Why are cats such dicks?

A question that will remain until the end of time.

My 6 month old girl has got into the habit of waking me up every morning at 5am on the dot. She does this by licking my nose and standing on my head.

Why, I hear you ask. She is not hungry, or playful, nor does she want to be let out. She is neither too cold nor too warm. She does it because she CAN.

And when I’m finally wide awake, she gets off me, saunters over to the foot of the bed, curls up and goes back to sleep 😩.

Obligatory photo of the queen of the house.

Cheddar likes to check I'm still alive during the night, by making biscuits and nuzzling my face. Good job she's cute!

What a cat wants to do a cat will do. Humans have no role in their lives beyond being a slave - available at all times to do anything that needs doing. Our lord and lady regard doors as an abomination and which ever side they're is the wrong side.

Burnamer · 04/05/2023 13:40

@Toddlerteaplease I mean if someone woke me up by baking in the middle of the night I’d probably be delighted.

That’s brilliant. You must remove all doors immediately!

This is why ours is shut downstairs at night! (She has all the facilities she needs down there of course, before anyone asks).

JoanOgden · 04/05/2023 13:41

She just loves you 😍

LostCats · 04/05/2023 13:42

@LiliLil does she have a heart marking above her right eye??!!

Maybe she’s waking you so that you fully appreciate her perfection as she sleeps 😁😁

LiliLil · 04/05/2023 14:23

@LostCats yes she does 😍

She doesn’t love me, she tolerates me. She looks at me with pure disdain for the other 23 hours in the day. She’s cute though.

Ours gets shut in the kitchen overnight. She doesn't mind. She has all mod cons in there and her favourite window to stare out of. I really need my sleep and her long washing routine shakes the whole bed!

Babdoc · 04/05/2023 14:47

Not all cats do this! My Madam always sleeps on my bed, but if she fancies nipping out hunting she will slip out silently. I only know she’s gone if I wake at 8am and find her absent.
On the rare occasions when I sleep in until 9, she will sometimes walk up to the head end of the bed and look at me enquiringly, with a quiet miaow. I consider that a reasonable breakfast request, so get up and feed her.

tailinthejam · 04/05/2023 15:09

I am being stared at with disdain by four cats at the moment. It is, apparently, about time they were fed.

Not by my clock it isn't, and that's the one I'm going by. 😂

I have 6 - all asshats!

this 6mth old furbag wakes me up at 5:30 by biting my nose and ears and/or putting his bum on my face - he purrs like a drill and falls back to sleep

Mine jumps up on to my dressing table. Last night she decided to jump directly up from the floor on to the four drawer jewellery box I have on there. Being surprised at the extra height she was attempting she misjudged it, fell back and pulled the box on to the floor which landed upside down, scattering the contents all over the place. So at 2am this morning I was kneeling on the bedroom floor pairing up earrings and retrieving stuff that had rolled/bounced under the dressing table and bed. I’ll admit that in a raised voice I called her a fucking idiot. She gave me a withering look and stalked out. 🤬

Here is the little madam.

Evil but adorable girl!

Motnight · 04/05/2023 16:23

This is my old boy. He likes letting me know that I should be up and about from around 530 am onwards during the summer.

If my dh is sleeping in the other room, Marley jumps on me purring to wake me up. If dh is sleeping next to me, Marley sits at the side of the bed purring loudly still but occasionally swiping me with a paw.

Because they can.

C1N1C · 04/05/2023 16:58

The cat is checking on you because it loves you. It sees you're awake, calms down, and goes back to sleep.

Sorry, you're loved :)

dingit · 04/05/2023 17:00

Mine has a cat sitter while we are on holiday. She has done the same to her, and now I think she has a new mum

Kyse · 04/05/2023 17:22

Just cost me £200 plus to be told his bloods are perfect, I mean we were discussing thyroid treatment costs, possible euthanasia, everything

Him "oops. Oh well"
