Disturbing cat behaviour

My 6 year old rescue make cat has this habit of humping blankets. He takes the fluffy blanket in his teeth, kneads with his front paws and writhes. He has an erection when doing this. He was castrated when rescued by the RSPCA aged 4. Never had a cat who did this before.
Does anyone else's cat do this? I find this behaviour somewhat disturbing.

Mine would bonk anything that was fluffy. He was neutered as well. Started off as a kitten and carried on right until a few weeks before I lost him at the age of 16

One of ours has a particular fondness for a certain pair of DH's socks. Now called the Sex Socks Grin

I find it a bit grim too

Bloody hell! I had several cats, over the course of 41 years (all were speyed/neutered). All but one were female, but I'd never once seen that behaviour in any of them.

Do you know when your cat was castrated? I read that ideally male cats need to be castrated early (well before one year old), before they start puberty. If it's done too late the cat has already experienced sexual urges. You can remove their balls but they'll remember sexual pleasure. My cat was a rescue and castrated at 1 year old. I think this is why he humps the blanket with an erection, because he'd already learnt what feels good sexually, prior to castration.

My boy was 4 when castrated by RSPCA when they rescued him. He still remembers the happy days before his op very vividly!

That's why then!

Mine does it too. I'm just glad he can still feel good even though I took his goolies from him, poor little guy.

lollipoprainbow · 02/11/2023 22:32

Yes my rescue cat 7 does this too, we call it his special time !

Minidriverinmorewaysthan1 · 02/11/2023 23:07

Yes, our male cat does this too. His favourite is a fluffy hedgehog doorstop which lives upstairs. Most days it gets carried downstairs and is humped in the hallway! He's also been known to hump DP's slippers!

I had a big boy years ago that did this. He even used to steal clothes off next doors washing line to "use"

🤦‍♀️

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 03/11/2023 16:24

<makes mental note to only get females in future>

HumourReplacementTherapy · 03/11/2023 19:18

Mine used to do it to his brother. Sort of missionary style with a far away glassy look in his eyes- then bite his neck 😁

thelonemommabear · 03/11/2023 19:35

One of my 4 male cats does this. He went into overdrive when I was pregnant and it was me he constantly hunped to the point I took him back to the vet as he was an insufferable sex pest 😂

Ibizabar · 03/11/2023 20:19

They really are furry little pervs.

GlomOfNit · 07/11/2023 23:28

Ours periodically goes at it with DS's collection of 'cuddly friends' (soft toys) - he prefers the ones with antlers (deer) tusks (mammoths) or big fluffy tails (wolves). Grin It's a bit noisy - we can tell he's at it as he yowls horribly. When DS was younger and more sensitive, he made sure to cover up his 'friends' with his duvet before leaving for school so none of them were raped in his absence!

The beast also loves a knitted or fleece blanket. Sometimes I'm aware of a slight ... residue afterwards. Envy The vet once suggested it might be because he was being bullied outdoors and taking it out on innocent stuffed toys to reassert his dominance, but I think he just likes the odd wank.

All my cats did this and they weren’t stressed out
vet said it’s typical behaviour for cats taken from their mother too soon

Banana1979 · 08/11/2023 12:49
