Disturbing cat behaviour

My 6 year old rescue make cat has this habit of humping blankets. He takes the fluffy blanket in his teeth, kneads with his front paws and writhes. He has an erection when doing this. He was castrated when rescued by the RSPCA aged 4. Never had a cat who did this before.
Does anyone else's cat do this? I find this behaviour somewhat disturbing.

It's normal. It's a comfort thing mostly.

Ibizabar · 02/11/2023 17:12

It's quite normal for cats. Mine has been having a special relationship with a fluffy blanket for years.

Alargeoneplease89 · 02/11/2023 17:12

It's stress related, my cat went through this when he had anxiety.

JobStresserxo · 02/11/2023 17:16

Can't help wondering if my cat is a bit of a pervert as he does it several times a day, and always has a glassy eyed faraway look when he is doing it 😳

No different to a toddler finding their genitals. Nothing perverse about it.

You're putting human emotion onto a natural act for an animal.

He's just doing something that makes him feel good. It's normal for some cats. Nothing weird or disturbing about it.

JobStresserxo · 02/11/2023 17:23

Glad you all think it's normal! He's a lovely boy in his character.

Omgreally11 · 02/11/2023 17:28

Yep totally normal. My boy cat does it. He purrs very intensely and meows very loudly if you accidentally disturb him. As others said, it's often a response to stress and is comforting to them.

SallyWD · 02/11/2023 17:29

Mine does it whenever he's near a soft fluffy blanket. He does it several times a day - also a castrated, rescue cat and he has an erection when he does it. It's fine! Just a natural instinct. It's not disturbing or perverted.

shadowrose · 02/11/2023 17:32

My cat does this with my dressing gown, unfortunately. I have to ensure it’s not left out where he can get it 😂 I think it’s a comfort thing for him.

KaySararSarar · 02/11/2023 17:35

My husband also has a fondness for a fluffy blankie, our coach throw gets it a few times a week. I’m only ever bothered by it when we have guests, I think it’s the maintained eye contact that somehow makes it worse.

Increasinglyfrazzledteacher · 02/11/2023 17:46

I had a neutered male cat who used to regularly shag my arm. He was a genuinely lovely cat.

OK well now that IS disturbing. Your husband?

Husband? 🙀😹.

My cats are far too civilized to behave in this way. NDN"s cat does this though.

CesareBorgia · 02/11/2023 18:13

He's essentially having a wank, nothing to worry about.

Bleepbloopbluurp · 02/11/2023 18:15

Mine does it too, despite having no balls.

It's really all about the fluffy blanket though sometimes he tries it on with me and gets short shrift. We have named his blanket his "girlfriend" and when another cat commandeered it had to get him a new one.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/11/2023 18:18

My female cat does this. It's more her face she does it on. They have glands in their face that feel nice when they rub it

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/11/2023 18:18

And my DD always sense it's something to do with missing their mama cat 😿

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/11/2023 18:19

Says not sense!

Mine too- and my Oodie when I'm wearing it 😂

Just remembered how I once put the dressing gown over me and went to sleep in bed and woke up at 3am with the cat on top of me, humping the dressing gown and purring 😂 quite a rude awakening

JobStresserxo · 02/11/2023 19:23

Thanks guys! Some of these replies have made me how; especially the post about the husbandl! 😂

Yeah, I hide certain blankets due to this.

It's worse when they look you dead in the eye 😂
