Hi, I've adopted a kitten and she'll be ready to come to us in just under 3 weeks. I've not told my son as want her to be a surprise and also I don't want him asking every 5 minutes when we are getting her! She's currently with a foster carer to free up space in the cat sanctuary. I've received these photos of her and just had to share them 😻. It's so hard to keep her a secret from my son! She's called Sushi (my son's favourite food and cats like fish 🤷🏻‍♀️😄).
Has any one got any tips on helping her to settle in or anything else you found useful? Thank you 😊
The picture of her being held was when she was a week old, she's now 5 weeks old.

She's adorable! Congratulations on the little darling :)

As for tips.. kittens are sharp, be prepared 😂

Dragonskin · 26/09/2022 14:50

Awwwww look at her standing in her bowl 😍

Pineappleamy · 26/09/2022 14:52

We need more pictures :) Three just isn't enough. She's adorable.

How old is your son? You need to make sure he understands how to handle a kitten.
Very cute though - I had a cat named Sushi and she lived til 23!

Flamingle18 · 26/09/2022 16:28

Thank you 😊. Here are some pictures of her with her siblings and mum. So adorable!

My son is almost 10 and very gentle with animals. He was amazing at looking after our old cat who died when she was 19 and we have a Tenrec (picture also attached as these are quite rare!) who is small and he handles her so carefully. How funny re: another Sushi and what a great age!

they bring so much joy!

custardbear · 26/09/2022 17:05

Aawww gorgeous! Few tips as if not had kittens fir ages before my two crazy bears arrived.
Blinds! I've not put my expensive blinds down since getting our kittens almost 10 months ago 😉🥰

Also a fishing rod toy are great, and dreamies!
If you have a cat feeder too that's good to use at night so she doesn't wake you up for food

custardbear · 26/09/2022 17:06

Oh felispray too and something to cuddle like a teddy

custardbear · 26/09/2022 17:07

..... although I got two in close succession so we're their own teddy bears
This is a pic our two boys with our puppy

Don't forget a cardboard box for her to sleep in instead of that fancy bed you might be tempted to purchase😅

Flamingle18 · 26/09/2022 17:42

Thank you @custardbear! Your cats and dogs are adorable!

@Sweetpea1532 I bought a coffee table with a cat bed underneath. If a cardboard box is preferred I can use it as blanket storage 😆. I also got a box that fits in an Ikea kallax unit but with an opening and cushion so she can sleep in there!

Having had a kitten as an ‘only kitten’ and then many years later getting two siblings together, if you can afford it I would really consider getting two kittens. The two that came together are much gentler than the single as think they must learn cat manners off each other and they also spent a lot of time playing together and still do even as almost seniors, so think they’re probably happier. I would be interested if others have found the same. She’s a super cutie :)

Aww stunning, and glad she's landed on all four paws with a forever home.
My tip: set up a kitten safe room (ideally not kitchen) to help her settle in her new territory. I'd block any low hidey places instead give her lots of safe high spaces to escape and view her new territory in confidence. When you introduce her to new rooms you can rub some of her scent on items so it smells familiar. Just take a clean towel and rub gently on either her cheeks, paws or sides and rub on a few items in the room, door frames etc. She may be frightened or she could be like mine and have zero fear from day one. I also recommend both horizontal and vertical scratch posts or cardboard scratchers.

Mrsfussypants1 · 26/09/2022 17:55

Ahh crost post, see you've already posted some lovely hidey spots.

Flamingle18 · 26/09/2022 17:55

@BumbleBee92 I'd love to have 2 but sadly not doable at the moment. I've started volunteering at the cat sanctuary a couple of hours a week so no doubt in the future I'll end up with more 😀

She's gorgeous - your son will be over the moon!!

My main advice is that it's really worth it IMO to buy good quality cat food - usually sold in pet shops rather than supermarkets and about 85% meat (compared to 4% with most supermarket brands).

Blueberrycreampie · 26/09/2022 19:23

I really really want that little black cat with the smudgie nose, sure he's a boy - or maybe the upside down one at the back. Must stop looking at cats!

Flamingle18 · 26/09/2022 20:48

Thank you @Ticksallboxes , I'll have a look at some local pet shops and we have a local raw pet food shop too.

@Blueberrycreampie I love that one too! It is a male and we wanted a female. The ginger one is upside down a lot 😄
