Important (and sad) announcement regarding TC

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/06/2024 10:33

I’m really very sorry to announce that our NDN (TC’s Dad) is moving away.
Without going into too much detail his marriage broke up a little while ago and his children are now in Australia, but the final nail in the coffin is that his landlord is demanding the house back. As a result of all of this he is moving back to his native Germany.
While he’s able to take the dogs, the flat he is moving to and his expected work patterns means that he can’t take TC and give him the life he deserves
So…
If any of TC’s admirers would like an ‘opportunity’ to take him on (before he gets taken to Battersea Old Windsor), we’d be interested to hear from you. We'll obviously ask lots of questions to ensure that any offers are serious about TC's needs.
TC needs unfettered access to outdoor space, and an experienced cat owner (and understanding neighbours).

Were someone from MN to take him on, it would be nice to think that his escapades would continue to be documented on the site.
Oh – and his real name is Gizmo. - Gizzi to his friends.

Any questions please PM me or @TCsDad

As a follow on - yes we'd love to take TC on, but it would stress our cats too much (Basil and Lenny particularly) so would not be workable.

Yes, that was the first thought that came to my mind, with the same conclusion.

The awful thing is that TC isn't a terribly young cat either, so his chances of getting another home like NDNs is quite slim if he has to go to a rescue. Especially bearing in mind that he does seem to be a little "spirited"...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/06/2024 12:13

OH NO! That is just so awful. I'm so sorry on all levels.

Not the news I was expecting.

ThugCatAdmirer · 08/06/2024 12:40

So sorry to hear this news, must be very hard for all concerned.

I would absolutely love to be able to offer TC a home, but unfortunately my cat is such a bolshy bully she would probably bully even TC himself. She has even swiped the NDN's gigantic Staffy. Bizarrely, but very luckily, he worships her as his Sibyl Confused

I do so hope a new TC home could be provided by a MNer - that would be lovely. Also perhaps @thecatneuterer may be able to advise? (Hope it's OK to @ you)

CassandraCross · 08/06/2024 12:45

That is very sad news for NDN and TC. I regret I am unable to offer TC a home, but I hope he will be found one very soon.

RumNotRun · 08/06/2024 13:11

That's really sad news. I would love TC to come and live with me but the tribe probably would hate it and there are too many assholes round here with shit dogs for me to let the cats out, so TC wouldn't like it.

Couldn't the landlord let TC stay? Fingers crossed that TC gets a new perfect home, and please wish his dad lots of luck in Germany. I'm sure he will also be missed.

OccasionalHope · 08/06/2024 13:14

So sorry - best wishes to NDN who seemed like a lovely chap.

AnneKipankitoo · 08/06/2024 14:37

Oh no! Such a shame.

Defiantlynot41 · 08/06/2024 14:41

Oh no! I'd love to have him but fear my two 18 year old ladies would not cope.

Best of luck TC 's dad

AnneKipankitoo · 08/06/2024 14:58

Maybe TC knew this all along and that is why he lives with you.

Sweetpea1532 · 08/06/2024 16:37

Well@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats It would seem the best solution is that the demanding landlord must allow TC to stay at the residence...he won't be any trouble at all...he's got all of MN littertray to vouch for him😂 How could LL just boot them both out on the street?

On another note...is there going to be a future thread on AIBU about your new neighbour? I sure hope not..TC's dad and the Grumpy family have such a nice neighbourly relationship! It would be a shame to have the opposite situation. Fingers crossed things go smoothly.

Didsomebodysaysnacks · 08/06/2024 19:01

Shame, he seems like a great cat.

Few questions:
Is he suitable for young children?
Does he travel?
Does he spend most of his time outdoors or indoors?
Does he moult everywhere?
Does he pee on the floor?
Does he get on with male or female cats?
Does he beat up other cats or just assert his dominance?

We're currently on the waiting list for semi ferals but I could be persuaded (my husband and my neighbours cats are the harder ones to convince hence the questions).

Thanks for your interest - I'm afraid thar you are now in a queue, but to answer your questions.
Is he suitable for young children? I'd suggest definitely not.
Does he travel? - don't know, he's always lived in the same house.
Does he spend most of his time outdoors or indoors? Mixture, in summer he is out (trying to break into our house) most of the time.
Does he moult everywhere? Don't believe any more than any other cat - he is short haired.
Does he pee on the floor? No.
Does he get on with male or female cats? apparently he'd like to get on with all our cats. Our cats may have other ideas.
Does he beat up other cats or just assert his dominance? He's never beaten any of ours up - worst case is the odd loud argument. He really didn't like a grey and white on the street though...

@Didsomebodysaysnacks
Can I ask what experience you have with cats?where you live and what sort of environment it is (outside space, proximity to main roads, type of property & household members, particularly children?))
What other pets do you have? and most importantly, what you could offer to TC and why do you want a cat like him?
Thanks.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats we have young children, sounds like we're not right for him! Shame, I have very happy memories of a cat that looked just like him as a child and we're somewhere with loads of outdoor space that would be perfect for an outdoorsy cat. Best of luck finding him the perfect home ♥️

Your poor neighbour. What a turnaround in his life.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/06/2024 08:35

Yes, it sounds like an awful situation for all concerned. Flowers

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 09/06/2024 09:14

How about the lady down the road who likes him?

I mean he’s spirited but bengals are very affectionate, very playful and loving cats.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/06/2024 09:37

Someone on the road did express an interest but NDN is worried that if the landlord comes in to do some work and then buggers off for weeks/months, then it would be a real risk if TC were to get in.
It's probably worth mentioning that before NDN moved in, the house was empty for about ten years and the owners have other empty houses on the street... Don't ask 😲.

And just in case anyone has forgotten what he looks like.
TC showing off his spots in the sun on our drive this morning. (Heard him miaowing outside)

Oh no, this really feels like the end of an era! So sorry for your neighbour and for TC/Gizmo😥
I sincerely hope he finds a wonderful forever home very soon!🐈

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/06/2024 10:04

The LL isn't exactly a reasonable person who might leave a key or window unlocked in case of emergency then?

CatChant · 09/06/2024 10:47

Oh how beautiful he is showing off his spots in the sunshine.

That is sad news to hear about TC’s family.

I hope the handsome rascal finds a wonderful home. He deserves one.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 09/06/2024 12:58

You could smash a window in that situation. If it arose.
