Do Your Moggies Use Cat Beds?

I'm just about to adopt two elderly cats.
I've had cats before - in fact, they died very recently.

The cats who died always slept on the sofa and on my bed - we never had actual cat beds for them.
I was wondering if the new cats would want little beds - what do people think?
Does your moggie have her/his own bed, or are they a waste of money?

I remember, years ago, when my daughter got a kitten, she bought a bed for him - and, being a cat, he never slept in it.

Mine do. They have one each on the landing. They sometimes sleep in other places as well though.

Bargebill19 · 20/08/2021 02:31

Yes. Also the bed, clean laundry, a pile of
Blankets, a cat chair and a woodpile. Basically anywhere they can crowbar their fat, squishy arses. One was asleep in the litter tray last week.

That made me laugh like mad.

I sometimes imagine cats leafing through supply brochures, imagining what they'd buy if they had any money.

The reality is that they generally take over whatever space they like the look of, regardless of whether anyone has paid money for it.

What made it for me was that three of them were lined up waiting to use that particular tray, whilst another one walked past and used another tray set up in another room. He gave me the ‘don’t tell them where I’m going!” look!! My old girl resolutely stayed fast asleep.
I have five cats….

Any vacant card board box or basket. If it becomes a favoured place we put some sort of bedding in it, e.g an old towel or baby blanket. She also loves the pushchair

Snowdrop30 · 20/08/2021 06:38

Nope. Mine ignored any bed I ever bought. She likes sleeping on a plastic storage box padded with a fleece blanket.

Tocktock · 20/08/2021 06:41

My elderly arthritic cat is like a little heat seeking missile and loves her heated bed. He's in it all day and sleeps on my bed at night.

Tocktock · 20/08/2021 06:41

She's*

NutellaEllaElla · 20/08/2021 06:44

My two ignore the beautiful, soft and fluffy beds I bought them.

TreaslakeandBack · 20/08/2021 06:52

Yes and they use them. They have a pod type bed that one of them likes.
They spend most of the day in a large fleece bed in front of the window. They curl up together in there.

cricketmum84 · 20/08/2021 06:54

I have one who loves her bed and one who prefers an empty box 😂

Our two go through spells of using them but then will favour somewhere else for months on end and abandon them. Other favoured spots include the top of the sofa back, the airing cupboard if left ajar, the spare bed, our bed, the spot on the landing where hot water pipes run under the floorboards.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 20/08/2021 07:02

Yes. If by cat bed you mean my bed, empty box, sofa, rug, desk chair, curtains, or clean laundry. If it has a cat asleep in it, it’s a cat bed.

Theunamedcat · 20/08/2021 07:05

Yes I have an igloo type house they squished and sleep on top of they have another fluffy one they will sleep in the thick pad on the window sill and one attached to the top of the scratching post they also sleep on the bed and in doorways

Welldarn · 20/08/2021 07:10

Mine love their bed. Grin

Mine didn't like those beds that are like a cave. They do love a large dog bed with blanket positioned in the sun by the garden door. One cat loves the top of the cat tree

SimonJT · 20/08/2021 07:14

Yes, she has a lovely superking tempur cat bed with a linen cover, she always sleeps it it without fail. She has two beds really, the second is the size and shape of a three seater sofa, if anyone dare use her bed when she is she either rubs against them or attacks them, she likes keeping people on their toes.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 20/08/2021 07:17

Only one of my 8 cats ever used a cat bed and she would only sleep on it if it was next to me on the sofa.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 20/08/2021 07:20

Used to use it when the kids were little too hide from them as they knew to leave him alone if he was in there but not used it now for years. Why use a cat bed when there are so many nap location options?

Animum2 · 20/08/2021 07:29

Gizmo has two beds and his own armchair, he alternates between them, though sometimes during the day he likes to sleep in his cat carrier

Animum2 · 20/08/2021 07:31

Gizmo in his bed and being weird!

No, sleeps wherever but I'm going to get her one, we've acquired her recently, belongs to dp's dd

FatAnkles · 20/08/2021 07:41

No, she refuses. She likes cardboard boxes (Thanks Bea, after I spent all that money!) but usually she just sleeps on her blanket on the sofa.

Oldraver · 20/08/2021 09:44

Well I ended up giving away Colins cute owl den that Grumpy said was scary. I never got the big marshmallow bed in use and the previous bed I had to get Col to use by stealth but he loved it in the end

Current kittens have totally ignored the proper beds despite them having the blankies from their first home in them, just sniffed and ignored

They did sleep in the cat dens the first few days but now sleep in the cat tower, a cushion in the settee or a blankie on a BBQ box in the living room. Friend is supposed to be collecting the BBQ next weeks so may have to ask if we can keep the box

Upstairs the sleep on the bed or underneath I have an old drawer that's now got a sleeping bag in it....... right next to an actual cat bed
