Cat missing, blood outside the door

workshy46 · 11/06/2024 10:22

There is lots of blood outside our back door, trail in paw prints and on the front window where we also let him in. Any chance he is still alive ? He has not come back and he always does. There is a new cat next door which has been bullying him but cats don't kill other cats do they ? There are foxes with a cub in the bushes. I am desperate .. kids blame me for leaving him out last night. I should have tried harder to get him to come in but he is often out at night and then sleeps inside all day. Any ideas ??

Check under any hedges or bushes close by. When we had cats one got in a fight with another on the street and came back a couple of days later looking very much the worse for wear. We're pretty sure he spent his time licking his wounds under the big hedge. When they lose a fight they seem to need a while to get over it and show face again.

Have you had a good search around, under bushes, in sheds, gaps etc. A hurt or injured animal will hide away to protect themselves. I do hope your kitty is ok and you find him safe and well but do have a good look around. They can squeeze into the tiniest gaps. And check neighbouring gardens too. Knock on doors, ask if anyone has seen him or any sign (more blood trails etc) x

A bit of blood goes a long way, so your cat may not be as badly injured as you think. Go out with an open tin of tuna, rattle a pack of Dreamies - whatever normally attracts his attention. If you can't find him during the day, try again after dark when it's quiet - he's more likely to feel able to come out of hiding, and you are more likely to hear a feeble miaow if he's injured and can't get to you.

Thanks you so much, makes me feel much better

Sounds more like a road traffic accident if there is that much blood- Poor cat-
Hopefully he has taken himself off to a secluded spot- injured animals instinctively hide themselves away.
Look under hedges, bushes &c and ask if neighbours can do the same.

My two dogs ( long time ago) once found a badly injured cat who had been hit by a car ( Broken pelvis and femur) we took him to vet- he survived, but had internal bleeding ( no external bleeding) -
Time is of the essence if he has been hit by a vehicle- in case he has clinical shock.

Hope you find him soon .

Probably is under a nearby bush somewhere or behind something like a shed ?

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 11/06/2024 10:35

It’s very very rare for a fox to attack and/or kill a cat. Highly unlikely.
It sounds like a scrap with the other cat and he’s taken himself away or been chased off. He will be back, I’m sure of it.

LostInTheSystem101 · 11/06/2024 10:41

Our cat left a trail of blood in the house and garden.. When we found him, he had a bit of shattered glass in his foot (between his toes) - a tiny little cut but the blood was super dramatic!

I agree with PP, DCat will be hiding somewhere, be patient, keep your voice calm, and keep calling him xx

They absolutely can squeeze into tiny gaps-
a kitten mum found ( she put him in bathroom with a litter tray and blanket til cat rescue place came to collect him) literally disappeared!

He was found behind the Bidet- he’d crawled into the void underneath it!

He was luckily found a home.

Tip: On a campsite in France a woman lost her cat.

I took a torch 🔦 ( as a child) and shone it around, under cars, and found him!
His eyes shone.

He was a big fluffy Tabby called “Bistead” (?)
The German owner was in floods of tears and much wailing- Next morning she brought me a chocolate bar as thanks- But it was lovely reuniting her with Bistead.
( Who was a good puss and allowed himself to be caught and carried by a stranger 🐈.

Torches catch the eyes well.

We live in a hugely foxy area- so much so that fox kits enter the houses sometimes- to the bebustlement of dogs-
They don’t hurt cats, not even an adult fox bothers cats.
They co exist quite happily.

thebluebeyond · 11/06/2024 10:56

foxes are never going to go for a live cat, but may very well drag away and eat a dead one. Obviously, this is the worst case scenario, I very much hope your cat is found alive - please do update us

Julianne65 · 11/06/2024 11:57

Our cat chases foxes around here if they dare to enter our garden. They seem terrified of her and she's not a big girl.

workshy46 · 11/06/2024 12:26

We found him and hes perfect, not a scratch on him but he's a bit spooked. Thank you so much, I really really appreciate it.

just found this - very glad to see it. Was he bringing you something dead then? Do you think?

Astrak · 12/06/2024 20:23

I'm so glad that you found your cat. What a relief! My current cat is an indoor one and seems quite content. I provide lots of interactive play with him and he has the run of the house.

He sleeps a lot in the day time and keeps me awake at night tearing around playing with his toys and hurtling up and down stairs!

Sandwichgen · 12/06/2024 20:36

Oh thank heavens!!

Beamur · 12/06/2024 20:44

Phew!
My cat brought a magpie in once - blood everywhere. I wonder if the blood you saw was from something he caught?

workshy46 · 12/06/2024 20:47

There is a cat next door that bullies him and sits on our steps. I think maybe a fight between the two as he does have a scratch on his paws and the other cat on his ear. There was sooo much blood I was sure he was dead but he's been inside pretty much since and slept a lot. I shoo the other cat away when I see him. He will only go out the back door now, not the front window.
Thank you all soo much.

Oh my gosh this thread was a rollercoaster of emotions! So pleased you've found him and he's ok!

Autumn1990 · 12/06/2024 20:53

Glad you found him
when one of ours was bullied by a neighbouring cat she would hide in the bushes from it and not come in when called. We repeatedly shot the bully with the water pistol.

Oh how marvellous! What a relief!
But the blood is a bit of a mystery!🤔

Pudmyboy · 12/06/2024 21:31

(Aha, I see you have explained why, I was just so taken with the news that he had been found safe and well that I rushed to the end of the thread to post my message!)

AllTheOtherCats · 12/06/2024 22:25
