Cat has just come home with a collar on!

My cat has just come in with a collar on. She doesn't have a collar. I feel like someone is trying to claim her. What are we meant to do to signal that she has a home?

Be really careful if you’re putting a collar on her - there are loads of injuries caused by cats getting their collars caught, even ones that say they’re quick release.

I think a big message on the side of the coat is a good idea.

My cat will not keep collars on - the only ones that ever worked were the unsafe type which do not break away. So, for most of her life she has been collarless. Because of that, when I have moved I have gone to all the neighbours, showed them her picture and asked them to let me know if she was coming to their houses or gardens and it was unwelcome. What I have discovered is that she has a huge circle of friends she visits, and that there are a great number of people who love having visits from someone elses cat.

I'd wrap a message over the collar - something they will notice. Explain that she is chipped and you are the legal owner and to please refrain from feeding and keeping her in or putting things on her.
