Anyone about to talk?

I'm stressing
Ollie cat is in at the vet tomorrow, he's been having idiopathic cystitis for a while

Recently he's been eating, drinking and weeing more as well as more vocal if that's even possible
He has insurance but I have to pay 20% due to his age. I've got a horrible feeling it's not going to be great news. Has anyone had similar with their cat?

It's hard because he's bright but he's not right and I'm wondering if we are reaching the end Sad

18 is an amazing age.

And damp smooches are always welcome.

He's currently licking a butter wrapper and can't figure how to hold it so is chasing it around the kitchen. Keeps him quiet!

Anyone about to talk?

We had similar with one of our cats, which turned out to be kidney disease, which then over the period of a year caused liver problems. Then he sadly had to be put down. I hope it turns out better for you.🤞

Little git has perfectly normal bloods

Hmm

Oh thank god!

LostCats · 04/05/2023 14:06

So basically he was just messing with you?

Apparently so Confused

She said it could be ageing brain or pain but unlikely pain as he's not hiding or showing signs
So they've recommended a cognitive function supplement to try for a month and possibly a pain relief trial

Nooo! He was between 5-8 when I got him and that was 2013. But he has no teeth and was stray so his age is a mystery

That explains it! About same time as I joined Mumsnet . I do this with colleagues ' children alsô - they remain the same age in my mind as they were when I was first told about them.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/05/2023 17:05

@Words I still have it in my head that my two are five and seven. Then realise they are actually 12 and 13!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/05/2023 17:06

My cats that is. Not children!

I tried to reply yesterday but the app was playing up. Glad Ollie is OK and will be interested to know if the supplements work as one of my 17 years olds keeping miaowing in her sleep (loudly). No apparent distress and she sees the vet regularly as on thyroid meds and steroids for pancreatitis. Our old cat who lived to 20 also used to do this so may just be an old cat thing!

The vet recommended nutramind or aktivait

We don't know is the answer!
Somewhere between 13-16

That’s no age at all. Medication can help
enormously, don’t give up on him.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/05/2023 11:48

His latest antics have really made me laugh this morning. Thanks Ollie!

Kyse · 06/05/2023 22:20

I've chosen to start him on gabapentin to do the pain relief trial
He's meant to have 2 x 25mg but I've done 1 to try and keep him on the lowest dose. Very stoned cat!
He has had less wees today which is positive and not drinking as much...
