Cat burglar!

My cat brought me a present home. I saw a long black thing out of the corner of my eye, and thought it was a snake - but it was a man's watch, with a black strap. We then found another one, on the stairs!

They are now back with their rightful owners, up the lane, but I had a thought. He couldn't have got them both in his mouth at once, so he must have gone back to the house, intentionally, to collect the second one!
I'm embarrassed and impressed, in equal measure!😚

Train him to ignore the black shapes and go for gold coloured with small sparkling bits on them. If he can recognise letters then teach him R O L E X.

He's beautiful 😍

Cornflowers35 · 08/09/2024 23:47

OMG what a handsome boy.

But oh his little face. It's almost like he ready to sob, "don't you like my presents?".

Whilst his gifts have a face, at least they didn't have 4 legs and a tail and require rescuing.

I had a cat who liked to "break" into other peoples houses. He thankfully didn't steal anything. (So long as you don't count knocking over a butter dish or cuddling your best friends (also a cat) scratching post.

AvocadoSurprise · 08/09/2024 23:54

Oh my gosh, he's so handsome!

Of all the cats we've had, only one was similarly inclined & the most bizarre thing he bought us was a table tennis net.

Sadly we lost him young as he ran out in front of a car (I don't blame the driver, he did his best & took him to a vet) but our boy had the most stunning herringbone tabby pattern with white coat. It was 25 years ago so I don't have a digital photo to pay the cat tax, I'm afraid.

He was called Pickle though. By name & nature.

AvocadoSurprise · 08/09/2024 23:57

What's your beautiful, if slightly naughty, boy called?

Lellamir · 09/09/2024 00:04

He's called Emir, and his (equally beautiful, in my eyes) sister is Leyla.
They were already named, and I'd got so used to them in messages and videos from the rescuer, while I waited for them to arrive (from UAE), that I didn't have the heart to change them.
If I had, they would be called Dolly and Kenny.

Photo of her, so she isn't left out. Not that she'd allow such a thing!

My cat Ollie brought me 14 different leaves in one day, plus one flower and a sock from next door.
to be fair he is a mainly indoor cat, during summer he ventured all of 4 feet 😂
here he is in his ‘I like big butts and I cannot lie’ position he does so splendidly..

I was brought a dog bone and half a fat ball in the same week, I felt really guilty for the dog that must have returned for its bone to find it gone!!

I got my first prey gift this week - a headless pigeon. I’d really like more fat balls now I’ve experienced the other option.

Wow! They are both stunning! They have the most amazing eyes.

Ollie is a beautiful boy too. I've had two lovely black & whites.

Lellamir · 09/09/2024 00:19

I felt so mean and ungrateful, taking them back. Or, burying the odd small creature. It feels like binning a picture DC have drawn!
The neighbours, on the other hand, were very grateful. They didn't even know the watches were gone. His face was a picture when DS produced them!

I wish there was a like button, to like the cat pics.

That's an idea, Pixie. I think we still have flashcards, somewhere 😂

My son's black and white is a ridiculous looking little thing. He's polydactyl, so has disproportionately large 'feet', to accommodate all the toes! He looks like Sylvester the cat 😂

OP posts:
Inarightpickleandpreserve · 09/09/2024 00:39

ollie is a tuxedo gentleman with aspect of a potential career in drag.
he has one favourite piece of string that is running out, i often wonder if he were to venture further than 4 feet, what he may come home with!
so far though the most exotic thing is a sock from next door…..

Your cats are gorgeous OP!

FloofPaws · 09/09/2024 06:31

Cats are hilarious - yours is definitely a cat burglar - you should call him the pink panther!

We had a lazy fat fluffy tuxedo cat who relied mainly on his sister to do all the unnecessary hunting, but would bring us easy catches, we received hand water sausages and burgers during bbq season and one day he had this lump of dark brown stuff in mouth coming through the cat flap, dropped it at my feet, turned out it was what was left of a roast beef joint - I'll bet the people he stole it from were peeved they didn't get their Monday beef sandwiches

I think so, but I'm biased.
They're just street cats. Sadly, there are thousands just like them, out there. No-one wants them. They're considered vermin😢
My two were fortunate enough to be heard, crying in some undergrowth, at the side of a very busy road, and were rescued.
I don't know if they were abandoned, or whether they're from the wild colonies.

You'd certainly never know now, though, that they had such a rough start. They're very demanding, and very shouty, but also very loving. With people, anyway; they hate other cats, but they are very attached to each other. I guess it was the two of them, against the world, for a while.

Sausages and beef, I understand. But watches? Cats really are funny creatures. I had no idea cats had such big personalities, before these two came along.

Gah, didn't mean to do that big quote. I've just deleted the app, because it's so annoying, and I'm just getting used to this version of Chat.

Perhaps the watch is to ensure dinner is on time 😹

Esgaroth · 09/09/2024 12:52

Have you read Slinky Malinki? Grin

Lellamir · 09/09/2024 14:04

Ha, I hadn't, but I have now. Well, I watched it. Emir is sitting with me, but pretended to be asleep.

He doesn't go out at night; he burgled the neighbours in broad daylight.
At least, he doesn't, unless we forget to push up the door handles. For about a week, I told DS off for leaving the front door open. He denied it, but I knew it wasn't me. Then I saw Emir open it!

@Lellamir you have Mau cats too! We also have a rescue from the UAE and he is equally shouty demanding and characterful. I'd love him to have the adventures your boy is having but he's got a range of health issues that mean he's safer in our garden - he's still living life to the full though 😊

Only one of mine has ever visited any of the neighbours, she never brings gifts. Not even a leaf. Complete freeloader.

You have a very grateful kitty recognising you deserve high value gifts 🎁 😻

Lellamir · 09/09/2024 15:07

I was warned about how 'full on' Maus are, but I was a bit naive about what I was letting myself in for.

No-one got any sleep for the first few months, with all the shouting and jumping at doors.

I had angled netting put all the way around the garden - they jumped straight over it.
I took Emir out on a harness and lead. He bolted up to the shed roof, jumped off and used his weight to rip the Velcro open, while he dangled over into next door.
They were determined to get outside, so they go out, but only when I'm here. They only go up and down this row - there are 8 houses, and the path and the back lane don't go anywhere else.
They mooch in and out, the whole time, and they (usually!) come when I call them. Then, they sit in front of the treat drawer.
It was surprisingly easy to 'train' them, with dried chicken cubes.

I would love to adopt at least another pair, but when we fostered a kitten, mine were very unhappy. They were stressed the whole time and, again, me and DS had to take it in turns sleeping, to keep them all separate. It wasn't fair on them or the kitten.

The individuals in UAE, who rescue and foster are amazing. But, there are just so many of them.
My friend is currently in Turkey, posting photo's on SM, of colonies of street cats, there 😢
