What times do you feed your cats?

My neutered male is 7 months old so he is still having three meals a day at the moment at 7am ish, 3pm and 8:30pm (approx).

I'm not sure he will be too happy if this eventually changes to once a day, but I'm hoping to cut out the afternoon meal before he's a year old.

How often do you feed your babies?

Mine have dry food out all the time, but I made a critical mistake and started feeding them wet food when we got up in the morning. Which of course means that boycat comes to get me when he considers it time I got up (not girlcat, she's much more polite and waits). If I did it over I'd feed wet before bedtime.

Then through the day, if girlcat asks (she sits by the bowl and trills at me if I walk by) then I'll give her a little more food or a jelly/past pack (whilst looking around desperately to see where her brother is and bolting it down before he appears!) - if boycat hears the rattle of the packet he's straight down from my bedroom (I hear the thump as he gets off the bed) and they both have one.

3 year old sisters- pouch each at 7.30ish, depending if they’ve eaten it all or not 1 or 2 pouches between them sometime between 3-6 then dry food when we go to bed 10ish. They graze on the dry all day if they don’t approve of the wet (4 brands on rotation).

NancyDrooo · 22/09/2022 21:08

Mine won’t eat wet food or meat so there is dry food out all day and he grazes. A small bowl of tuna about three times a week. Loves cheese occasionally, tiny amounts. Insects. Half a shrew if he can be arsed to hunt. Bedtime chew stick.

When they tell me to, I am their slave after all 🤷🏻‍♀️

Same. They are fed demand.

FannyFifer · 22/09/2022 21:10

Any time her highness requests to be fed.

hedwigismyowl · 22/09/2022 21:11

2 of them, wet food when we get up ~7:30am and 8pm and if the 8pm is late, the big girl starts loudly demanding it. Free feed biscuits all day, and treats once a day.

CatLadyDrinksGin · 22/09/2022 21:11

They’ve had three breakfasts before now by telling several people that they’ve not been fed. When dh and I went away and left them with two teens they got two breakfasts every day by convincing both they’d not been fed.

MrsMigginsCat · 22/09/2022 21:12

Madame has a pouch at 7am and dry food at 5pm. She's 13 and was getting a bit portly so she's on a a diet. Any more than that and she sicks it up during the night on the lounge rug. That's always a nice treat to come down in the dark to and step on

Tubbyinthehottub · 22/09/2022 21:13

7am and 6:15pm

TwoBlueFish · 22/09/2022 21:13

pouch if wet at breakfast and tea time. Top up dry before we go to bed. He’s also a hunter and gets several mice a week. He’s nearly 7.

Airymanning · 22/09/2022 21:15

There is breakfast, 2nd breakfast, morning snack, elevenses, lunch, 2nd lunch, afternoon snack, tea, high tea, dinner, snack, supper, bedtime treat.

😳

That made me laugh so much. They really do have hollow legs 😂

smelters · 22/09/2022 21:19

Wet food pouch for breakfast around 6.30am
Half a wet food pouch for tea around 4.30pm
Dry biscuits for supper around 10pm, then they are shut in for the night

dementedpixie · 22/09/2022 21:21

Breakfast sometime

Blueberrycreampie · 22/09/2022 21:21

9.00 am, 5.00pm and 10.00 pm - a full pouch of Felix every time. She also has biscuits but isn't really bothered about them. She's 11.

Snozzlemaid · 22/09/2022 21:22

Our dcat is very petite and doesn't eat a lot. She's the only cat I've had that doesn't ever ask for food.
She has a tiny portion of Sheba wet food in the morning, when I remember. She won't ask for it and doesn't often eat it all.
She then has biscuits down which she grazes from all day.
She was 2.5 kg when we rescued her. That went up to 3kg after moving in with us and she goes between 2.8 and 3kg now.

Breakfast sometime

Between 7 and 9am ish depending what day it is - they get wet food. Sometimes more at lunchtime if someone is about and then dinner at 6ish probably.

Dry food left out all day

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/09/2022 21:23

Whenever their bowls are empty.

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 22/09/2022 21:23

When he comes in the morning, and when he comes in the evening. Rarely see him in between times in the summer. In winter he'll be on the radiator or someone's bed.

Morning is between 8-9am, evenings is around 6-7pm. He usually asks to come in when and be fed when our dinner is ready - in the hope we'll give him some of our food usually.

megacat · 22/09/2022 21:24

I don't understand how anyone gets away with feeding their cat less than 4 times a day?

Once a day is far too little though. Personally I think twice is tight. I have 3 meals a day why shouldn't cats?

RandomMess · 22/09/2022 21:24

Mine has just been hanging off the price of toast I'm eating FFS 🙄

Nanny67 · 22/09/2022 21:25

whirlyhead 😂😂😂

Chewbecca · 22/09/2022 21:27

Dry food is out all the time and is never empty.

A half of one of the tiny wet food pouches if she is good taking her medicine - trying to train her to take nicely and it seems to be working well.

But what we mustn't forget is all the extra snacks - yoghurt whenever anyone eats it, a little bit saved and fed of any piece of meat or fish we eat. Baked bean juice. A chunk of cheese, tuna ton or bit of cold meat is dropped whenever I am preparing food. It's neverending!

DeathMetalMum · 22/09/2022 21:33

Dry always available and then cat's share a pouch between them at 7am/pm. Fresh dry food put out at the same time. Dp gets up early for work several days a week and tops up the dry food. Because of this I often don't feed them until around 8am on a Sunday.

JoanOgden · 22/09/2022 21:36

Breakfast (half a pouch) at 7.30. Then if I'm around the other half pouch at lunchtime when she asks for it; if I'm going to the office or otherwise out I leave it in her bowl before I go. Second smaller pouch at 6ish. Small serving of dry food available all day - she doesn't particularly like it (it's special insect-based eco cat food) so only eats it when she's actually hungry. Lick-e-lix between meals if she's looking particularly pathetic.
