Just bought a brand new sofa and had it assembled last night

Kicking myself for changing the colour last minute, I originally wanted cream but had my mind up after hearing someone’s opinion

I have two tabby cats with lots of white fur
What do I do?

Should I buy new covers and sell this one if I manage to clean it?

Or should I buy a small vaccum and clean it every 5 minutes??

The cat overlords obviously like the sofa. I would get a large cream throw and not worry too much.

Ohmycarrots · 21/09/2024 10:20

Oh what a beautiful cat! I agree with PP. Grab a throw or cover. I had one when my darling girl was with us - I'd then give it a good shake off outside every now and then.

BingyBongyBoo · 21/09/2024 10:21

I’ve got a dark blue velvet sofa in one room, I use a shark handheld on it quickly while the coffee machine is warming up in the morning. The biggest difference you can make is brushing your cat IME.

Spenditlikebeckham · 21/09/2024 10:21

Accept your fate. Several throws... After washing a few mins in a drier will get the last hairs off.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 21/09/2024 10:23

Get a blanket or cover for the sofa today and buy a rubber brush from Hone Bargains/B&M/Wilko.

Yes - rubber brush. Those are annoyingly satisfying.

pictoosh · 21/09/2024 10:28

Oh no! We are laughing at your predicament so sorry.

We have a light coloured rug in the sitting room and a black fluffy cat...it's a nightmare.

Edingril · 21/09/2024 10:31

But has your cat given you permission to touch their sofa?

HappyDane · 21/09/2024 10:32

Yep, large cream throw and don't worry about it too much.

Please forgive my ignorance but the brush is for the cats or the sofa?🀐

One of them is very annoyed at me tbh but the other likes sharing providing he gets plenty of back massages

I hope you also stand there with snacks on a tray for them to select from and a hand held fan?

BlueRidgeMountain · 21/09/2024 10:38

Never listen to other people’s opinion unless they have ever had to pick furniture colours to match their cat!!

Sofa 🀣 although sometimes I wish I could just cut out the middle man and use it straight on the cat

Calliopespa · 21/09/2024 10:41

My grandparent’s cat knew to only sit on her blanket on the sofa. She was very cute and would wait looking up at the sofa if someone had removed it. It didn’t take long to train her; they just picked her up and out her on it every time.

TheShellBeach · 21/09/2024 10:42

You just roll the sticky paper over your sofa and it picks up the cat hairs.

I use mine every day, after the cat has gone out. It takes five bits of sticky paper to get it all off.

bitesthedust · 21/09/2024 10:46

TheShellBeach · 21/09/2024 10:41

I have the same problem. This is what you need.

Yep, I have one but it seems like I will need 10+ rollers a day!

Someone suggested Wilko , I still can't believe it went bust! The best shop for so many things! Nothing quite fills the gap.
You can buy rubber brushes online sometimes called stair brushes, which stick the hair off the sofa really well cheap and cheerful but effective

Or this style , cheaper and more eco than sticky rollers (although you can buy reusable ones of those that you rinse)
Or if you have washing up gloves they work a treat, on sofa (our old cat loved been stroked by the person cleaning the sofa wearing washing up gloves too!)

But then your cat would just lay on it's back and put it's dark hairs on your cream sofa.

Reality of life with cats. Cats and nice furnishings are mutually exclusive unless you want to waste your life endlessly cleaning. They say cats are clean animals. This is because they deposit all their hair and general grubbiness elsewhere.

Assuming that you already have a brush for the cats?

Spenditlikebeckham · 21/09/2024 12:17

As a dc my df had matching sofa +carpets. Thought it pretty dull tbh. Only as a Grown Up I clicked it all matched his Red Setter ddog. Made so much sense!!

K0OLA1D · 21/09/2024 12:18

I've ordered a velvet emerald green one... its coming in August. What have I done 😩

DeathpunchDan · 21/09/2024 12:27

Rubber brushes are a godsend for pet hair and have found it better than the sticky rollers. I also have a rubber broom which is fantastic on carpet.
