Apparently I opened the wrong door.

Apparently I opened the wrong door for him to come through. Sat there for ages. I’m in a bungalow. So I was hanging out an open window that he always climbs through as well. Oh to be a cat

Apparently I opened the wrong door.

My ginger boy used to see that it was raining at the front door and would go to the back door instead. I'm sure he was expecting it to not be raining at the back door.

Maddie 😁

I love all these cat stories . I was never really a cat lover....though I thought they were cute. I never had any interactions with one either . Until....the arrival of Mr Darcy the gentleman cat. During lockdown my son broke up with his then partner. He asked if it was ok to come home for a while. I said of course he could....then he dropped the bombshell...he had custody of the cat and could he come too. I just couldn't say no....and here we are almost two years later and they're still here. And I've turned into a devoted cat slave .....I absolutely adore the manipulative, conniving wee crearure....( the cat btw...not ds...though he's alright too 😁)
The door stories made me laugh. Mr Darcy is a house cat but what makes me chuckle is how he just sits in front of a closed door....he just KNOWS some lackey will be along soon to open it. Sometimes he will wait...and wait....and wait....and then once the door is opened he will just look in...put his nose in the air and walk away. The best was shortly after he came here. I was having a cuppa in the dining room and I'd closed the kitchen door as I'd just brought a chicken out of the oven. He is an excellent chicken rustler! He walked to the door, stood on his hind legs and nice as you like put a paw on the handle and just opened the door. I was gobsmacked. He is adorable though and so affectionate .

A couple of my cats used to go to a house up the road for a second breakfast. The elderly couple would open the window and put a saucer of Felix with some ham or chicken on top. Apparently if they didn't put the meat on top, my cats would look at them and not eat the food until it was prepared to their satisfaction.

One of the same cats, who was known as "she" and "pretty face" by all the neighbours (he's a boy and lost most his fur although it's growing back now, but certainly is no longer a pretty face) will shout at me for food, usually when I'm on a Teams call. Often there will already be good in the kitchen but he never goes to check first. Instead he shouts till I get up and start to follow him, then he stops every few steps and looks back to check I'm still following him. I have to go into the kitchen and wait till he starts eating. If I come back into the lounge before he starts eating, he'll cry until either one of the other cats or I go back out to keep him company 🙄

What is it with cats and roast chicken? They can smell it from hundreds of yards away, and I feel like I've taken on the role of the Pied Piper of Hamelin (Feline Edition) when I'm trying to carve unmolested.

The window was not open, he was outraged
Never mind that he is not in fact my cat and doesn't live here

Apparently I opened the wrong door.

Our cat operates a one way system. He only ever enters the house through the back door cat flap and leaves through the front door. This requires a butler to open the front door for him.
If he meets someone entering by the front door he won’t be enticed in but nips around the back and in through the back door cat flap and is ready to greet them in the hall as they emerge through the front door.
If he can’t meet them because the kitchen door into the hall is closed he is black affronted and sulks. (For hours).

This one made me laugh. Why do cats always want a holiday home?

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2022 18:30

We didn’t domesticate cats, they moved in. They can move out too.

Daleksatemyshed · 14/07/2022 18:49

My cat won't come through doors, living room window only because otherwise she would have to walk on the floor! For some reason she's playing "off ground" all the time, she travels from window sill to coffee table to sofa. She was a stray and adopted us so she's a mystery all round

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 14/07/2022 19:19

Mine adopted me eight years ago as well. Stole my heart. He is my little twinkle toes.

Two of ours disappear every time the weather is nice. I strongly suspect they're embracing their inner leopard and living in the trees and bushes behind the house.

It's so predictable that when it happens we just say 'R and G have moved out to the summer residence' and we just check on the cat flap app that they're coming in overnight for food if we haven't seen them.

Once it rains or the temperature drops below about 18 degrees they reappear like they've never been away.

We also have a 'one way' cat. She won't stoop to the indignity of using a cat flap and will stand by the front door and utter tiny meows until someone lets her out.

When she wants to come back in she bangs on the back window where my WFH desk is.

Unusually, both DP and I were out at work for over 12 hours today and they didn't get their afternoon meal, which they expect at 4 pm and not a minute later, until well after 6 today, so I'm still waiting to see how we'll be punished for that misdemeanor.

Brutally I suspect 😁

I’m here to say goodbye to you all. Yesterday I was outside with the cat when my husband came home from work. I picked the cat up and waved her paw hi at him. I’m doomed.
i did tell her it was his idea but I’m pretty sure she didn’t buy it. ☠️

It's been nice knowing you @Wolfiefan .Wink

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/07/2022 15:08

Well that was just silly. Tortoiseshells do not wave a paw to anyone.

Daleksatemyshed · 15/07/2022 15:16

Bye bye @Wolfiefan , I hope it's quick

Solosunrise · 15/07/2022 15:16

That is so funny @Paranoidandroidmarvin 🤣This thread has made my day!
I too have a cat who has to check all exits because convinced there'll be one where it's not raining outside.
Unlike our late dog, who knew raining without even leaving his bed, and would have to be turfed out for a pee!
Ancient cat is still insistent that her heated bed stays on, despite the current heatwave.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 15/07/2022 15:17

😢 Wolfiefan I'm going to miss you. You helped get me and Leroy together.

I hope you are shown a little mercy and your demise is swift. Good luck.

Wolfiefan · 15/07/2022 15:17

Of course it won’t be quick. 🤣

FangsForTheMemory · 16/07/2022 17:20

I used to spend ages waiting for mine to come in the back door before working out he's more likely to come in the front. The bugger.

I swapped our ancient cat's cosy blankie for a cooling pad as she has very thick fur and I was concerned about her getting heat stroke.

She climbed on top of the drawers where I moved her cosy blankie to and continued to sleep on it, which is no mean feat at 15 YO.
