Anyone else's cat lets the world know their up at 4am?

WildFlowerBees · 09/02/2022 21:20

Boy cat will come in at 4am and declare 'I'm home! I've had a poo, anyone up? Hello? HELLO!'

This has been going on for years, I could wear earplugs but I don't find them very comfortable or they pop out at night. Dh sleeps through the whole thing.

Is it just my cat? His sister doesn't do it just him.

I stayed at my friends house at the week end. At 3 am his cat opened the door and loudly announced her presence. I almost had hear failure! Cheddar likes a cuddle several times a night but doesn't shout.

threestars · 10/02/2022 00:10

Yes. And God help the household if it's been raining. He won't quieten down until he's had a rundown with a towel. I blame the parents...

StarbucksSmarterSister · 10/02/2022 02:01

Yep. Every bloody night.

SalsaLove · 10/02/2022 02:47

Yep. He will stand at the bottom of the stairs and shout up until I acknowledge him and tell him he’s fine. If it’s been raining he will jump on the bed to share his wet fur with me. 😆

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 10/02/2022 02:55

Mine isn’t noisy at night but does start singing the song of her people at about 5pm. She has been asleep all sodding day and now wants attention. Me, on the other hand, wants to make dinner. Moving hot things or sharp things around whilst trying not to drop things on her or stand on her.

Somuddled · 10/02/2022 04:00

Do you reply? When ours do this, i give them either a good strong meow back (if dh is home) or a 'yes hello I'm in bed' if I am alone. This sppear to satisfy them.

DartmoorChef · 10/02/2022 04:03

No cat, just a dog who no matter how late you let him out before bed will come and tap gently on your forehead at 3am because he wants a wee. Then races past you up the stairs to get into your nice warm spot in the bed

SprayItOnMe · 10/02/2022 04:05

Not a cat but I have to get up every single night to let me elderly Jack Russell into the garden for a wee whilst I wait in the freezing kitchen for 15 mins. Just back with ice block feet and saw your post.

MallampatiCatty · 10/02/2022 04:31

Interestingly, no. Our cat is v v vocal, particularly in the evening when she wakes up ready for fuss but she knows it's pointless at 4am. We leave a small gap in the door to our room and she does often sleep on our chair in the corner, but no. I've never been woken up by her announcing herself at that time. She knows it wouldn't get her anywhere so what's the point I suppose. Don't give her any ideas though Grin

DontKeepTheFaith · 10/02/2022 05:24

Yep, 5 am is her normal wake up time and she lets us know loudly that she likes company!
She sleeps all day and then wants us up early so we can sit downstairs while she goes in the garden.

She’s an adorable shitbag😍 Good job we love her to bits.

Simonjt · 10/02/2022 05:50

Yes, she has now however timed it perfectly so she screams her head off once the baby is finally asleep and when we’re both nodding off. The cat screaming her head off then wakes up the dog who decides he needs a wee, he obviously can’t just go out and wee, he has to spend ages finding the perfect spot.

It’s a good job she is as cute as she is! Little bugger.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/02/2022 13:36

If our rescue girl decides dh has shortchanged her on the 9pm dreamies she caterwauls at 3am so he can make up the deficit. When he opens the door to check she’s not dying she runs into our bedroom & you can’t see her as she’s black on the top half.

I sleep through the whole thing.

Namechangenumber23 · 10/02/2022 13:41

Our cat starts by sitting across my sons feet from about 5am, if no response will slowly move up his body until a response* is given. If left she will literally splay across his face Grin

*nothing short of a full belly rub and cheek scratch

AwkwardPaws27 · 10/02/2022 13:47

Nope - boy cat puts himself to bed (in the bed he stole from the dog) around midnight. Girl cat is tucked up on my pillow from around 9pm - but does come and screech at us that is past our bedtimes if we aren't up by 11ish.

We have a curfew on the catflap so they can't go out between 10pm-8am.

Plump82 · 10/02/2022 20:31

Boy cat will launch himself on to the end of my bed and walk up the length of me rather than on the bed. He'll have a good pad, normally round my neck before settling on my shoulder for 10 mins of cuddles, then he hops up and starts batting things off the bedside table. Every morning without fail. By morning though I mean any time between 2am and 5am 🥴 his sister is as good as gold and sleeps soundly all night. My old cat was same as current boy cat so I've had this for nearly 20 years!!!

CovidCorvid · 10/02/2022 20:34

My 2yo cat has just started this the last few nights. I’m not impressed.

Mellowyellow222 · 10/02/2022 21:57

Yep my monster does this every bloody night.

I live in a semi detached and I worry she will wake the neighbours - although they assure me they can’t hear her!!!

She just wants me to be awake - doesn’t need food. I have found cat tv in the iPad entertains her!!

IsItTooHotInHere · 10/02/2022 22:50

My old boy gets under the duvet with me at 5.30-ish, and stays there until he's warm, then settles down again for an hour before wanting to go outside.

mowly77 · 11/02/2022 00:19

Yes, and especially loudly and delightedly if she has brought me a present. The pre-dawn hours being a traditional gift-giving time in cat land. Sadly it is always a mouse and never a box of chocolates.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/02/2022 01:04

5am , MaleCat leaps onto our bed with a Brrr
Walks on us ( he's heavy for such a slender cat)
Purrs and drools - once he sat on me , I got his cold spit in my mouth

FemaleCat sleeps where she likes , bed of choice now is my DS guitar case . Black Case Black Cat . But no 5am malarky

WildFlowerBees · 11/02/2022 06:17

He'll also jump on me to get to dh, he adores dh and loves to sleep on his chest. If he's hungry and patting dh face doesn't work he then climbs onto my pillow and yanks my hair out.

We've made a rod for our own backs, should've kept them out of the bedroom when we got them 11 years ago. I'm a fully trained slave now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/02/2022 06:20

Our Bengal used to walk over dh to get to me, he managed to tread on dhs sensitive parts 9/10. Dh swore blind he knew what he was doing.

Pr1mr0se · 14/02/2022 13:00

Yes. Sounds familiar. I have an old boy but I know of other girl cats who do this too. 3 am every morning: Haaaalloooww! Mine wants me to feed him and stay with him in the kitchen whilst he eats it whether or not there is already food in the bowl. I refuse. He then comes to bed and sits on my pillow purring his fishy breathe at me.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 14/02/2022 19:45

No - ours have all been shut downstairs overnight since the day they came home. They're 1, 5 and 6 now and that's their routine, though fatcat will bang on the stairs door if we're not awake and at his service by around 9am Grin
