Litter robot £100 off at John Lewis

I have two Maine coons just coming up to one year old and producing waste commensurate with their size. I have been in two minds about the litter robot since I got them. John Lewis is now stocking it and they have £100 off a home spend of over £100 that it qualifies for. Set it up on Friday night and they both started using it the same night. I am so thrilled with it. It was a lot of money (made less painful by having a lot of John Lewis vouchers so didn't feel like real money) but so far feels like it's going to be worth it!
Just thought I'd post in case the ability to deal with a U.K. retailer plus decent discount made up anyone else's mind!

Reassuring to see a high street shop stocking them. It put me off that you can only get them online. Unfortunately I can't afford one!

VelvetandLace · 03/03/2024 19:21

How do they work?

Galliano · 04/03/2024 04:29

The litter which has to be ultra clumping sits in a drum. There are sensors which detect the weight of a cat and a few minutes after the cat has departed the drum rotates and sifts out the clump into the base. The base is lined with a bag and you periodically have to dispose of this.

Best cat gadget ever! It's practically almost paid for itself already since October by saving us so much money on cat litter!

DCat is a long time Litter Robot user (since 2018!) but just upgraded to the new Litter Robot 4 and it’s AMAZING, you can’t even hear it go round.

Floyd45 · 29/03/2024 18:02

@InTheRainOnATrain what litter do you use in it? I just bought one for my 2 British shorthairs but not sure what litter works best…. Super excited - I hope they use it!!!

SevenSeasOfRhye · 29/03/2024 18:06

It sounds amazing but I can imagine the dismay of shelling out on one only to have my cats turn their nose up at it!

£500 for a litter tray 😳😳

We use Sanicat clumping. Hope they like it!

It was £100 off a £500 spend at the time I posted - the actual cost is about £850 I think

I use intersand which is also what I used previously.
My cats both used immediately on set up. We set up on a Friday and cleared the manual litter tray away by Sunday night.
A month in I am so happy with this purchase - has removed the bit of cat ownership I hated.
I think we’ve probably saved about £10 a week on litter so I guess we will break even at some point next year!

Thank-you for the litter tips!!! Fingers crossed they like it - although I have the option to send it back within 90 days in case they don’t…

ginasevern · 30/03/2024 15:59

Does it make much of a noise? My cat gets scared of strange noises.

The new one, so the Litter Robot 4, is almost silent. The older models are noisier. Ours is in the understairs cupboard and I can’t hear it all now but I could hear the previous model (we bought the LR3 in 2018 and have just upgraded as the old one was becoming unreliable). Also, it’s on a timer so it won’t cycle until several minutes after the cat is done and there are 3 options for this so it can go quite quickly to avoid odours or you can wait longer to avoid startling the cat. If it detects the cat reentering mid cycle it instantly stops. So should be fine even for a skittish kitty, mine is also pretty jumpy and no issues whatsoever!

Re litter anything clumping, not too heavy, no large pelts and not too dusty should work. Worlds Best also works fine but I find more tracks out with that versus the Sanicat. Loads on Reddit if you want to deep dive 🤣

This!

Slavetomycat · 30/03/2024 17:56

We have had it for 9 days and madam has yet to even sniff at it. We had three old litter box next to up to last night, then took it away hoping for desperate measures to kick in. Woke up to gifts on the door mat. I'm so hoping she gives up and goes in it today!

Can you get your money back if your cat won't use it?

I'm reluctant to even try a tray with a flap in case mine don't like it, there's no way I'd be shelling out nearly 1k Grin

Galliano · 30/03/2024 18:18

Mine came from John Lewis so I'm not sure if I could have returned it. You can if you buy it direct from the states but the thought of the hassle of dealing with an overseas vendor really put me off!
Sounds like I'm lucky my two went for it straight off! I think it helped that the brand of litter I used was compatible. I put the robot where the preferred litter box had been and scooped a bit of litter across to start off if that helps.

Have you tried putting some used litter inside it? (@Slavetomycat )

Hi. How have you saved on litter? Why does it use so much less than a normal litter box

Hi. How have you saved on litter? Why does it use so much less than a normal litter box

Whatever you need to justify the purchase but not sure I get how it can save litter compared to a basic box with clumping litter and a sieve style scoop because in both cases you’re only taking out the deposits. That said it’s been over 6 years since we used a normal box so I have no personal basis for comparison so it’s possible I’m missing something.

However, it saves you scooping and most importantly it doesn’t smell because it’s always cleaned as soon as the cat has used and isn’t left festering all day because you happen to be out. So I’m sold regardless of whether or not it uses less Sanicat 🤣
