So worried about my cat

LittleLillie · 09/01/2023 22:52

I’ve posted about my 11 month cat before, name changed for this as I’ve posted about her on Facebook tonight and don’t want linking to other posts.

I inherited her from a relative a couple of months ago, had her booked in to be spayed but she came into season at the end of November and it was postponed, she was on heat mid December also. Spay re-booked for Wednesday this week.

About a week ago, all of her mammary glands became enlarged, I had a huge panic that she had got out (and back in!) without me noticing while she was on heat and was pregnant. Went to the vets Friday who said that he could not feel a pregnancy and that by her presentation it was almost as though she was lactating and he would say she had recently given birth. Absolutely not the case, she has not been out the house and there are definitely no kittens here. Plus she has last been on heat less than a month ago, that wouldn’t happen if she was pregnant surely? Anyway, she was well in herself and vet said we would continue with the plan to spay on Wednesday.

She has gone off her food this weekend, last ate properly on Saturday evening and spent most of yesterday asleep. She was sick today, a small amount of yellow bile, so I’ve gone back to the vets tonight. The new vet checked her over and took her temperature, all seemed fine. She had never seen anything like the swelling before, and consulted the vet that we saw on Friday who said the same and also that he thought that the swelling had increased. All glands seem affected.

We are back tomorrow morning for sedation, bloods and a full scan/X-ray but I am so worried about my little friend and can’t stop crying. It sounds silly but I’m terrified this is my last night with her.

Shes eaten some dreamies tonight, no food and I can’t give her anything now because of the sedation tomorrow. She’s just not herself and won’t even come up to bed for a cuddle.

I don’t know if anyone’s got any advice, or experienced similar? I’m really scared 😞

I'm so sorry. Such a beautiful cat and so young. It's heartbreaking.

DomesticShortHair · 13/01/2023 07:42

Sleep well, little girl. No more pain now. My heart goes out to you and your family. X

Schnoodle · 13/01/2023 08:31

So sorry to hear of your feline friend passing.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/01/2023 15:11

I'm so sorry, I know how much it hurts to lose them. She was so young as well no one could have predicted this.

Honeyroar · 13/01/2023 15:58

Oh I’m so sorry. What a lovely girl she was. Your love for her shines out of your posts, and you did everything possible to help her. Hugs to you all.

LittleLillie · 13/01/2023 19:00

Thank you all.

I feel absolutely devastated and my house is so quiet without her. It was all just so sudden. I can’t even bring myself to clear away the food she didn’t eat yesterday 😞

hope you feel a bit better tomorrow

FlosCampi · 13/01/2023 22:38

I'm so sorry. Look at all your photos and remember all the happy, silly, furry love you all had. You gave her a lovely life with you, and though it was so so short, her life didn't end in pain, she would have just drifted away with the morphine. A short life but so smiley and happy and bringing joy, like the short life of a flower. Thinking of you.

Whiskeypowers · 13/01/2023 23:05

So sorry. She was absolutely beautiful ♥️

burninglikefire · 14/01/2023 09:45

Sorry for your loss - she had a good home with you and would have known she was loved.

JT69 · 14/01/2023 09:50

I’m devastated for you. She was so loved and you did all you could for her. She enjoyed a short but lovely life with you. 💐

devildeepbluesea · 14/01/2023 09:52

GizaBiza · 14/01/2023 10:00

What a beautiful little tabby girl. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Florissant · 14/01/2023 10:38

OP, I am so sorry to hear the news. I know how heartbreaking it is so you have all of my sympathy.

maranella · 14/01/2023 10:44

I'm so sorry for your loss OP - what a devastating thing to happen to such a beautiful and young cat. As I read this thread I was so hopeful that she was going to be okay and then the devastating news that she didn't make it. Sending you Flowers

Pudmyboy · 14/01/2023 11:02

@LittleLillie I have just read this thread: what a rollercoaster, and such sadness at the end, but as many have said, she was loved, and the pics showed her relaxed and happy, and you did everything you could, as soon as you saw any changes. Cat-shaped holes are hard to fill 💐💐

FrostyBits · 14/01/2023 11:04

I'm so sorry OP. Have just read your thread. You must be devastated, it's all so quick. It sounds like you adored her and did everything you could. Cats are funny creatures, they wheedle their way into your affections and leave huge holes in your heart when they go. Sending you hugs.

TwigsAndPebblyShit · 14/01/2023 11:12

I'm so sorry, you all must be so devastated.

RIP little puss, you were loved xx

thaegumathteth · 14/01/2023 11:15

I'm so so sorry OP.

LittleLillie · 14/01/2023 11:34

Thank you all, I feel like you understand.

Ive just had to clear her food and cat litter away, I couldn’t bring myself to do it yesterday. I hate being at home, it’s so empty. She was my little shadow, even when I was in the bath she would sit on the side or the back, i WFH so she was next to me or on my lap the whole day. I just feel so lost really.

I feel really guilty today, i don’t think her swelling was hormonal after all. Either that or there were too things going on at the same time it just seems too much of a coincidence. The vet was originally going to scan and X-ray her on Tuesday but because they thought they had diagnosed they didn’t. I wish I’d have pushed for those, maybe the fluid would have been picked up if I had.

So worried about my cat

Florissant · 14/01/2023 11:38

What a cutie!

Give yourself time to mourn and then, possibly, consider getting another cat.

LittleLillie · 14/01/2023 11:50

@Florissant i would love another. I could never replace Lily and I feel guilty for even considering it but we’ve got so much love to give and I really miss the laughter and lightness in the house already

DadANDPK · 14/01/2023 11:56

Lovely photo! You definitely need to frame it, without the black out!!

take care of yourself x

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/01/2023 12:05

She was very young so it must’ve been something catastrophically bad to take her so quickly.

Its ok to get another cat, your not replacing her you’re giving a cat a home.

Our rescue girls a great little cat.
