s only ever done it to me, and only ever when other people are watching which makes it extra weird! Vet’s advice was to stop him each and every time and firmly say no. He’s now nearly eight and it’s definitely happening less often - now perhaps a monthly event when it used to be multiple times a day. So I agree with others above who say their cats grew out of it …

RandomMess · 15/02/2025 22:57

Mine is just 2 and he isn't a lap cat. He'll go to a chair or sofa or DDs bed and there will be a throw or her dressing gown or her huge teddy, start off with biscuits and then end up very very happy Blush

Allergictoironing · 16/02/2025 08:37

There's a few around who do this - there was a thread just a few weeks ago about it. I think the only thing you can do is try to distract him onto a particular throw or large toy (on poster on here had a cat with his favorite "wanky blanky") rather than your arm. That way if he does tend to have a "happy ending" at least you can chuck it in the washing machine!

Surely if he's been 'done' that cant happen???

Thank you all. Ah I didn't see the other thread, I'll search for it now.

The thing is, I feel bad stopping him! I wouldn't like to be stopped when I was in the mood, but equally I don't hump people's arms in the middle of gladiators. That's why I bought him a toy so hopefully he'd use that, but sadly not :(!

One of ours is a wanker on his wanky blanket (but not a bumper, thankfully). He’s 11 with no signs of stopping…

RandomMess · 16/02/2025 08:54

Mine doesn't ejaculate thankfully!

Yes it can, but he'll be shooting blanks. The liquid is produced by the prostate not the testicles, and over time as testosterone levels fall most cats stop getting that urge (though not all).

GerundTheBehemoth · 16/02/2025 09:04

My friend's female (and spayed) cat is an enthusiastic blanket-humper. Complete with gripping a bit of it in her teeth and wearing a disturbing stare.

RentalWoesNotFun · 16/02/2025 09:57

Human males get vasectomies and they still want to hump...

I think it must feel the same to animals. If it feels good do it.

Not ideal it's your arm though. Grin

Sunflowersinthewind · 16/02/2025 10:11

Mine does this to my arm every night. I call it bitey time. Also not a lap cat. I feel like I'm in a toxic relationship.

I have been 'spayed' and it doesn't stop me 😂 Neither of my cats show that urge. They'd each produced kittens before being rescued and spayed/castrated so perhaps the experience of parenting kittens put them off sex.

Vasectomy doesn't involve removal of testicles though... Neutering does!

I hope you mean neutered rather than spayed? Spayed is what's done to females, neutering to males....

No, I have been 'spayed' (in other words, I had a bilateral oophorectomy alongside my hysterectomy). Spaying is what a feline oophorectomy is called.

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 16/02/2025 13:49

Mine used to hump absolutely anything. His favourite blanket, my dressing gown, my fleecy onesie, any other fleecy blankets I had. I could be sat watching tv and all then all of a sudden I'd feel a sharp bite on my arm followed by him humping my arm. I used to pop him down onto the floor if he did that. If he was humping his blanket on the bed. He'd do it whilst staring at me

Yeah but most human males who get neutered have had some sexual experiences previously (I presume!). Poor kitty has never. I've read that sometimes they still hump out of habit rather than urge, but mine can't be doing that as he's never been able to adopt the habit.

I did not know he could still leak. Clearly my knowledge of neutering is lacking. I now have the urge to wash my dressing gown.

He's been fairly amorous again today.

Start off with biscuits? What
does this mean?

Upsidedownimturningit · 16/02/2025 16:06

I have never had this but current female cat often sticks her bottom in the air and her tail is up so I wonder if that’s sexual frustration. She is ‘done’ too.
