Anyone about to talk?

I'm stressing
Ollie cat is in at the vet tomorrow, he's been having idiopathic cystitis for a while

Recently he's been eating, drinking and weeing more as well as more vocal if that's even possible
He has insurance but I have to pay 20% due to his age. I've got a horrible feeling it's not going to be great news. Has anyone had similar with their cat?

It's hard because he's bright but he's not right and I'm wondering if we are reaching the end Sad

How old is he?
My boy had suspected cystitis recently, lots of weeing everywhere including the litter box and elsewhere... I changed his food after a course of antibiotics and he's been fine for the last few months.

Kyse · 03/05/2023 17:19

We don't know is the answer!
Somewhere between 13-16

Is he on wet or dry food? Boys are more prone to urine issues so if he's on dry then I would switch. Hope he's ok.

Kyse · 03/05/2023 17:22

Wet, grain free

Hopefully it's just a 'weird Ollie thing' but I completely understand the horrible feeling of uncertainty. Paws crossed for him, from all at Toddler Towers.

I'm half hoping for that but then it doesn't really give me an answer! Everything I do will be in his best interests

Yes I'm sure you will.
I wonder how long I have with Magic. She's fine in her self but very thin. Bloods were fine in February. But I do wonder if there is something else going on. But my instinct is to leave her be for now.

Florissante · 03/05/2023 18:16

How is Ollie doing? Any news?

Just waiting to see the vet now

She said it wouldn’t be wrong to let him go but again he’s happy and as long as he has more good than bad days
Possibly thyroid or kidney
We've decided to do bloods and go from there

Fingers crossed...

You will know when it's time. Hopefully it's not just yet though. Ollie is my favour social media cat.

I’ve decided see what the bloods say
If normal then potter on and see how he goes
If thyroid then check insurance and treatment costs and quality of life
If kidneys then no idea

I don't want to end up in a scenario where I'm rushing him to out of hours because he's so unwell or something so I would always go a week early than too late

That seems a sensible plan. In the meantime plenty of yoghurt and custard and everything else he bullies you for.

Our cat was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease three years ago. She was put on a vet prescribed special diet and we tried to let her live her best life. She lost more and more weight, became wobbly and drank water every day when she’d never touched it before. She lived 2.5 years after diagnosis until finally she was so weak that she had to be put to sleep. She went immediately as the vet said that she was already very, very weak. She was originally a stray in poor condition who just moved in and the vet estimated her age when she dies as @12.
It was very sad, and we still miss her.
We have now adopted another cat from the RSPCA. Bella is 3, and was hard to home because she was not friendly and was clearly depressed - 18 months in a kennel will do that to you. 6 months in and she’s a lovely, cuddly, friendly, chatty girl. That’s the good thing that came out of the loss of Kitty - she was so lovely we couldn’t live without another cat and we’re able to rescue Bella.

He sends a big smooch. Might be a bit damp as he's just been for a drink out the water feature

Oh, Ollie. I do hope you are just worrying us unnecessarily again.

I have contemplated it might just be a weird Ollie thing because Paws has had too much attention....
having looked at his adoption post, he actually could be 18
