After losing Harry on 4th April we’ve really struggled with the emptiness and the cat shaped hole he’s left. He’s my soul cat and no one can ever replace him, but I believe he’s sent us a little furry friend.

Meet Eddie, he’s a 3 year old FIV+ boy who’s at the same rescue that Harry came from. We’ve been approved to adopt him and they’ve agreed to hold him until we’re back from holiday on 5th May.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Harry. I hope that Eddie makes his loss a little more bearable for you. He's gorgeous. What beautiful eyes.

Pixiedust1234 · 20/04/2023 11:55

Oh my...that took me back. My baby girl looked like Eddie, even down to the scar on his/her nose 😯

May you and Eddie (and DH) have a long and happy future together ❤

Defiantlynot41 · 20/04/2023 12:48

He's beautiful, magnificent whiskers. He's landed on his paws coming home to you

So sorry for your loss

I adopted an FIV+ positive boy 2 years ago and he gives us ALL the love.

Flynn welcomes Eddie to the “FIV cats who are now living their best lives” club!

Thank you everyone. I feel a bit disloyal to Harry but I am excited about adopting Eddie.

@user1471548941, Flynn is gorgeous! If you don't mind me asking, has his FIV caused him any problems?

I am sure Harry would want you to use your loving home to give another rescue a home- you are Eddie’s second chance!

Flynn is an indoor cat due to his condition, which I love as it keeps him safe, it just means he needs ALL the attention, ALL of the time (which I also love…).

He arrived with flaky toe beans and a weepy eye which the rescue thought were due to his FIV infection being recent. They were correct, they cleared up in a week or two. There hasn’t been any real impact since- the only difference is if he seems under the weather, he goes straight to the vets for a check up, we don’t hang around for a day or two to see if he gets better on his own- the sooner we give him anti-biotics, the less impact on his immune system. He’s had them once in 2 years for suspected conjunctivitis and a couple of vet trips where they were happy he was healthy- they are always happy to see him sooner rather than later!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/04/2023 16:37

Thanks for that. We have a cat proofed garden so Eddie can have a wander outside if he wants without worrying about other cats.

As Harry got older he had heart failure, CKD and arthritis so we're fairly good at spotting things now! Apparently Eddie is healthy at the moment so fingers crossed we can keep him that way.

Sorry for the loss of Harry. I don’t think it’s disloyal to him to have another cat. I think it’s a tribute to him that you love and miss him so much that you want another cat.
(Almost) welcome home Eddie.

Allergictoironing · 20/04/2023 17:48

We all loved Harry (though of course not as much as you did), but this new boy needed someone like you. And his looks are sooo different from Harry's, makes it clear you're not replacing your soul cat.

Seems like we're starting a trend of getting tabbys when we lose our boys this year...

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/04/2023 19:25

Congrats Pink. Only slightly worried here 😹.

You've scared me now Grumpy. I wonder if you can cancel a cat adoption...

@YetAnotherSpartacus Your boy is gorgeous. I remember you commenting on Harry's belly. Sadly it was never available for smooshing. I tried many times and still bear the scars! I will report back on Eddie's belly in due course

Just caught up on your threads and I’m so pleased Eddie will be joining you.

we lost our girl DC two months ago. It was dreadful and we didn’t know how to feel - we just knew it wasn’t a home without a cat.
the guilt was there, it was so soon, but the rescue had a lad who was perfect for us apparently.

He came home less than two weeks since we lost our girl. We got her ashes back 2 days after. When we got her back there was something healing about it. Her urn resembles our new cat - it was picked before we even decided to get another cat. It was meant to be, I guess.

he’s not the same as her at all. He’s younger, SO different natured and it helped. No one can replace our late cat, but we can give our love to another who needs it

nettie434 · 21/04/2023 02:15

Eddie is a handsome fellow and I like his name. He looks as if he will be a good companion. I hope you enjoy your holiday too.

sausage767 · 21/04/2023 02:19

Harry would approve, I know it. 😘
