Kitten fell from bedroom window today

Such a shock. Literally haven’t opened an upstairs window since we got him but I shook a rug out of it this morning and forgot to close it .

He fell onto a heating unit thing below with massive crash

Rushed to vet, who examined and did obs and said he seemed ok to come home . He had a tiny bit of tuna when he got in with painkiller in but has since been asleep under dd’s bed

I’ve beem checking him
Obv and he kind of purrs and rolled over a bit when I stroke him
But otherwise v subdued

I’ll take him back tomorrow but is that soon enough? Is it normal he’s
Just wanting to tuck himself away ?

Thanks (

One of ours fell out of the upstairs window as a kitten. She landed on her feet and was more embarrassed than anything else

Hope yours is ok.

My cat fell from the upstairs window as a kitten too. Left them open by accident after cleaning. You're not alone.

He fell the full 2 story's but was completely fine, I don't think we even went to the vets!

Angryattrackandtrace · 14/01/2022 21:56

My cat jumped out a neighbours bedroom window just before Christmas. Took him took him to the vet and they gave him a little painkiller. He slept much more than usual and just stayed in 1 spot overnight. Think the painkiller was what wore him out. He was gingerly walking around the next day but then was out and about the day after. Hope your little baby is ok x

Serena2016 · 14/01/2022 21:58

Thanks all

Yeah he had some painkiller and anti- inflammatory earlier

Feel like am not gonna get much sleep tonight ! Wish he wanted to sleep on my bed but he is in his fave room (under my daughter ‘s bed ) whee he always sleeps (she’s on sleepover, I will prob sleep in her bed actually !)

My cat fell from our first floor balcony a few years ago.I heard the thud of her hitting the ground and also ran down expecting to be met with an awful sight .She was pretty dazed but otherwise seemed ok.I brought her to the Vet in an awful panic .She was thankfully fine .The vet did tell me though that the greatest danger in cats falling is when the cats bladder is full as it can burst . That would be obvious from the outset and it was the first thing that he checked.I know how you feel but if your little fella is purring then he is probably just a little shaken.

Oh yes the vet checked bladder a lot and was happy with it

Thank god he had been out and about since like 6am, came back in 8.30am and jumped or fell out of window the moment I started a work call

Cats are designed to fall safely and well known to always land on their feet

My cat jumped out of the upstairs window frequently as a kitten (yours might have jumped too if the garden looked attractive). He was fine.

Bakewelltart987 · 14/01/2022 22:03

Years back I couldn't find my kitten anywhere in the house 1 window was open upstairs not wide just on the latch so I checked my garden there he was hiding in a Bush he must of fell or jumped no idea but was absolutely fine.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 14/01/2022 22:05

I once had my sisters kittens to stay and looked up to see all three of them (mine and hers) on the windowsill nudging each other as if daring each other to jump 😮 only mine did though! He was fine...

Serena2016 · 14/01/2022 22:09

Ha these are making me laugh !

He’s def not himself but hopefully just a bit bruised (and ego?!)

@Serena2016 well my neighbour saw him jump. They walked upstairs saw him, called to him and then he looked at them
And jumped out apparently. He’s cute but not the sharpest tool in the shed 🤷🏻‍♀️

ffscovid · 14/01/2022 22:14

Mine fell off the roof the first week we let her out (she was about 5.5 months!). There was a strange rumble and then a thud when she landed. She was a bit spooked but absolutely fine.
If he's had painkillers, they might be making him a bit sleepy perhaps?

Omg !!! Bet they felt so guilty !

He didn’t really have much painkiller - I had some at home
From a recent injury he had from chewing the Christmas tree fake pine cones so vet said to use that on his food

So he only had a few bites of tuna and painkiller earlier before he went under the bed

Mine jumped out of the first floor bathroom window when she was around 8-10 weeks old (soon after we got her). My neighbour knocked on the door as he’d come out of his house and heard her meowing furiously outside the front of our house. We were at the back of the house and had no idea! No other way she could have got out there other than the bathroom window which was open as we weren’t letting her out at that stage.

She was absolutely fine and 6 years later. she’s a very active climber and jumper.

She gets extremely stressed out going in the car to the vets though and normally hides away and is very sleepy afterwards. Your cat may be overtired with the fall, the vets visit and the pain medication.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 14/01/2022 22:21

I saw one on Instagram that fell the other day and is fine, he slept for a long time
Here. He fell 15ft

Yeah think he is so tired . He had a really start today as I woke up early and let him out .

He looks so bleary eyed when he is even a bit tired lol

He's probably a little bit bruised and and a bit shocked. Probably needs to rest in a dark, quiet place. If you're still worried take him back tomorrow.
Cats anatomy is arranged so that they can jump/fall from heights without incurring injuries as their ligaments are quite loose.
My cat used to jump from a first floor balcony on a regular basis and never sustained any injuries.
I hope your little pussy cat is OK ❤

Ah hahaha!
They prob know better than us - I mean we put humans into a coma to recover if they have a shocking injury ?

Had a 4 week old foster kitten who decided he was SuperCar - and threw himself out of our first floor kitchen window onto solid concrete below. Not only did he kick our downstairs neighbours rabbit out of its hutch so that he could barricade himself inside it... he went on to live for another 23 years.

Your kitten may well be feeling a little sore and very embarrassed. Just keep an eye on them, but chances are they've learned that they're not actually SuperCat and will stioll be around in 20 years tine (I certainly hope so!)
