Ragdolls

I am planning on viewing some ragdoll kittens shortly. Super excited and haven’t had an indoor cat before, so please hit me with your ragdoll advice, photos, warnings etc.

One issue my partner is intimating he will take issue with white hairs everywhere… hoping this won’t be as bad as he’s making out??

They are lovey. Two with a Catio and several cat trees inside will be happy. They are affectionate and get separation anxiety. Will someone be with them all day?

forrestgreen · 25/08/2023 15:33

I have a Rag doll cross and wouldn't have a pure rag doll because i apparently am rubbish at remembering to groom.
He is an amazing cat though

Gingerkittykat · 25/08/2023 16:18

Here is my blue point outside on her harness. She doesn't like the feel of grass on her princess toes so mainly just goes and sits on the table beside us.

I had a ragdoll cat from a kitten. She was beautiful but horrible. Perhaps she was separated from her mother too soon but she would bite and claw constantly. We never treated her with anything but utmost kindness. And the fur was insane.

Shopper727 · 25/08/2023 16:45

I have a ragamuffin she is beautiful grooms herself but now she’s old she gets some help, also had her brother but he went awol (stolen) years ago was gutted he was so soft loved the dog and kids etc ginger my girl is mink and white with blue eyes. She is a bit temperamental but cuddles etc the fluff can he a bit much at times, also have a golden retriever so hoover etc a lot!

Buffypaws · 25/08/2023 18:38

@Gingerkittykat another beauty! She’s ok with a harness then? I was wondering if they were more compliant than your standard moggy

@Ughhelp i work from home so I’ll be here as a rule. I’m hoping they’d keep each other company now and then. Might have to get a camera!

@spilltheteapot aw that’s a shame… I can appreciate angry cats although hoping ragdolls will be easygoing!

We have a rag doll x bengal, soo fluffy. Sheds a lot though. Sooo friendly though

MadCatLady27 · 25/08/2023 22:03

I have a Ragdoll, absolutely adore the breed!

The fluff is real but I call it an extra special touch to clothes, on the floor it tends to be shed in clumps

They must not go out unsupervised as they don't sense danger, you'll need a harness unless you have extremely high fencing or a catio

They love their people I don't think I'd get a single one

I have full blown conversations with mine, sometimes she chats back

They get obsessions with things, mine is currently obsessed with the bath although she may be less keen on it after I had to wash her pantaloons yesterday following a bit of a stomach upset! The one downside of long haired cats on occasion those wonderful pantaloons can require some attention!

Definitely look into a proper breeder, check the parents have been HCM tested

Photos are a must when you get them 😍

Buffypaws · 25/08/2023 22:32

Sounds great. I mean I could live without the pantaloon issue but I’m sure it’ll work out.

the breeder I am seeing tomorrow has said all HCM and PKD negative, treated for fleas and worms. I am quite keen to get a harness and take them for strolls in the rose garden.

Our Ragdoll is the best cat ever. So funny and weird. He has a rock solid digestive system, and since he has been on Katkin his litter tray is honestly completely odourless. There is quite a lot of cat floof everywhere, but despite being very fluffy he doesn't need grooming at all. Literally never, and he doesn't have a single tangle ever. He's very affectionate and lazy and does the classic Ragdoll flopping thing where he just keels over, often on our feet. We keep him indoors because he wouldn't be safe otherwise, but he expressed an interest in going outside so we built him a catio and he enjoys spending a bit of time out there enjoying the fresh air and the different smells. He doesn't seem desperate to get outside though, I think he's content enough inside. He also sleeps all night and never wakes us up. Basically a perfect cat!

This is our silly boy! Loves my daughter's Lego! 😂 often tries to eat it!

I so wish we had a like button on these pet threads! @Cupcakekiller - adorable!

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 26/08/2023 11:40

This is my Ragdoll... going against the grain he was rehomed tome in part because he did desperately want to be both indoor and outdoor cat... he actually has more road sense than my oriental shorthair (who's definitely smarter in all other ways) and we live at the end of a no through road backing onto fields so it's very quiet and safe.

He was almost 3 when we got him and still quite kittenish and playful but less so now he's 9, but he has his moments!

He is a big soft lump who loves (and often demands) cuddles but we say our house is 90% floof because if him... although my moggie actually sheds worse then he does it's just not so obvious as she's shorthair.

Love him to bits and would say Ragdolls generally make get cuddly, family pets but like all creatures there's no personality guarantee!

They are adorable! Call them Cagney and Lacey. Grin

Tambatamba · 26/09/2023 09:16

Awww 🥰 are they a tortie and a blue point? Sooooo cute.

Buffypaws · 26/09/2023 10:40

Lynx and blue point!

Cagney and Lacey… I’m def up for iconic female duos

OP posts:
Tambatamba · 26/09/2023 19:27

I think the one on the left looks like a Poppy and the one on the right is a Darcey because she has ballet shoes (sorry just realised she's mitted isn't she?)

Tambatamba · 26/09/2023 19:30

You've done a good thing getting two because ragdolls get lonely if you go out. After we got our first girl, I came home regularly to find her with paws up at the front door.

We have two girls and two boys and the girls get on very well but they get cross with the boys even though the poor things don't bother them. I think female ragdolls have more sass. Our boy ragdolls are physically unable to hiss 😂

OMG they are GORGEOUS!

Mypuppywontsleep · 26/09/2023 22:22

I had 2 ragdolls and they were amazing, absolute legends. The bestest cats ever. But the hair. OMG. Bonkers. Lint roller is not enough. Your entire house will be coated in a layer of fluff at all times. Also they are very vocal aka noisy af. Yowling at us chatting all the time and quite clingy

Yes I thought this and they definitely need constant company so it takes the pressure off having both of them. They still follow me around all day though.
