Naming cats

We've had our current two cats for a number of years, they are littermate brothers. We have tried a number of names over the years but none have "stuck" so they've been referred to by their colours, Ginger and Tabby. However we have just rehomed a six month kitten who is also ginger, so that's not going to work any more. I was considering the matter over the weekend and as I dozed off to sleep the names Mike, Pete and Dave came to me and I thought, "Yes, ordinary bloke names, perfect!"

I mentioned this to DS1 who laughed and asked, "Who's Pete?" I replied that they were just random names and he pointed out that actually the other two names belong to my brothers in law! (In my defence, they use the full versions.) So back to the drawing board, but my brain is just farting. Any ideas?

You need some pictures for us to name them.

Caspianberg · 13/12/2023 15:45

I like to use name so might not be brave enough for a child. Old man names.

Hector
Cedric
Otto
Frank
Monty
Lionel

I can't do pictures, I have been economical with the truth 're their colours in an attempt to maintain privacy. Blush The names are honest, though.

Old man names are fine and Frank is a possibility, I want one-syllable names.

What are your children's name suggestions?

Children are supposed to be "helpful" in naming pets.

tortoiseshellcats · 13/12/2023 15:55

LadyDanburysHat · 13/12/2023 15:56

Cats are better with two syllable short names to answer to. But love the standard bloke names.

Reugny · 13/12/2023 15:58

Milo
Bob
Morris

Though "Tom" is a good one. 😂

EarlofShrewsbury · 13/12/2023 15:58

My children are grown men (and one of their names has been suggested above 😁 ) but toddler grand children suggested Tabby Cat, Ginger Cat (existing names) and Pussy Cat for the kitten. So not entirely helpful! 😂

Out last 5 cats have had human names. It can be really entertaining when you go to the vets as they don't know if it is my name or the cats. 😁

ChateauDuMont · 13/12/2023 16:04

Frankie and Benny?

Frankie and Johnny?

Stan and Laurel?

Bert and Ernie?

JustCuriousASHP · 13/12/2023 16:08

I am realising that the problem with old man names, is that as an older person, those names already belong to friends... 🤔😂

I'm liking Frank, Bob and Bert - my grandfather's name.

Done.

Or you could name them after some of the actors who played Bond e.g. Sean, Tim, Roger.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 13/12/2023 16:12

The first two are actually registered at the vet with Star Wars names. First grandchild responsible for that!

It has just occurred to me that Bob and Bert are the same name. Gah!

Not necessarily.

Bert can be short for Albert, Herbert or a few more names.

There as Bob is just short from Robert.

So Albert Einstein, Robert Boyle and Francis Bacon.
