On holiday, found a tiny kitten.

We are in Croatia on holiday.
Went out today and came back to the house about 4.15pm to find a kitten in a bush. We haven't gone too close and we've been waiting for the mother to come back.
It looks about 2 weeks old and is meowing at regular intervals.
Does anyone know how long mother cats leave kittens? It's been 2 hours and it's getting dark.

Oh how sweet and well done for rescuing it! Loving the photos!

Dd is a whole bag of emotions today and she's had hardly any sleep. She would love to take her home with us, but she's too little and we already have cats.

Maybe one more picture though, because she's so sweet.

Oh OP are you sure you can’t find her a foster home then have her sent to you? It seems like such a special little story between the kitten and your DD! Easy for me to say tho!

Cissyandflora · 18/10/2021 19:36

I wish I could take her! Well done for helping.

LetsDoTheTango · 18/10/2021 19:38

Ahh what a lovely happy ending! Thank you for caring and ensuring she will be looked after 💕

Frazzled2207 · 18/10/2021 19:41

Aw well done for doing the very best you could for her. She’s very lucky.

LadyLindaT · 18/10/2021 19:43

I wish there were more people in the world like you.

Suzi888 · 18/10/2021 19:48

What a truly lovely thing to do. Lucky kitten.

What a cute kitten, and what wonderful people your family are OP for giving her the best start in life Flowers

What a lovely story and such a cute kitten 💕

Awww, this brings back memories! I also once had a kitten under two weeks old. Feeding and cleaning and caring for such a tiny little darling is hard work, but if it's done round the clock (as the rescue will do) then they often do survive. I was also scared about my kitten and set an alarm clock for every three hours so I could feed him and see to his toileting, so I was shattered and anxious for weeks! Weaning and litter training was a challenge with no mummy cat to show an example. But, he cuddled to me every night and he has done for over 16 years now. I will be heartbroken when his time comes.

Being in a different country, the very best you could have done for her is what you did. I hope she has a beautiful life ahead of her!

AppleButter · 18/10/2021 20:23

@FuckingFabulous this is such an eternally beautiful story. So wonderful. Just heart-enrichingly beautiful ❤️

Sunshine2468 · 18/10/2021 20:33

@FuckingFabulous That's so lovely. We are exhausted after one night and all of us, you must've put in so much. But they're worth it though, all of them.

We have two cats at home, siblings. Boy cat is allergic to so many things, every time he went out, he'd get sick. Not just a little sick, life threatening. So he only goes out on his lead now.
We have such a tiny flat, I don't think we could take another, there's no space for anymore litter trays for a start. We'll keep in touch with the sanctuary though and hopefully hear how Kitty gets on.
Dd is talking about coming over to volunteer at the sanctuary for the summer when she leaves school.

There is definitely hope for her to survive.

My Betsy Boo was found at a week old under a bush with no mum and siblings. She was hand reared and I adopted her at 10 weeks.

I mean, she's a proper nutcase but we totally love her 🥰 and she is so big and strong now.

I don’t think I’d be able to leave her there! I’m far too much of a softie

Mamadothehump · 18/10/2021 23:08

What a wonderful family you are. Your children will remember this forever and continue being the lovely, kind people you are bringing them up to be, I'm sure Thanks

Sunshine2468 · 19/10/2021 07:54

@cricketmum84 Thank you for sharing, it gives me hope. I think she'll be fine with the rescue, they hand fed 14 kittens in spring who all went to loving homes.

@AngelDelightUk It's breaking my heart and Dd was in bits last night but I can't fit anymore cats at home and the rescue here will find her some good humans.

Your dd can volunteer at cat rescues here when she’s older. The kitten will get a home of its own when it’s old enough.

Roselilly36 · 19/10/2021 08:10

Well that’s a holiday you won’t ever forget OP! You & your DD did a great job.
