Uninvited guest, now what?

Hello :)

I currently have 3 cats and a labrador living in my house. My husband put the garbage out the front last night and a white and black cat sauntered in and made himself comfortable on my sofa. My existing 3 cats had an emergency meeting and loudly vocalised their views on this new guest, they started fighting each other. Trouble is, my new guest (Let's call him Bruce) is very skinny, was miaowing and as it turns out from Facebook, has been living outside for a while. Luckily I have a fully enclosed garage where my car lives so I set up an emergency house for Bruce and gave him a bed, water and meals. I've spoken to local animal rescues to ask them for advice but they said "What do you want us to do?". I have searched every Lost and Found group, I have rung shelters and rescues but nobody is missing Bruce. He's a very loving little chap but he can't live in my garage because he needs a home and a family and Winter is Coming. Can anyone advise please?

The cat distribution system has chosen you!

If you definitely don’t want to keep him then the only option is to put adverts up to re-home, or turf him out.
If you keep him in the garage for a bit, then do a slow introduction to the others, it may work. There is lots of advice online about keeping the new one in a separate room, letting them get each others scent, short visits which are supervised.
Is he intact? That may be an issue.

Have you had Bruce scanned ? He might be chipped and lost from miles away !

If he is truly homeless then your garage would be much nicer for him than living rough 😢. When the rescues said “what do you want us to do?” Did they mean “are you planning on keeping him?” They are probably praying you say you are

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 17/10/2023 22:21

If you name them you’re keeping them. Them’s the rules 🙌🏻, no one knows why that’s the rule or who decided but it is.

Bruce needs scanning though, he might be lost. Eventually the other cats will accept him.

RicherThanYews · 19/10/2023 14:25

Thank you everyone. Bruce has been scanned 3 times now and has no microchip (that pissed me off for a start, they cost a tenner). He is also not neutered.

Long story short, some bastard fucker was doing fireworks in the daytime and into the night so Bruce lives indoors now and my girls are not arsed.

My family may or may not be head over heels in love with him and I did not wake up to find him sleep purring on my chest.

Mia184 · 19/10/2023 18:37

Well, you now have four cats and a labrador and we night pictues!

GloriousGoosebumps · 19/10/2023 18:44

How lovely. I'm so pleased that Bruce has a home now. I agree we need a photo!

UnalterableSpaceCadet · 19/10/2023 18:45

Perhaps Bruce won't like you so much once you have his bollocks chopped.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 19/10/2023 18:54

Treat em mean keep them keen.

RicherThanYews · 19/10/2023 19:08

Bruce will love us. I insist on it. My manners have indeed been remiss, I apologise. Cat pics for tax:

I love Bruce.

pinkbunns · 19/10/2023 19:30

Argh he is so cute!
The same thing happened to me, I got adopted by a kitten - I already had 5 cats.

If you live in the UK Cats Protection offer a neutering voucher for £10 which selected vets will accept.

Floralnomad · 19/10/2023 19:32

He’s lovely and looks like he’s fitted right in .

tillytoodles1 · 19/10/2023 19:53

Oh he's gorgeous.

RicherThanYews · 19/10/2023 21:50

@pinkbunns I saw an advert for that recently, I'll look into it ty!

He looks so much better already.

Startingagainandagain · 20/10/2023 09:14

Congratulations. You have been chosen by a furry master as a worthy slave.

Motnight · 20/10/2023 09:22

Bruce is a handsome cat indeed!

minipie · 20/10/2023 09:32

Black call centre handling markers??

Lovely happy ending. Good on you.

RicherThanYews · 20/10/2023 10:33

@minipie yep, call centre markers. Look at his chin, he looks like he's wearing a headset.

I baked a cake yesterday and Bruce was my sous chef, he ate buttercream frosting 🥰 (tiny bit, I caught him).
