Hello! Just wondering if anyone has bought this cat flap (detects prey) from indiegogo?

We have a nearly 1 yr old kitten who is a prolific killer and I'm far more squeamish than I though I'd be, and am finding myself dreading coming home/getting up in the morning in case she's brought in another dead (or increasingly alive!) mouse. I'd happily buy one of these if available in the shops but I'm slightly dubious that it won't work if you can only buy from indiegogo at the moment.

I'd you do have one, does it work?!

Thank you! Cat tax included 😀

No idea, sorry, but your cat is gorgeous!

shellyleppard · 11/09/2024 15:44

Sorry was looking at your beautiful 😺 🤣😺

Marinel · 11/09/2024 17:16

I had never heard of it and it sounds really unlikely, I can't see how it would work. But when I googled I found this, and you can't argue with the videos...

https://www.onlycat.com/reviews/

It's very expensive though.

KittyQuestions34 · 11/09/2024 19:12

Haha ah thank you! Yes she is a bit gorgeous but a little ferocious killer!

It uses a camera and AI to recognise if the cat has something in its mouth, and will only unlock if clear. All the reviews and videos on their website look very positive, but how do you know they're all real and not fake?!?!

I just wish it was mass produced and I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I've spent all afternoon waiting for a 'present' so I know it would really put my mind at ease.

But yes. So. Much. Money. But worth it for peace of mind?

The videos do look convincing, but they could be filming the cats trying to get through a manually locked flap. You could spend the £££, be lulled into a false sense of security, and find a mouse running around the kitchen....

Get MN to edit your title and you might get some more responses OP - someone on here posted a photo from theirs the other day which would have had me handing over my credit card in my cats' younger days when I found presents all over the house!l 🤮

But they don't hunt as much now so am trying to be sensible. Looks very effective from what I've seen but obviously haven't used it!

Ooh how do I do that?!

@KittyQuestions34 good question, I've never done it 😆 I think if you report your thread (first post maybe?) and ask they can correct it :)

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/09/2024 22:30

I really hope it works, the people who invented it have put masses of effort into it and deserve it to be successful.

TheSpottedZebra · 16/09/2024 22:37

I'm sure you've thought of it, but keeping her in at night would reduce the amount of hunting quite a bit.

Yes, she stays in 7.30-7am but her prime hunting time seems to be around 2/3pm! She brought in a beautiful massive dragon fly today, felt bad she'd killed it Sad

Currently hiding in bedroom as cat just brought in a mouse.
Wonder why I don't just deal with it rather that putting myself through the trauma of not knowing what will happen tomorow.

imaginationhasfailedme · 02/10/2024 14:49

I've ordered one, delivery likely to be December. I've ordered through Indiegogo before and it's been fine.
You get added to their FB group where earlier buyers are posting their successes and comments etc.
Looks like it works really well. A couple of cats have figured out if they leave the prey in the tunnel, they can then reach outside and drag it in. But mine aren't that smart. Just sick of them bringing things in all night

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 02/10/2024 15:33

This looks amazing would love to hear from anyone who has got one
i have a sureflap microchip duel scan which is great although the latest update ruined the app coz its now not accurate in telling me which cats are in or out, annoying coz it was perfectly good before the update!
it biggest flaw thou is you can only set one individual curfew for all cats. I would love to be able to keep my kitten in at night but let the others out and it looks like the onlycats can do this which would be brilliant for my needs.

That's useful to know. We currently have the bog standard duel scan (no app) but when replacement time comes I need one that allows multiple schedules (one cat is allowed in/out at all times as she doesn't hunt and pees on the carpet if she can't get out, but the (no longer) kittens are restricted to daytime only as they're stupid and will get run over).

I also keep eyeing up the OnlyCat one but it's pricey. It does look good on the ads though.

KittyQuestions34 · 03/11/2024 20:24

I've ordered an only cat! Delivery not til January but will update then!

I have one and it’s amazing and I definitely recommend it! It definitely works and the videos are not made up. I was one of the first backers (paid about two years ago!) and got mine in June. Here’s one of our video from this evening. The cat did dump the mouse on the camera so we had to go and fish it out and put it in the bin.

Oh cool! So glad to hear it's working and is amazing! I have now taken to manually locking her out and then I only let her back in if I can see her mouth is empty...right PITA!

My only worry is she'll get so confused about sometimes being let in and sometimes not - hopefully she'll quickly work out it's whether she has a critter or not!!

I think ours are bringing less mice now though don’t think they have quite worked it out. It does however stop us having bits of dead mice, birds etc everywhere or even worse the live ones running round.

Crazymadchickenlady · 03/11/2024 21:04

And you get cute little thumbnails of their faces and videos
of them going in and out
