My beautiful boy

We received a knock on our door to say there was a cat on the road and it was my beloved Jerry, not even 10 years old. I am so so sad. I can't imagine working at home without him. Or sleeping in my bed, or coming home from being away for the day. I feel like I've lost a part of myself. What do people do with the body? I feel so torn between the options, appreciate any thoughts. Pictures added because he is so beautiful.

Aww, so sorry, OP. I've been there. It's awful. We buried ours in the garden. Is that an option?

Jezzballs2000 · 29/08/2024 22:12

Sorry didn't manage to add

Thank you, I knew there would be solidarity here. I would like to bury him. Are there 'rules' to follow about what to do?

He was so beautiful, so sorry to hear your news op.

Cornflowers35 · 29/08/2024 22:16

I'm so sorry. Cats are just the most amazing pets.

I've also buried our precious fur babies in the garden.

AmberExpert · 29/08/2024 22:18

So sorry to read this, it's just heartbreaking isn't it. He's a gorgeous boy, sending love x

Alwaystired23 · 29/08/2024 22:25

Lovely photos. They are part of the family. I would dig a fairly deep hole (2ft should be ok) and wrap him in a blanket or towel.

@Jezzballs2000

Oh sweetie...... I'm so, so, so sorry. Sad I think when a cat is old and ailing and weak and frail - like 17 to 20 years old or more, and you have to get them put to sleep, you know it's the best thing for them. It's the kindest thing to do, you wave them goodbye - over the rainbow bridge - with a very heavy heart, and sadness in your soul, but knowing it's the best thing for them...

But for your lovely boy, who has been taken at just 10 years old, that's so devastating ...😢 That's just like, middle aged. That's like a human dying at 45! Just far too young. And for him to be tragically killed by getting hit by a car - that's very sad.

He's absolutely gorgeous! Look at his beautiful face. Smile I do feel your heartbreak because we did lose one of our beautiful cats at just 7 years old. (Some years ago.) We never found out what happened to her. She went missing for two weeks - and then was found behind somebody's garage when they came home from holiday. Looks like she had been dead for a while, and it looked like she died the day that she went missing.

We were absolutely heartbroken. My two children were only primary school age at the time and they were devastated. We never found out what happened to her. We just assumed maybe a dog attacked her, or it might have been a massive rat or something.

I really don't know what to say to you, except you really have my sympathy. Flowers I'm really sorry that there's nothing I can say to make it better. I just know that time will heal ...

Thinking of you tonight, and your pain and sorrow... Take care. 💕

I'm so sorry 😔 I know exactly how you feel. Heart breaking. Xxxx

maudelovesharold · 29/08/2024 22:38

Oh I’m so sorry, op. He’s a very handsome boy. He looks like he was a real character, who very obviously lived his best life with you. As far as I know there is nothing to prevent you from burying him in the garden. Flowers

ohthejoys21 · 29/08/2024 22:41

I'm heartbroken for you. Almost 10 blissful loving years with you though. One lucky boy.

DrCoconut · 29/08/2024 22:42

I lost my ginger cat at 8 years old. He was really like Jerry. We had him cremated because we were in a rented house with no real garden. It's a horrible situation to be in and so sad.

Jezzballs2000 · 29/08/2024 22:52

Thank you everyone your words have really helped. I think I'll bury him tomorrow under the tree he used to sit in and have a place to remember him.

I thinking every sound in the house is him. Xx

I am so sorry about your beautiful Jerry. It is a truly heartbreaking way to lose him. You can see from your photos what a contented and loved cat he was.

Do what will comfort you the most. He lives in your heart and your memories.

VeryQuaintIrene · 29/08/2024 23:03

What a gorgeous boy, I am so sorry for your loss. We bury all ours in the garden and we never forget any of them.

ComingInByAnsible · 29/08/2024 23:05

What a beautiful kitty. I am so sorry OP. He looks so happy in the photos, he must have had the best life with you Flowers

IslaSkywalker · 29/08/2024 23:08

He's a very cute cat and I'm so sorry 😿😿

Allotmenthelp · 29/08/2024 23:17

I’m so sorry for your loss. You can see that he was loved and he will have felt that.

I lost my cat a few days ago and it’s unbelievably painful. The loss of a pet is huge as the love is unconditional, they rely on you for everything and they are part of your home. Make sure you look after yourself and know what he will always be a part of you.

On a practical note, think if you want to take any paw prints from him (or if someone could do that for you) or if you have any tufts of fur around you could put in a locket or necklace. I didn’t think at the time and wish I had now.

Sandwichgen · 29/08/2024 23:19

Please put him in a wooden or metal box and bury him deep, so the foxes can’t dig him up.

Dig as deep a hole as you can to prevent him being dug up by foxes or something. We planted a shrub over our rabbit.

Oh gosh. I’m so so sorry. My girls are 10 and 4 months. Your boy was absolutely beautiful. Sending you love.

What a beautiful boy 😪 I’m so sorry

Bernadinetta · 29/08/2024 23:59

So sorry to hear this, Jerry was so beautiful xx

Jezzballs2000 · 30/08/2024 08:22

Thank you everyone it was so comforting to read these. My mother in law is taking my toddler today so I can just have a good cry and I think I will dig a hole while I'm on my own. A few more pictures- there was certainly not shortage of them. I have millions from before my son was born and at least as many as him from the last few years.
