Cat burglar!

My cat brought me a present home. I saw a long black thing out of the corner of my eye, and thought it was a snake - but it was a man's watch, with a black strap. We then found another one, on the stairs!

They are now back with their rightful owners, up the lane, but I had a thought. He couldn't have got them both in his mouth at once, so he must have gone back to the house, intentionally, to collect the second one!
I'm embarrassed and impressed, in equal measure!😚

Mugshot of the criminal mastermind.

Blimey @Lellamir ! Ours has got manky paws so he's not as agile as yours but he can still jump surprisingly high . We would also love to adopt another one but as you say I'm worried that Elton won't be happy and he has to come first. I know what you mean about being a bit naive about them - we were shell shocked for the first few months with all the shouting!!

Pudmyboy · 09/09/2024 17:13

@Lellamir your cats are absolutely gorgeous, so glad you rescued them!😻😻

Lellamir · 09/09/2024 18:18

Thank you, PudMyBoy.

No-one wanted them. They were rescued at 6 weeks-ish, and the rescuer had been trying to home them, ever since.

I'd seen a video about the situation, there, and learned that bonded pairs are difficult to place. They often have to be separated. I saw these two and thought there'd be lots of competition for such a lovely pair, but they'd been in a multi cat foster, for a year, with no applications😢

Oh, and I just popped out to apologize to the wife of the neighbour I returned the watches to, only to find out that it's not the first time. She lost one, a few months ago, and thought she was 'losing her marbles' because she was so sure about where she'd left it 😳

So, to the poster who declared him innocent, I'm afraid he is actually a repeat offender!

Oh it's their lovely long legs I love! Do yours have pockets they can retract them into ? We call Elton Robocat as he can make his legs really long or very very short depending on his mood!

Oh, I didn't realise that was a thing! But, yes, they do that, and DS calls me to 'look, look, they're doing cute arms'.
We have loads of photos of them doing 'cute arms'. Don't all cats do it?

OP posts:
Lellamir · 09/09/2024 18:58

Oh, yes, they do 'cute ars' and 'bunny legs' but I just assumed it was a cat thing.

My friend's cat had a habit of going to the neighbouring cat's house in the middle of the night and stealing his toys. Friend could not fathom how all these toys were appearing every morning - some of them were fairly large! Eventually neighbour mentioned it and Lenny dropped.

Puppylucky · 09/09/2024 21:15

Oh they are so beautiful! I'm not sure about other cats but I know Maus have a pocket behind their front shoulders that they tuck away extra leg in - hence they can suddenly become tall enough to reach something they shouldn't!

Lellamir · 09/09/2024 21:48

Ah, now that makes sense. They're medium sized cats, but sometimes, when they're stretched out, I do a double take, because they look twice as long as I thought they were.
I suppose it comes in handy with the breaking and entering...

Bonnie would like to show her long legs!

Puppylucky · 10/09/2024 19:20

Oh wow @Mia184 she's tall!

Mia184 · 10/09/2024 19:36

@Puppylucky this picture was taken a couple of months ago when I had gotten her from a farm where she was unwanted. She was quite skinny then so the legs look extra long.

soddingkitten · 10/09/2024 23:29

Sodding cat has lumbered through the cat flap with a whole cooked chicken breast (cold), half a mince pie and a stuffing ball at different points in time. He was most cross about the chicken breast being confiscated. I asked on the street WhatsApp group but it wasn’t stolen from anyone on our street. 😬

Pixiedust1234 · 11/09/2024 00:27

oooh! I would love a mince pie raider in my house. Preferably one that didn't snaffle half first though.

I've had a couple of strays here who have suddenly produced very long legs out of nowhere. The earlier leggy boy got sent to a rescue but somehow the later stray leggy girl hasn't followed the same rescue path as the previous three strays (two who had normal legs). I wonder if I can train her to bring me mince pies 🤔

Cato steals cat food pouches from any neighbours that haven’t locked them down.
Our cupboards have a baby lock

Many of the neighbours clearly don’t -
multiple brands just appear, chewed open, contents emptied.

He’s now on a much needed diet at home, which is just making the thefts more frequent. I’ve put his picture and crimes on our neighbourhood FB page

Tezza1 · 11/09/2024 01:16

His name should be Macavity. I first read the poem when I was about eight, and the first stanza always stuck in my mind:
"Macavity's a Mystery Cat: he's called the Hidden Paw -
For he's the master criminal who can defy the Law.
He's the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad's despair:
For when they reach the scene of crime – Macavity's not there!"

And, no, I've never seen "Cats".

Sodding cat has done this too. It was my immediate neighbour’s cat food stash so she told me straight away.

Not just greedy Cato then, does make me feel better.
