I’m in tears . Our lovely, nutty cat has suddenly gone downhill, she’s 14 ,she keeps asking for food even though there’s food in her bowl, she has stopped cleaning herself, her pupils are very dilated and tonight she can’t seem to jump onto the sofa or get down the stairs, she has also lost weight and (this evening) I’ve noticed blood in her poo .
I’m taking her to the emergency vet tomorrow, I can’t bear to think of her suffering.

My dd made the final decision and was with her , she’s distraught , says she feels terrible and questioning herself 😢

So sorry ThanksThanksThanksThanks

She did the right thing, pain free and with dignity.

So sorry for your loss Flowers

If it helps, I think most of us who have ever been in this position question ourselves, and if there was anything further we could have or should have done, or more money we should have spent, or what we could have done differently.

All you can do is reassure her that she did the right thing. The vet wouldn’t have put a healthy cat down. She clearly was at the end of her good life and you did the kindest thing to stop her suffering at the right time.

It’s such an awful decision to make.

Months on it’s still with me and I too question myself. Which is silly as I know in my heart it was time.

I don’t do it as much though now. So it gets better with time.

I got my dcat cremated and her ashes are next to my bed. It brings me comfort. Although it may be a bit weird! I think I’d put in a drawer if anyone was in my bedroom as it’s none of their beeswax.

I can’t remember the cost but it was around £70 I think. I shopped around and found a lovely place I was comfortable with.

So sorry for your loss.

SilverHairedCat · 20/12/2021 14:21

My huge sympathies - and you've all done the right thing for your puss. Much love to you both.

Vapeyvapevape · 20/12/2021 14:51

Thank you for your kind words.
We are having her cremated and will get her ashes back to keep.

So sorry for your loss 💐

I feel your pain as we were where you are now about 6 weeks ago. I was heart broken when we lost our 15 year old cat. Whilst it doesn't feel like it, it will get better. Time does heal 💞

Vapeyvapevape · 20/12/2021 18:07

Thank you and sorry you lost your pet too xx

So so sorry for your loss. I had to do this recently with two very DCs, brother and sister, last Boxing Day (early hours of the morning) and a few weeks ago for girl cat. It's heartbreaking. DD and I cried buckets and I still look for them to come on my bed. Sending love. Would you like to post a picture of your DCat? ❤️❤️‍🩹

Our lovely puss ❤️😢

She drove us mad some days , typical contrary cat ! Yowled to go out and when I’d get up to open the door, she’d look at me ( and I’m sure she was smirking) and walk away. Declare her absolute love for a certain food and when I stocked up on it decide she didn’t like it after all .

I’ll miss her booby trapping me on the stairs and her waking me up by nipping me,
I will miss her dreadfully.

So sorry @Vapeyvapevape. What a lovely kitty. But you absolutely did the right and kindest thing for her.

We lost our gorgeous girl last year in a rta and the cat-shaped hole in our hearts and home was just enormous. Eventually we filled it with 2 kittens that we rescued and although for a while they were cute but not as special as the girl we lost, now we love them just as much.

Vapeyvapevape · 20/12/2021 18:59

Flowers to everyone.

I’m going to have to learn how to walk normally , I usually shuffle because she’s always under my feet.

You'll never bore us. She looks like a fabulous beast. I'm sure you have many happy memories of her. You made the best decision you could for her too. Flowers

RandomMess · 20/12/2021 20:39

She is so lovely.

We lost our boy suddenly 10 months ago (killed by a dog) we are all still grieving and we still have tears. He was my youngest's night nanny since she was 4 and he had a daily rota where everyone got a cuddle.

DH has had so many cats in his life but this one was that extra special Mr Chill, the only whose ashes we have 😭

His sister and new boy and the dog are lovely but he has left such a massive void in all our lives.

It does get less horrifically painful but it does take such a long time

Thanks

Oh I'm so so sorry for your loss. I lost my beautiful puss in October. His ashes are next to me right now. The pain is indescribable and I'm heartbroken for you 💔

Clarich007 · 21/12/2021 16:17

Bless her, you did the kindest thing for her, and well done your DD for having the courage to make tbe decision, it's never easy. Your cat is gorgeous💐💐

wineandchocolateforthewin · 21/12/2021 16:24

So sorry OP, mine passed away at home recently, she didn't appear in pain or discomfort, just tired, so i held off on the vet as she hated going, thankfully she slipped away peacefully and comfortably all wrapped up nice and cosy. It's so hard :-(
Look after yourself Flowers

Igmum · 21/12/2021 18:18

She's gorgeous- what a lovely puss

Vapeyvapevape · 21/12/2021 18:27

I’ve been very tearful today, thank you all for your kind words, I have told dd what you have said , she did ask for more reassurance today but seems to be coming to terms with her decision xx
