Such a shock. Literally haven’t opened an upstairs window since we got him but I shook a rug out of it this morning and forgot to close it .

He fell onto a heating unit thing below with massive crash

Rushed to vet, who examined and did obs and said he seemed ok to come home . He had a tiny bit of tuna when he got in with painkiller in but has since been asleep under dd’s bed

I’ve beem checking him
Obv and he kind of purrs and rolled over a bit when I stroke him
But otherwise v subdued

I’ll take him back tomorrow but is that soon enough? Is it normal he’s
Just wanting to tuck himself away ?

Thanks (

Painkiller makes them sleepy

Fat cat fell from the upstairs window I freaked out ran down the stairs sobbing he sat there waiting for me to pick him up and take him in it was midnight I was going to take him to the vets in the morning but he was literally fine! Absolutely nothing wrong

My neighbours cat leapt from an upstairs window being chased by the resident cat she landed and ran away everyone thought she was injured holed up somewhere the next day she showed up on my doorstep a bit dirty definitely hungry but fine

Our kitten fell out the window once too. DS's window was open on the child lock, and I didn't know the kitten had wandered in until the DC called me in a panic as she was on the outside window sill! She couldn't make her way backwards and fell before I could grab her. She was still tiny, wasn't even allowed out yet so I ran downstairs as I was worried she would be scared and run away injured. Aaaaanyway, she was fine luckily and now she's 4 she's obsessed with going out my bedroom windows or sitting on the outside window sill! I hope your little kitten is ok.

I hope your kitten feels better in the morning. That must have been such a shock.

We have 2 kittens (3 months old) and live in a 2nd floor flat. Should we not open any windows in the summer? It gets like a sauna so we'd have no choice, but I honestly assumed cats were quite smart and wouldn't jump from such a height. I'm concerned now, after reading this thread, that I've got it completely wrong!

You need to catproof your upstairs windows (as do lots of others on this thread). The cat rescue I volunteered with recommended Flat Cat screens for adopters if your windows don't have a locking ventilation setting. Any gaps over 2 inches is too big.

I hope your kitten will be feeling much better after some rest, OP.

I literally didn’t open any windows all summer upstairs as I thought he was quite daft

I def won’t again ever! 🥲

They would definitely jump given the chance.

You need to get screens from a company like "cat in a flat" and get them fitted ASAP.

Oh christ, our flat is in the roof and it gets incredibly hot, we swing every window open from March until September usually. A friend's cat used to sunbathe on their roof with no issues so I didnt think they would jump. I'll look into some solutions, cheers everyone.

I had a small kitten fall from a window years ago. We’d not had him long & he “disappeared”, we searched each room then DH noticed a window open slightly & he ran downstairs & outside. Kitten found 😲
Took him to the vet & luckily a bush had broken his fall. His only injury was that he damaged the roof of his mouth which meant he squeaked when he purred 😂 He was an awesome cat!!!
My current cat almost went out of our bedroom window but I managed to “grab & fling” in one movement & she landed on the bed!! We covered the widow with insect netting to provide a barrier & prevent her exiting but enabling us to have the window open.
Hope your kitten is ok x

My cat fell out of a second floor window many years ago. It was very frightening -she slid down the glass, it was a window that tilted, and then the horrible thud.
Thank goodness the people in the basement were home so I could go into the garden to look for her. I thought she would be dead , amazingly she had damage to her face, but nothing major. The vet gave her painkillers and cleaned her face, she was bleeding and had abrasions, and she’d broken a tooth but very luckily her jaw was not broken.
She recovered quickly but she was very shaken up for a few days.
I hope your kitten is feeling better soon.

You can buy flat at window screens. Dh was very sceptical about them but they work really well.

I wouldn’t trust them with a Bengal cat but moggies are ok. Or you can get clip in screens for the windows too.

They stop moths and flies getting in too which is a bonus.

Aww poor baby must have been a great shock for him

Beamur · 15/01/2022 11:37

That's good news OP. Sounds like he's feeling a bit better.

RedRosie · 15/01/2022 11:46

Very stressful. I'm so glad he seems well. Just keep an eye.

My friend's 11 week old kitten recently fell backwards into a scalding hot bath (they won't leave the door open, even a crack, ever again!). They dunked him into a sink of cool water and went straight to the vets but it still had burns and was in for a couple of days. Fully recovered now.

They are so fast. 🐱

Glad to hear this! Fingers crossed for a speedy and full recovery, and a slightly wiser kitten!
