I can't find homes for my kittens

My girl had 4, we are keeping one and one has gone to a friend, bit I cannot find homes for the other 2 despite advertising them, they're 11 weeks now, I wish I could keep them but I cannot afford it. 😞

OP posts:

Thanks again everyone, I will definitely contact shelters now.

@catsnhats11 I know I thought that too, so sad, they're such handsome little chaps.

@EyelessArseFace It's such a worry, I adore them so much, will be hard enough to give them up

You need them to go to someone who will also adore them. A rescue shelter is the best place. Most shelters have volunteer 'kitten cuddlers' who help them socialise before rehoming, and they will be really well looked-after. 🙂

Stickytreacle · 12/06/2023 14:58

I've read your update OP, and so pleased you're contacting rescues, Im sure they'll be found good homes. I can't understand the prejudice against colours, my black cats have been fantastic individuals. I'd love another, but full up with eleven others, not one black one here and I do miss a black cat.

Thanks all, mum was taken in to be spayed and subsequently found to be pregnant again.... she has been spayed now.

I desperately want to avoid a shelter, they're quite timid and I would worry so much, I adore them already.

I'm in Buckinghamshire and have tried FB, gumtree and petify.

@Lochjeda whereabouts are you? Happy to deliver to good homes, 2 little black short hair domestic boys.

Way too far up to East Scotland.

lastminutewednesday · 12/06/2023 15:17

I'm not far from you and I will happily take one-we have been looking for a kitten to keep my cat mad mum company. She has applied to a few rescues but the process is arduous and as she is recently bereaved she can't face it-but she does need something to dedicate herself to. She lives on a farm (though isn't the actual farmer) and has always had cats so would be a very good cat owner. Feel free to DM me

I don't like going through gumtree and as I said rescues haven't been helpful

2bazookas · 12/06/2023 15:23

We took in a stray skinny "kitten" ; two weeks later when vet returned from his holiday I took her to be spayed and he said "Too late! She's well advanced in pregnancy". Three weeks later she gave birth to 6. As we already had 2 cats and three dogs I called tha animal shelter who said they would rehome them; when the kittnes were 8 weeks old, give us a call and bring them down with £25 quid to offset their costs. I arrived, handed over the cash and box of kittens at reception and the staff calls "here you are, folks, take your pick". And 8 people leap off the waiting room chairs; they had been called in from The Kitten Waiting List. Those kittens went out the door minutes after they came in.

changeyerheadworzel · 12/06/2023 15:56

£100 per kitten? I can't get past that.

Bichette · 12/06/2023 16:19

Our local CPL charge £110 for a kitten but they are neutered, chipped, vaccinated and wormed.

LindyLou2020 · 12/06/2023 16:32

We currently have 2 Cats Protection cats, (adopted as kittens), and we've had kittens from them in the past, too, including black/black & white ones.
I think black kittens/cats are as beautiful as any others.
So I can't believe people aren't keen to take them on because they don't look good, but apparently lots of people still think they are harbingers of bad luck 🙄

Eleven?? Take them, you won't even notice.😸

Toddlerteaplease · 13/06/2023 00:26

How many litters has this poor cat had?

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 13/06/2023 00:31

Ohhh gawd I'm in Northamptonshire... But I already have 2! I can't afford any more.

I've just seen that you're charging £100. I got my sister's £45 for both.

They're not cash cows.

mayorofcasterbridge · 13/06/2023 00:41

I paid £75 a year ago for a rescue girl from CP, and £85 for another rescue girl from a local rescue.

More than worth every penny, and the shelters knew that we were genuine cat lovers and weren't going to use them for dog bait!

viques · 13/06/2023 00:56

And a reputable shelter will make sure the kittens are neutered before they go to their new homes.

tattychicken · 13/06/2023 09:40

I have just adopted a kitten from CP, 9 weeks old, chipped, neutered, jabbed, wormed and deflead. We paid £100.
He wasn't there for very long as we snapped him up, had been looking for a while. His brothers and sisters were reserved the same day the adverts went up on the CP website.
Definitely recommend CP.

AnnaMagnani · 13/06/2023 09:55

£100 for a kitten that isn't neutered, chipped or vaccinated? Or pedigree?

That's why you can't find a good home, the good homes are looking only at rescue and kittens there are a bargain.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/06/2023 22:23

As a compromise , when you find would be owners why not suggest you want the £100 to ensure a good home , but they donate it to a Cat Charity (or they pay you and you send it and give them the reciept)

Then you lnpw they've made a financial contribution, the cat charity gets the money and they don't have to find homes

Obviously only works if you trust them.

I have two black CPL cats that are amzing and we think they are Good Luck Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/06/2023 22:24

lnpw -know

crimsonlake · 13/06/2023 22:29

You are charging a lot, from what I have seen black kittens for some reason are the last to go and the cheapest.

GiraffeLaSophie · 13/06/2023 22:33

CurlewKate · 12/06/2023 14:53

If you just want good homes, why are you charging £100?

It (hopefully) stops:

a) people using them for evil purposes such as dog baiting
b) people getting them on a whim without properly thinking about it
c) people who can’t actually afford to keep a pet but want one anyway. If you can’t afford £100 then you can’t afford a cat…

PP mentioned £20. I’m fairly certain you’d be lucky to get a hamster for £20!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/06/2023 22:39

What colour is the kitten you are keeping?
I've noticed on CPL and CH they pair up a black kitten with a multicolour .

(Makes it easier when you can tell the critters apart ) Wink

CandlelightGlow · 20/06/2023 02:02

Ah this is a shame, I live in MK and was looking for a kitten. I have reserved one now but do remember being surprised that the kittens were still available; perhaps for some reason there is a lack of demand in our area right now? Hope they are rehomed quickly!

Gingerkittykat · 20/06/2023 04:00

Are your kittens vaccinated and chipped for £100?

Tockomtele · 20/06/2023 06:17

I'm a registered breeder. It's not great this year. I've only got two litters planned for this year, a litter of 14 weeks old I'm trying to sell for peanuts. Nothing. I think people are worried about finances.

sashh · 20/06/2023 07:52

Contact Cats Protection.

They have foster homes where kittens / cats live with a family until rehomed.

They might let you become the foster carer for the two you are trying to rehome.

Some people ( me) would say read the room and stop breeding from your cats.
