So worried about my cat

I’ve posted about my 11 month cat before, name changed for this as I’ve posted about her on Facebook tonight and don’t want linking to other posts.

I inherited her from a relative a couple of months ago, had her booked in to be spayed but she came into season at the end of November and it was postponed, she was on heat mid December also. Spay re-booked for Wednesday this week.

About a week ago, all of her mammary glands became enlarged, I had a huge panic that she had got out (and back in!) without me noticing while she was on heat and was pregnant. Went to the vets Friday who said that he could not feel a pregnancy and that by her presentation it was almost as though she was lactating and he would say she had recently given birth. Absolutely not the case, she has not been out the house and there are definitely no kittens here. Plus she has last been on heat less than a month ago, that wouldn’t happen if she was pregnant surely? Anyway, she was well in herself and vet said we would continue with the plan to spay on Wednesday.

She has gone off her food this weekend, last ate properly on Saturday evening and spent most of yesterday asleep. She was sick today, a small amount of yellow bile, so I’ve gone back to the vets tonight. The new vet checked her over and took her temperature, all seemed fine. She had never seen anything like the swelling before, and consulted the vet that we saw on Friday who said the same and also that he thought that the swelling had increased. All glands seem affected.

We are back tomorrow morning for sedation, bloods and a full scan/X-ray but I am so worried about my little friend and can’t stop crying. It sounds silly but I’m terrified this is my last night with her.

Shes eaten some dreamies tonight, no food and I can’t give her anything now because of the sedation tomorrow. She’s just not herself and won’t even come up to bed for a cuddle.

I don’t know if anyone’s got any advice, or experienced similar? I’m really scared 😞

Oh you poor thing, you’re going through the wringer. Hope she gets better soon.

SallyWD · 12/01/2023 22:21

Poor thing! I really hope she pulls through. You must be so worried.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 12/01/2023 22:49

Sending you prayers and positive thoughts. Hope she pulls through ❤️

They’ve just called me.

Shes taken a turn for the worse, she’s bringing up bloody fluid and they think it’s from her chest. They’re doing everything they can to drain it, but they’ve told me she’s a very poorly cat and to prepare for the worst.

She’ll be so frightened, I’m going to lose her 😭💔

I'm so so sorry. It's awful. I know how you're feeling. My boy was taken to the vet in the Summer and he never came home. He wasn't himself but they found a tumour in his mouth when he was under anaesthetic and I felt it was kinder for him to go whilst under and not have to suffer treatment.
I cried solidly for 3 days. I did use the pet bereavement line and they were brilliant.
I'm sure your girl had a great life with you. Xx

I’m so sorry, I know how heartbreaking this is and how shocking and confusing it is when it’s so sudden. She will have known how loved she was Flowers

DadANDPK · 13/01/2023 06:37

I've only just seen your thread. I'm SO sorry. She's the spitting image of my girl who I lost 13 years ago this week. Same week I lost my Dad & they were best buddy's .

Obviously no idea how you came to rehome her, but if she had been mine originally I'd be thankful that you'd looked after her so very well 🌷

Your poor kids!! But usually kids are pretty pragmatic & sometimes they say the weirdest things.

look after yourself today xx
