Help with grieving cat

Sadly older of our 2 cats died last week peacefully asleep at home
younger cat who is nearly 6 is devastated - they did not seem that close and older cat barely tolerated him at best
He has not eaten much, howls and cries and sits on the spot we found her dead looking very unhappy
he is staying out of house more - when in ge sleeps more but will not go to humans much although he was previously a clingy lap cat
any suggestions?
we are still putting food down and sticking to regular routines, offering treats which are rejected
when he sleeps elsewhere or on ‘the’ spot we will go and stroke and fuss him
any of the felliways worth trying? Could a vet give him any meds temporarily?
it’s so upsetting to witness

Forgot to say yes we have gas but have carbon monoxide monitors

I don't want to scare you but could it be because they don't alert to lower levels? If you tell British Gas, they might come out and check?

How awful for you. Grieve as long as you need. Remember them with sincere affection buy they have not truly left you, as cats leave paw prints on your heart

Oh what a sad ending, what a shock for you! For me, I am hoping natural causes as I would be distraught at the thought of someone deliberately poisoning your beautiful cat.
Take the time you need and rightly grieve for your beautiful cats, you have my sympathy and an unmumsnetty hug💐

Thank you everyone - just realised when I got up this morning and had no one to feed or greet me that this is the first time for 38 years I’ve not had at least one cat - most at one time was 6, but we’ve generally been a 2-3 cat household and when we’ve sadly lost one have introduced another 4-6 months later
This is unbelievably hard
waiting to hear from vet and insurance today about cost and PM options
